  1. Welcome usagi :) Does that name mean you like bunny characters like Reisen? Also, which fumo will you be getting?
  2. Thanks! This place has been great so far! Yumetou, you've been especially fun to talk to :) Always coming up with interesting topics or stories Also yep, Orange is a bit random. You can blame that on me only playing touhou 4, and never getting much further than her XD Also also, thanks for complimenting my profile picture! Although I just picked a random picture and forgot to change it later... Might change it to a more cheerful character one day... Oh boy, I say too much when I'm tired I apologize to whoever is reading this ^^'
  3. Hi, here's the short answer: Touhou is a big video game series, mainly shoot-em-up bullet hells. They are made by one guy named Zun. But that's unimportant lol. Here are main points you wanna know: -VERY GOOD SOUNDTRACK! Zun has made hundreds of songs, and they are all very good. In fact, the whole point of making games was to spread his music! -A HUGE variety of characters! They're all cute girls with special abilities, and I think there's over 200 unique characters -EXTREMELY TALENTED COMMUNITY! Literally countless fanworks of touhou exist. Hundreds of remixes of just one theme, it blows your mind! All of these points combine to let touhou spread everywhere online, and it seems like it got to you as well :) So, join in on the fun and enjoy what the community has to offer! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you're a bit lost, here are some ways to get started: -You could always download the original games here, but they are a bit difficult (if you want to play a game, try touhou 6). -You could easily search up "touhou [genre you like]" and learn more about the songs that you liked (I did this for a while). -You could watch touhou videos, whether that be memes or character introductions or whatever. -You could ask questions about touhou here or some other forum. ...Or all of those at once! PS: To the proffessional touhou fans out there, please correct me or expand points that I missed
  4. Sorry to pop in unannounced... over 20 posts and I had completely forgotten about introductions! As you can see my username, I go by Kymoh. How is it pronounced? Dunno. I've had this account for several months now, but it's only been recently that I've started to become more active. Hopefully I don't lose interest :) Anyways, a few basic points about me: -Discovered touhou 1-2 years ago. Still a casual fan. I know the most popular characters (like those in Bad Apple MV) but not much else. -Bad at video games in general. I've played Touhou 4, 6, 12.3, but haven't beat any of them at 1CC easy ugh -Adding to that, I like video games involving building fighting vehicles (Space Engineers, Terratech, Sprocket, Robocraft) -Favorite character: ?? I like Orange from Touhou 4, but she's not well-known so I often say Reimu. -Favorite color: Orange lol -Hobbies: Making games, dancing, playing games Now you know a bit about me :) Feel free to ask any questions!
  5. Interesting! I don't know many people that love a character opposite of themselves. Now I wonder, do you think you could get along with Suika if she were real, or is it more of a admiring point of view? (Kind of just thinking to myself here, you don't have to answer). I sometimes hear how it's beneficial to have opposite partnerships in which each person perfectly compensates the others' shortcomings. In addition, do you ever catch yourself imitating her a little bit? We all know those people that get their entire personality off of their favorite characters XD. But I'm curious if that effect ever applies to an "opposite" like you. Also, about Yuuka. I'm in the same state as you in terms of touhou knowledge, but I've just read through some of her (PC-98) lines and got somewhat of an understanding of her personality. She seems like a cruel and scary person, and always talks with a touch of humour. Aside from her infamous "genocide is just another game" quote, she has several random funny lines such as when talking to Alice in Mystic Square: "It's been a long time indeed" "By the way, who were you again?" Combined with her overwhelming strength, in my opinion has her painted more as a "bored god" character. Basically a powerful being that chills out alone, occasionally getting entertainment out of fighting others. This conclusion may also explain behavior that seems contradictory. What do you think? Does this sound fitting to you? (If you want to look at the quotes: https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Highly_Responsive_to_Quotes) P.S. Your word choice/sentence structure made me laugh a bit :) "...exhibiting a variety of behaviors whose origins are all seemingly contradictory to each other" Makes you sound like Sherlock Holmes haha
  6. Hi, welcome! I'm also relatively new (?) but I can say this is definitely a great place. Everybody is nice and supportive, not to mention super creative. Have fun :) By the way, who's your favorite character? When you say you're a lurker I imagine Yukari haha
  7. This is actually a 2 in 1 so I didn't know where to post it haha I tried making a remix of Kanako's theme, and I also tried drawing her. (I made her extra scary) I have little experience in either music or art, so excuse me if it's low quality. !WARNING! Jumpstyle music is not for everyone! https://youtu.be/3fVqx96N0Os
  8. ohhh this is a good one :) If you ever played hyakunin isshu then you know this is one of the most memorable cards I think I missed your joke though, I don't play deltarune :/
  9. I usually just go with khlobbia, my initials+last name. But I guess one day it got boring, so I sat down thinking to myself for a few minutes. Kymoh Lemu seemed like a good alias, even with matching initials. But my friends and family would get weirded out, so I only use it for anonymous places like here. (oh well) omg I just realized how repetitive my sentence structure is lol
  10. Hi, just a quick reply. One day I came across the link to this playlist. It's all touhou video essays, so you guys might enjoy it! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFCI334dAUpTAJkJTQFFm9v5bZOz7m35f
  11. Excuse me for the shorter reply, I know nothing about this game: Combat Mage. Honestly, you seem to answer your own question there. Danmaku, explosives, and Four of a Kind?! The answer should be obvious!
  12. Hi, I had no idea what this post was until I found the actual story. It was so great that I ended up reading the entire thing :D I really really love how vivid and specific your imagery is. I was able picture almost every scene in my head :) You even make me want to write my own story, not like that will ever happen... By the way, I do have some criticisms: Some of your sentences starting with the word "Before" seemed to be a continuation of the previous sentence, and (I think) that's gramatically incorrect. For example, "The only warning Kimiko had was the low sound of ice forming, beneath her threats. Before a block of ice slammed into her..." Another criticism: The overall story, in my opinion, is a little inconsistent. Oscar would flee one situation out of total fear, but then approach a similar situation completely casually. (running from Rumia & talking to Agappa) Some of the characters randomly "come and go." Why does Wriggle/Mystia have a conversation once, then disappear from the story? Does Oscar still think this is a dream or has he accepted this as reality? Re-clarifying that might help explain his inconsistent actions. Please don't get me wrong here, I may have written lots of complaints but I still think your work is super great! In fact, I probably can't blame you for those problems mentioned- I'm sure making this a "Choose Your Own Adventure" makes it VERY hard to stay consistent, especially when you already have your own plot ideas in mind. Anyways, you made my day and I bet many others also enjoyed your story so far. I'm no writer, but I can tell this took a ton of time and effort. Keep it up!
  13. Thriller isn't specifically horror so I should've specified there. But I will still check out House of Leaves! Lolita on the other hand... I will make sure to stay away Thanks, I will read through it right now :)
  14. Just writing this because I finished a really good book right now :) What are your favorite (touhou or non-touhou) books? I might give them a read :P I especially love thriller and science fiction, but list whatever is good! Here are some of my personal recommendations: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir- By the same author of The Martian. It is about a man being sent to space alone to save the human race. The whole book is packed with many interesting scientific explanations and problems, plus the ending is very wholesome. However, some of the astronomy/physics might be confusing. Rising Sun by Michael Crichton- My favorite author! This book is about a murder case that took place during a grand opening ceremony for a Japanese company. The detective weaves through different clues and connections unlike other detective stories, and it's hard to explain but really cool. anyone else got great books to recommend?
  15. Very cool topic! I read through most of the other replies, and I think you all have amazing ideas :) I especially love that idea, ReisenFanatic :D Feels like so many games these days are about violence so that sounds cool. Me personally, I always wanted to make a big open world game (map is like 2 km wide) in which there is no real objective except survival. You get to start at a human village, and try to make friends or enemies or whatever. I am thinking about a HUGE emphasis on npcs that adapt to the environment. For example if you help out certain people, their enemies start to hate you. Or if crop yields are getting low, villagers start blaming each other. You can even spread rumors that people may or may not believe! It's probably nearly impossible to make such a complicated system, but I like to imagine :) Anyways, the character and settings. Since I only play touhou 4, the main character is mountain youkai Orange. She might pass as a human to most, but needs to be a bit careful near people like Reimu. Overall nobody is really hostile at the start, but environmental factors (famines, rain, earthquakes), player interactions, and npc actions slowly shape relationships. It all depends how you react. You could be a helpful person that is friends with everybody. You could be a secret murderer that the police keep struggling to catch. It's your game, your world, your life! Writing this during class so I might be making no sense right now hehe. Thanks again Yumetou for the interesting question :P
  16. You've... scrambled my brain. I don't know what to say. At first I just want to get clarification on your main points, because honestly, your post is huge. Is this interpretation correct? -Problem1: Bigger websites (discord, facebook, etc.) get more popular -> fans leave main touhou websites -> fans are in smaller divided circles (ex: discord servers) -> more divide/drama -Problem2: Touhou getting enfranchised -> lower effort games -> more negativity towards the series -Outcome: Combining outcomes of problems 1 & 2 -> harder for newcomers to get in -> less fans -> entire fanbase begins to degrade (fanworks and events) -Solution: Everybody going back to centralized touhou websites OR creating a huge website list containing all fan circles I'm really not too sure if I understood everything. Please let me know if I misunderstood anything.
  17. I have to say, they look a bit like lego or minecraft characters because of blocky limbs and head
  18. What do you think is the best lead instrument used in touhou songs, and also give examples of it being used! Actually I'm not sure if you can respond to a poll For me I would probably go with piano, because most of my favorite themes use it (beloved tomboyish girl, alice in wonderland, etc.). But damn Raiko's theme makes me want to choose drums
  19. You guys made good choices, I also like casket of star, mystical oriental love consultation, and invisible full moon. But my top is "The Ground's Color is Yellow" in hisoutensoku. The intense trumpets that come in at 1:00 are so fitting for a fighting game.
  20. C for Cirno of course!
  21. Hey, tf2 is close enough to touhou right?
  22. I don't know either... maybe you could do with humming a touhou song in text, that would be funny :D
  23. I've never heard of a genre called shoegaze, I'm guessing the video you sent is that? Sounds a bit like rock... As for me, I'm more into electronic music with high tempo and heavy kick. Genres such as hardcore, gabber, hardbass, hands up, hardstyle. I like them because they make me want to get up and dance, and sound fun. My favorite album would probably be "EXCEPTIONAL-02" by dat file records, or "Escarlue Heavenz Energy" by otomekan. But honestly, it's much better in my opinion to listen to individual songs made by certain people. Because some people just have a specific style that only they can create. So for composers I really love moro (hardcore/gabber), LENK64 (hardbass), rider (hardstyle), DJ Nanasaki (scouse house). Here are a few of the songs:
  24. As I briefly mentioned earlier, if I were a bashou no sei, I would be able to live among banana trees, whether that be in orchards, gardens, forests, etc. So I would have a decent amount of area to explore, which is nice. I also expect that if I'm living in gardens and such, human villages would be close by, meaning I get even more opportunities to fool around or talk to some humans (in yokai.com, it is said that bashou no sei generally don't harm humans, which sounds like it fits me perfectly). I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to groups in Gensokyo, so I can't say much about that. Like I said in my first post, I would probably just hang out with the weak youkai such as Nightbug and Kogasa, and explore random places in the forest :) As for my danmaku, I don't like to be mean so I would shoot a ton of bullets that are aimed a little bit away from the protaginist XD. It would look really crazy on the first time, but after a minute they realize they can simply stand still for most of it. Also, because bashou no sei can shapeshift, I think it would be really funny if I turn into my opponent and pretend to copy their movements and attacks. Once things start getting sketchy, I would run away and hide until they go away, ending the fight. Definitely I'm going to be a stage 1 boss or midboss because I wouldn't have the nerve to seriously hurt people. Along with that, my habitat would be close to the village, making me run into the protagonist early on. As I was writing all this, I was reminded of one of my favorite characters, Orange from Touhou 4 LLS. Orange is a pretty forgotten character that shares some similarities with my bashou no sei profile. A weak, stage 1 boss youkai that was just minding her own business. Here is some of her dialogue in-game: Reimu: "I was looking for youkai." Orange: "What for?" Reimu: "Obliteration :)" Orange: "Oh, I see. Well then, good luck! If you'll just excuse me, I'll be on my way now." Reimu: "I meant you, of course!" Orange: "Wow, you're pretty sharp." ... Reimu: "Prepare yourself!!" Orange: "Ahaha, you shouldn't underestimate me just because I'm the first stage boss!" Orange: "I'll bang, shoot, and pop your head off!!" So I guess I can also be good friends with Orange. I would probably have similar dialogue if I was in her situation.
  25. Thanks Yumetou! It was really fun reading through all the different types of youkai, and just as interesting to see what other people chose! You should post more questions like this, especially those related to Touhou or youkai.
