awww thanks Mortar-o'-MC! (my ally!) I know it's just a simple gif, but the fact that someone here cared enough about me, to take the time for a welcome-back message... it brings a big smile to my face. :) So really, thanks a ton, it means more than you think! Woah, you put in loads of thought into this choice. I agree that some of these options seem unhelpful to Oscar, especially the tavern or the library. I actually hadn't considered Reisen or Tewi would be at the medicine stall, looks like I gotta brush up on my character knowledge. But it's a great point you brought up, Reisen being able to communicate in some form with Houdini. If Yumetou was planning Houdini's little adventure to lead into a "rescue operation" for Oscar, I think Reisen is best fit to be the savior of the day. ...And then your point about Nazrin immediately challenges that. I still think Reisen's abilities would be more practical. But admittedly, introducing Nazrin -a leader of mice that hunts for treasure- does sound more interesting than a powerful, efficient killer who doesn't get along with humans. So now you've got me on the fence, Master Gri! Shall I stand with my ally and choose the obvious route, or turn to your side and chase the fun? Now let's think about this my ally. I can see how the medicine stall choice is the most optimal. No question about it. But consider this, is our goal to work through this story as efficient as possible? Hmmmm... Making the best moves, taking the least risk, and ensuring Ozzy "wins" this story? Or shall we have some fun and be a bit more... unpredictable :) Give it some thought, Mortar-o'-MC! Hi, happy (late) new years to you too! There's no need to apologize about taking a break from this forum. We all have our own lives, and nobody's forced to post here all the time except Yumetou. Me and Mota also went silent for quite a while too. Last but not least, Mr.Yummy Toes :). I totally expected the new chapter to be some boring conversation in a dark room without much action, but you've done it again. Seems like you always find a way to keep the plot moving on its feet- quite literally. Makes me curious if you ever read Michael Crichton or Dan Brown's thriller novels, their books are real page-turners filled with constant fast-paced action. Like your story!

Hello! Been a while! The past month or two (I've lost track how long) had been quite hectic. Tragedy after tragedy had befallen me. But I'm back, and I've caught up with the latest chapter :D I guess that makes two of us irresponsible with our time... Anyway I skimmed through you guys' commentary posts and spotted something about Wriggle being a tsundere? I was under the impression that Wriggle was saying all those mean things due to a curse, one that Agappa could see physically, skewing her personality and causing her to turn on her friends. Even worse, had the curse led Wriggle to lie about the exit in the cellar? Did she lead Oscar into a trap? Oh no! Speaking of which, I might be too late for my choice to matter but I voted for Oscar to share his thoughts (breaking the tie). It was a 2-2 vote so I know choosing my own option would be useless, and of the two options, talking to Houdini seems like the better one. And the other option is to... seriously?! Stand around and pass time with some reading?! What in the world is that supposed to achieve? ...but knowing Yumetou, I'm sure even if that option is picked, there will be a fun twist that I don't forsee. Keep up the good work as always Yumetou and hopefully I won't go missing for over a month again

Looks so good! It's so well done that it almost feels like it was made digitally, I really love every part of it

Anyone else struggle finishing unfinished work?
kymoh replied to Idioms21's topic in All You Can Ask Buffet
I might have many hobbies but I'm sort of mediocre at all of them :/ If only my skills run as deep as they are wide... Also, it's cool your love for drawing first came from an interest in game design. I've heard of many illustrators and music producers that initially wanted to make things for video games, but instead just became really good artists normally! Oh yeah, I definitely get what you mean. I guess in my previous reply I was thinking about games and music- completely forgot that drawings can't be so easily modified and preserved. Also, the thing about forcing yourself to commit to a project is it can quickly lead to burnout. Sometimes you really might be leading yourself to a dead end, so be careful. But one healthy method to stay motivated is doing it for a person/purpose/deadline. I've made drawings for my friend's birthday, for my song cover, and for cirno day. It works really well for me because I plan several days ahead, and make sure everything looks good before sharing my work publicly. Thanks for the advice! Using drawn references is smart. And I suppose I should start sketching with a lighter pencil because I've always felt like my sketching gets in the way. I love making hard techno, hardstyle, and other similar styles of electronic music. Just anything I can dance to (which is yet another hobby of mine). All touhou remixes, of course! I don't even know music theory, I just use midi files . I post my works on youtube, although they're uploaded alongside some of my other cringy videos so I won't show it here, sorry :P -
~ Thanks to everyone that participated today, it was fun! ~ Hello everyone, to those reading this in the future, on November 10 we had a "Moriya Meetup" where several of us got together on the forum chatbox and talked about some things, and we did a roleplay. Being the first time any of us did RPing, it was a bit very messy but I'm sure we all still enjoyed it! Anyways, I'd like to consolidate all that happened, here in this thread for everyone else to read. I don't plan on continuing the story by myself, but feel free to jump in and I just might change my mind :). Finally, please note that most of this has been re-ordered and re-worded to make more sense. I also split the story into 4 smaller chunks, as I don't expect any of you to read through 2 hours of RPing in one sitting. Enjoy! Cast: Kymoh- narration, the fairies Pinky Cat- Marisa スカーレット大鎌- Sakuya Idioms21- Aunn ReisenFanatic17- Reisen (although I won't include him in the story because he was inactive) Part 1/4 The scene opens in the middle of a forest... the Forest of Magic! It's the middle of the day, but the sunlight is almost entirely obscured by tall trees stretching out in an endless expanse in all directions. A thin, lone dirt path weaves through the trees. Northward would lead to the Human Village, and southward would lead to the Misty Lake. On any other day, this spot in the Magic Forest would be nothing special. But today is anything but a normal day. Suddenly, a huge, bright white light materializes and shoots up from this location, like a laser beam. The trees seem completely unscathed as if nothing happened, but the light was seen by anyone from miles away. What might have caused it? Is it something dangerous? Is it a valuable treasure? Several witnesses nearby are intrigued and converge onto the scene. The first to arrive is Marisa Kirisame. "Goodness, what was THAT?" she thinks aloud, staring upon where the center of the light was. In these few moments of pondering, she never would have foreseen what a mess she is about to be dragged into... Meanwhile, several others also spotted the light from afar. "Did that magician miss a target, or did a bird drop her a present? No, this one seems different. I should check up on it just in case.", an intrugued Aunn wonders. Sakuya Izayoi, having been cleaning the windows of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, also sees the bright light. "Hmm...something happens over there and it comes from Forest of Magic... maybe Patche knows something about this kind of energy." She contemplates going to Patchouli to ask about it, but her curiosity overtakes her as she leaves her window-cleaning duties and makes her way to the Forest of Magic. Soon enough, Aunn arrives and spots Marisa, who is still peering up and down where the light was. With Marisa being completely oblivious to her surroundings, Aunn sneaks up behind Marisa, getting closer than anyone has any business to be. "Did you do that?" she asks right into Marisa's ear. "Wah! Aunn, what are you doing here? The forest is quite far from any shrine," Marisa exclaims, quickly recovering from the little surprise. "Anyway, I didn't do a thing about this! And a light coming from the forest ain't a common sight. It might be some magical object going off the wire with the forest's energy." Aunn acknowledges the answer, and peers beside Marisa, towards where the light came from. Using her ability to notice the presence of evil, she senses... "Well I don't sense anything strange from that direction..." "Really? Can you sense any other strange sensations comin' off of you?" Aunn puts both her arms closer to her nose and sniffs them. "Nope." She gets closer again to Marisa to sniff her. "Nah." Aunn points her nose back at the direction of the light. "Still nothing. That's it. I'm going home, have a good one Marisa!" She turns around to leave, waving goodbye. But just as she takes her first step back, an alert Sakuya walks into the scene, maintaining a defensive position. "I feel like something is close here. Something dangerous," she warns the two. Aunn doesn't believe it. "Hmm, Sakuya I think you should calm down a little, yeah? It's not like someone would have a reason to spy on us." While Aunn might not have sensed anything strange, Sakuya's intuition was correct indeed. These three heroines are not alone. Part 2/4 As it turns out, the bright light had attracted several curious fairies and youkai as well. For the past few minutes, there had been three others hiding behind the bushes, observing the past interactions. Waiting for the right moment to reveal themselves. "It looks like they don't know what that light was either," whispers Daiyousei. An unconvinced ice fairy responds, "Yeah yeah! They're just faking being dumb in order to trick us! We should fight them!" "Be quiet! They'll hear us!" Wriggle Nightbug shushes Cirno. But it is too late. Sakuya instantly reacts to the nearby noise. She quickly throws a single knife towards the bushes... while Cirno was lucky enough the knife hit the tree above her head. "AAAAAAAAAHH!!" Cirno jumps out, screaming. "That almost killed me! I knew it was a trap!" Everybody else quickly turns toward her. "Ah! It's the loud fairy! What're you doing here?" Aunn asks. Sakuya approaches Cirno, unhappy and possibly disappointed that all her caution was for some lone fairy. "You know it's dangerous playing here, right?" Cirno wants none of it. She steps forward in fighting stance. Daiyousei and Wriggle reluctantly emerge from the shadows, trying to hold Cirno back. Daiyousei even attempts to diffuse the situation, replying, "ehhh... we were just... wandering aroun-" "I don't wanna hear it Sakuya! You'll pay for what you did!" Cirno cuts her off, balling her hands, starting to form an icicle. "Oh is it a boxing match? I wanna join!" Aunn challenges, as she hops forward with her hands ready to block and throw out punches. Just as Sakuya stops time and knocks Cirno out cold. "We have better things to do." Daiyousei and Wriggle stop and open their mouths in shock. Aunn drops her fists, starting to raise her voice in panic. But fortunately for Cirno, it turns out pretending to be knocked out "cold" is her specialty. She immediately gets up, smiling at her friends and facing Sakuya again. Aunn, hit with a double surprise, gets even more confused and loud and annoying. Marisa, not impressed, speaks over Aunn and asks accusingly, "Say Cirno, mind explaining what you're doing here at the forest?” Cirno snaps back. "Be quiet Aunn! The grown-ups are talking! Anywayyy Marisa, we just saw a big light and we knew it was you that summoned it!" Daiyousei tries to grab Cirno's shoulder and stop her, but Cirno pushes forward, now only a few paces away of Marisa, and prepared to fight. Wriggle, on the other hand, has accepted her involvement and quietly begins summoning her insect friends from behind. Just as Cirno looks like she'll charge towards Marisa, she points a finger at Aunn and raises her other fist in the air angrily. "You first for being so loud!" She charges up a ball of ice and throws it straight at Aunn, hitting her dead center in the chest. She gets the wind knocked out of her, and maybe she'll get a bruise later, but otherwise she recovers in a few seconds and yells back in anger. "Hey! I thought I should be quiet! Why am I suddenly getting in on the fight?!" "That's what you get for interrupting me earlier! And this is what you're about to get for helping Marisa summon that big bright light!" Part 3/4 As Cirno takes a few steps toward Aunn, Marisa grabs her attention. “Whoa there, Cirno. You sure you want to be making the first move there?" She pulls out her hakkero, which causes Cirno to immediately stop and widen her eyes. All she can do is stare at Marisa preparing her powerful Master Spark. Sensing Cirno's fear, Aunn taunts her, "Yeah! This is a losing fight for you fairy! Give up already!" Sakuya, on the other hand, is pissed by Marisa's reaction to a small child. "WOULD YOU TWO JUST SHUT UP ALREADY?! DID ALL OF YOU FORGET THE REASON WE CAME HERE!?" Marisa ignores her, as the hakkero starts glowing, ready to fire. She points it straight at Cirno's center mass, who is still frozen in pure terror. But right when it looks like Cirno is about to turn to ashes, Wriggle has got her back covered. Preparing for this moment, she controls a small swarm of fireflies and directs them into Marisa's face. Who immediately drops her hakkero and swats her face repeatedly. “Oh god! Get these bugs off me! I can’t see!” She stumbles back, too preoccupied to fight. Now Aunn steps into action. Ignoring Daiyousei and Sakuya's pleas for peace, she runs forward and tackles Wriggle, who was too focused on Marisa to notice her coming. The fireflies quickly dissipate, leaving Marisa free to aim her hakkero again. However, it's too late for her. Using the small window of time granted by Wriggle, Cirno manages to jump onto Aunn as well. Aunn, Cirno, and Wriggle now form a cluster of angry children throwing punches at each other. Marisa cannot risk firing her Master Spark, because she knows she'll hit Aunn. Meanwhile, Daiyousei and Sakuya notice each other spectating the mess, seeing both of them aren't in the mood to fight. Daiyousei walks over to Sakuya. "Awww this is awful isn't it!" Sakuya understands yelling at them won't do anything. "tch. I'm just wasting my time with these children. Milady's gonna kill me if I'm gone for too long." "You're leaving already? Come on, could you at least help solve this mess?" "To a mere child? Then no, I have better things to see and I've not come this far to watch these children fight." "But you can easily fix this! Can't you stop time?" "Will stopping time fix their brain? Listen, that light was the only reason all of us came here, and I'm not wasting my time for..." ...Daiyousei and Sakuya continue to argue, ignoring the chaos around them. While Aunn, Cirno, and Wriggle are busy tackling each other, Marisa puts away her hakkero and takes out her broom. She approaches the three, smiling. "Going to have to do this!" Marisa swings, broom connecting straight onto Cirno's face. "GWWAAAHHH!!" She screams as she gets knocked away from Aunn and Wriggle. She flies several feet high into the air, hitting a tree and landing disoriented. But thanks to her assistance, Wriggle was still able to gain the upper hand on Aunn, pushing her onto the ground and keeping a knee on her chest. Wriggle starts torturing the helpless komainu, forcing small bugs onto her clothes. But Wriggle had forgotten about Marisa. “Try this potion on for size!” Marisa calls out, throwing a small vial that appears to have a funky smell, with great accuracy. It's a direct hit! Wriggle immediately lets go of Aunn. "Uck! What was that?" Covering her nose and evil smirk with her hand, Marisa replies, “That was just one of my mistakes.” The stench quickly sets in. Wriggle starts crying, not sure what to do. Tears flowing out her eyes, her face red with embarassment, she yells angrily. "Screw this, screw you Cirno for getting me into this. I'm going to the Misty Lake to wash this off. " And off she goes. Part 4/4 It's not over yet. Cirno, who was quickly awoken by the stink, gets back on her feet. Only to look up and see Aunn's running knee flying straight into her face, and get immediately knocked down again. "Lets switch targets Marisa, she's too strong for me!" Aunn yells out as she lands on top of Cirno. But Marisa is long gone, having realized she has actual errands instead of fighting these children. Still, Aunn is raining slaps and knuckle sandwiches, while taking some too from Cirno. Meanwhile, Daiyousei gives up trying to convince Sakuya, when she turns around and spots Cirno getting beat up by Aunn. "No! Cirno!" She runs towards the two, preparing to intervene. While Aunn and Cirno are too busy trading punches, she closes in and tries to split them up, putting an arm between them. "Come on! You two! Please stop!" The two get up, with Daiyousei spreading her arms, making sure they keep distance. A worn-out Cirno furiously tries to keep swinging, yelling angrily "Get out of the way Daiyousei! I was about to beat her up!" Although she starts to calm down. Aunn, with bruises and teary eyes, points a finger at Cirno, exclaiming, "Hey she started it! I thought it was a boxing match but she used magic on me!" "Yeah yeah! Don't act like such an innocent puppy! You were the one helping Marisa summon that bright light!", Cirno quickly retaliates. Which makes Daiyousei pause for a moment and look around. "Hey, speaking of which, where did Marisa go?" Cirno also stops trying to swing at Aunn, forgetting about the scuffle for a moment. Her eyes naturally fall onto the only adult remaining. "Hey Sakuya, you were watching this whole time like some useless creep. Where'd Wriggle and Marisa go?", she asks with a load of disrespect. Sakuya stares back at Cirno unamusingly, clearly not happy with the insult. She simply turns around and leaves without a word. Cirno shrugs and looks back at the other two. Feeling the tension die down, Aunn also excuses herself, "Well I've had enough of this, I'm going home now like I intended to until you showed up." Cirno lets her go, managing to secure the last word. "Hmph. I guess I'll have mercy on you this time. I got better things to do." And with that Aunn walks away, stomping at the dirt with a pouty face. It looks like we will never find the source of the bright light, which caused such an unnecessary conflict. THE END...? If you made it all the way here, thanks for reading! I hope you all had as much fun reading this as we did in our RP!

Anyone else struggle finishing unfinished work?
kymoh replied to Idioms21's topic in All You Can Ask Buffet
First off, you said you made it worse but that looks AMAZING! It looks very professional like something out of a manga With that out of the way, yes, I used to be a bit like that but not as much anymore. I still struggle with things like essays where I finish the first draft but don't feel bothered to edit it. I get the feeling of having been super motivated, full of ideas when starting something but losing interest when coming back to it. I don't know how exactly to fix this commitment issue, but I have a few ideas to think about: -My hobbies are primarily making video games and music, both of which take a lot of time for one project. And while I might be able to rush a song in a day or two, that always ends up in me noticing an issue and going back to fix it. In a similar way, with video games I'm constantly testing with friends and finding bugs, which force me to stay committed to the project. So, maybe if you went back to your drawings and simply look at them, you will start wanting to make changes? -Sometimes I draw, and while I used to always finish it in one sitting, I usually take more time now. Perhaps it has to do with the process? If you have a specific idea for the entire drawing (being able to imagine exactly how it'll look), it's definitely hard to remember it all. In that case, you should start off with a general sketch, write down some of the ideas, or use a reference. (Honestly I think you're a better artist than me so I might be wrong) PS How do you make such clean art? All my drawings feel like they have so many unnecessary fold lines and details and it looks messy -
@bulgariansalad@スカーレット大鎌@ReisenFanatic17@Idioms21@Pinky Cat@nitorii Confirming November 10 at 15:00 GMT, hope to see you all there! Looks like most of us agreed on an RP, -which I have zero experience with- but hopefully all goes well >.< Anyways, we'll also chat about other things and probably play some other activities. We'll see what happens! Hmm, I've listened to a nice speedcore song or two, but it's usually a bit too fast for me. Personally, I prefer "speedcore without the speed." Genres like hardstyle or gabber :) Don't worry, I haven't played the games much and it should be fine if you have a general idea of most of the characters. The plan is to let everyone roleplay their favorite characters, and I'll sort of play as a narrator to guide you all through the world. I'm excited to see how this goes! Alright, see you guys on Sunday! :D

What do y'all think if I made a game where you play as a youkai and pull pranks on humans?

Aw Sun, you always try to be a part of everything :)
But yeah, I dunno if I'll be adding human npcs with names, besides I haven't started making it so we'll see what happens!

-
Some of you may have already seen me pondering this is in the chatbox, but I'll make it official here. What do you all say to a live meetup where we'll talk and play some fun activities together? My thinking is next Sunday (Nov 10) at, say, 15:00 GMT. And don't worry, it won't be voice chat, we will just be using the chatbox (in the forum homepage). If several people can't make it, then I'm up for rescheduling it. So far I have a few games in mind, to give you all an idea of what we might do. Feel free to post any other games! Anyways, what do you all think about this Moriya Meetup? Who's interested!

Any fellow touhou fans my age (19)?

I'd say there's the most early-twenties and late teens from my experience. ^Touhou popularity poll in 2023. Results are pretty clear -
what are the most unhinged theorys and headcannons you can come up with?
kymoh replied to a topic in Misty Lake
What headcanons have I come up with? Surprisingly I don't think I really have any. I dunno maybe I'm not imaginative enough What headcanons CAN I come up with? I know it's a simple grammatical error in the title but I can't help it- I'll now try to come up with the most unhinged ideas on the spot haha: --All right, this is future me. Please don't read the delusional ramblings below-- Did you know Reimu is actually a mystical blue alien that was crafted by Marisa in an effort to help soothe her life-threatening schizophrenia and the fact that she has no friends? But it turns out Reimu was accidentally summoned on the 30th of Feburary (the night of the demons), resulting in her becoming the single most powerful but anemic sorcerer of all time. Yep, she might look like a miko but the red clothes actually represents her lack of blood and she's not allowed to leave the shrine or she'll crumble into dust. Anyways this all lends itself to the idea that all the youkai in Gensokyo are mind-controlled by Reimu's ghost dog named Dawg. And since Dawg is actually just a figment of Reimu's imagination, in the end it is Reimu that mind-controls all the youkai. Think about it, my theory is supported by evidence. How else is she the one that stopped all the incidents? It's because she CAUSED them herself! By inventing more incidents Reimu can profit off of the rewards for solving them, and the motive is clear because everyone knows she's always begging for donations. So, what is there to do about this unsettling truth? Well, there exists an ancient but powerful ritual that can stop Reimu and put an end to all these incidents! The ritual is based off of a traditional Masonic initiation event and it involves blindfolding the main subject (in this case, you!). Because you won't be able to see, Reimu will be unable to see you, and she'll become so lost that Marisa will stop seeing her schizophrenic delusions and Reimu will vanish from existence! Quick, before it's too late! -
That's cool I never had a lucid dream but this doesn't have to do with touhou so you should probably post these discussions to misty lake next time

what reason has made you stay in your touhou era?
kymoh replied to koakumas's topic in All You Can Ask Buffet
It's not a phase it's my life! Joking aside, the reason I remain a touhou fan is because of the community :) I always see so many talented fans -artists, musicians, writers, game developers, and on and on- making amazing fanworks that never fail to blow me away! I love being able to search "touhou [insert genre here]" and see tons of cool remixes! And when I'm not watching all kinds of touhou content, there's big touhou events like Touhoufest where I can meet fellow touhou fans in person :D -
Yep the story really got intense all of a sudden! And I am definitely NOT taking any chances with this scary six-eyed mess. I voted late, but I went with the flash bang option, I'm thinking it's best to utilize whatever reliable items Oscar has. We I know nothing about this youkai and if I were him, I'm not about to take chances trying to befriend it or play tricks with paper doors! And while reading the grimoire sounds funny, remember that Oscar can't even read Japanese! How useless would that be! (I suppose he could throw the book at the monster, which might actually be more effective) I agree with you and Master Gri, this scary yokai encounter got me filled with suspense :D I can vividly picture the scene in my head and the horror I see on Cirno & Wriggle's faces is definitely a sight I wish I could share to you all Interesting ideas! I hadn't thought about Cirno&Wriggle being immune from getting hung - speaking of which, I feel like you always catch useful points that I miss- Also, imagining the youkai's disappointment made me crack a smile :) I find it funny when seemingly emotionless monsters expose some human personality As a final note, I wonder if the crease in the paper wall was referencing to a yokai? Because in that case the team might be very screwed- they're going to have trouble running from the current monster if the walls suddenly start jumping at them :O Alright, I think I've rambled randomly for long enough now. Forgive me for being so inactive and late recently >.<
-
Nothing touhou-related surprisingly I like to watch Top Gear, The Grand Tour, and Columbo. But that's if I watch anything at all- last time I watched any shows was probably weeks ago.
-
well, apparently Chen means "orange" in Chinese, and Orange is my favorite touhou character so I'll give you two a pass this time
-
Hi welcome Idioms21! Looks like you're pretty new but already exposed to the strong bond between the touhou and tf2 community- believe me, there is A LOT of overlap and you'll likely run into many more parodies of the two communities combined :) Awesome! I'm not really into fighting games or gacha games, but I'd love to see some of your art! I'm also curious who your inspiration is
-
oh yeah? Well if she's the best character then what's her last name? Only a true fan would know it!
-
Ah you brought up a really good point, I never considered it from that angle! I thought of changing my vote, but in my defense I didn't want to confuse Yumetou who had probably already started writing by then. Maybe next time :) Yaay! My ally!! :D About the latest chapter, I voted a bit late but it looks like I wasn't going to have an effect anyway... unless I immediately mobilize five alt accounts and perhaps convince my ally to switch his vote XD . And before everyone accuses me of trying to be different, allow me to explain my 1-6 vote: I chose to ignore the door was because if something so horrifying is behind that it, something that can frighten the always-calm Agappa, then learning about it will probably only convince Oscar to ignore it anyways. Sure, Master Gri and Mr. Motor Home bring up logical arguments, but I say let mysteries be mysteries. No need to waste time scaring Oscar, and no need to push our terrified little Agappa to dwell on it longer.
