  1. Cutting it rather close this time, aren't I? I'm not big into rock in it's simplest form, but I love it when there's a showcase of creativity and skill.
  2. XP Sounds Attempt Original: Better audio:
  3. I found out this week that Sabotage Studios are working on an RPG prequel to The Messenger. Eric W. Brown (a.k.a. Rainbowdragoneyes) is returning to compose the soundtrack with contributions from Yasunori Mitsuda (yes, the Yasunori Mitsuda). My musical hype is immeasurable. EDIT: Four years later, these links have died, but it doesn't make much sense to dig up new links for them since the game's come out and received an proper feature. The record will show what tracks were initially used here.
  4. So . . . this exists. It's well done. I don't know how I feel about it, but it's well done. Anyway . . . Since there was a comment about Jun.A, I suggest this soundtrack as a good place to start.
  5. It's either Amamyia or J, cause it wasn't me. I'll try to make up for it, though: That should do, I think. ???? Also forgot to say I love sfx remixes, so I very much appreciated that.
  6. Slow techno trance? Melodic dubstep? I don't know, it's a very unique style (about what I'd expect from Raine). I found this, though. I'm a day late, so Imma just carry over from DF.
  7. Actually, this is rather fun! I believe that everyone has at least one song they'll like in any genre, and Stack's signature style working with the surf rock is a blend I can appreciate. Thank you for sharing!
  8. I realize I've been listening to a lot of folk lately, so here's something to balance it out. Happy Resurrection Day, y'all!
  9. I've yet to find someone who can do mashup remixes as high quality as DJtheS. My personal favorite from him is Broken Champ. He also did a Touhou remix album; I'd recommend listening to Native Festival - Suwako. This week, a remix from Touhou 14. I struggle with the stage 1-4 boss themes, which seem more intense and chaotic than Touhou normal is elsewhere. So I appreciate finding a remix that preserves that intensity while lessening the sinister feel.
  10. I don't know if last week's "extra" was effective or not, but now seems as good a time as any to expound upon it. This was one of three soundtracks that started my obsession with VGM (the other two were Undertale and A Hat in Time). I came across this soundtrack while searching for orchestral OSTs in indie gaming. The music led me to the game, which contests with the one above for my #1. Other than that, I'm not sure why I often find myself comparing these two soundtracks to each other.
  11. That's amazing! For some reason, the idea of classical into Touhou has never occurred to me before, and I love the idea. For anyone who might need context: This reminds me of a couple other instances where a Touhou-style piece is produced from an unrelated source. These may be either more or less impressive; the foundational motifs are very short, which means more work but more freedom (I'm inclined to think the Chopin adaptation was more difficult). Regardless, they're pretty spectacular. Is this a thing, now? Don't worry, DF, I'll be patient. ????
  12. These are a few of the flash games I used to play that stuck in my memory musically. In looking them up for this post, I found multiple cases where music used was not composed for the game, but nonetheless has become associated with it. Orb A Mind Too Demented for Eating - surfertmex Diamond Hollow II Handheld Hero - Wizwars Duck Life 4 Swimming Training Theme - Peter Carr In a lot of ways, these pieces represent my introduction to VGM, especially in the case of Duck Life 4 (underrated soundtrack).
  13. YES! This is the original version of one of my favorite fan-made Touhou tracks! The original artist wasn't happy with the piece (as seen by their comment on the original video), and decided to remake it. I get the impression Precision wanted a more boss-theme type track, but you can judge for yourself. Sometime after that, someone else asked to remix the theme again. Having been granted permission, the Nenekonesha presented onto Precision a piece entitled, "Isolated Musical Phrases about a Girl that was Cut from Production by its Creator but Whose Resource References were not Commented Out from the Source Code either due to Development Oversight or Just Plain Trolling and was Picked up By Fans Because She looked Moe ~ Descending Pink." ... Thankfully, the title was shortened before release. The looping version is better, but the only one available is a ten minute plus extended. Still worth a listen, though. I'd love another remix tournament (especially since I missed the first one).
  14. I've very much enjoyed contributing to the Other Game Music thread, and I'd like to start doing something similar with Touhou related music. This thread will be for the sharing of musical discoveries made in the Touhou fandom, whether they be remixes or original works in the style of Touhou. There's been a few threads like this already, but my hope is the more open-ended style of this will make it more accessible. If anyone hasn't checked the Remix Tournament and Monthly Music Sharing threads, there's some great music to be found there! To start off, a comment on a LENK64 video led me to this circle. Apparently they do remixes in the styles of the games. For example, Bad Apple!!, but in the style of Touhou 11 ~ Subterranean Animism: I've appreciated quite a few of their covers. If there's a Touhou related piece of music anyone would like to share, please do! I'll commit to contributing once a week.
  15. Well, we had to get to this eventually. If there's anyone left in the world who hasn't heard this soundtrack, then that just reinforces the need to get it on this thread. On the other hand, this older title deserves at least equal recognition. I can't be the only one who sees the similarities between these two, right? The music, the stories, even the titles . . . But I haven't seen anyone make the comparison before. Maybe I've just missed it.
  16. Apparently it's ZUN's birthday today. This may be cheating, but I can't let the opportunity pass up. Someone will get it, I'm sure. Courtesy of Spirit_Medium: Maya's theme is probably my favorite track from these games. Courtesy of GundamFan15: I'm not as familiar with these ones, but I really liked what I found from Endless Duel. Mario music is a far reaching subject, so it's difficult to pick out just a couple of tracks to represent it.
  17. Today is the 25th Anniversary of Chrono Trigger! I had already posted some CT music before realizing this, so this week I will share a remix. Additionally, Ori and the Will of the Wisps released today. The original was one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen, and I'm glad to see the sequel stands up to its predecessor in that regard. But this forum is about music, so here's a track from the original's OST. This is becoming quite the collection, don't you think?
  18. I've been listening to a lot of Shovel Knight recently, so I'll share some of that this week. In addition, there's two soundtracks mentioned previously by others which are no longer available through the supplied links, due to the videos being taken down. I don't know much about these games personally, but I'd like to ensure they are available for those who may be interested. I already know what I'm doing for next week; lots of exciting things happening. ????
  19. One day I'd like to play Chrono Trigger. The reviews for the PC release have made me hesitant to invest in that direction, so I'm holding out for a Switch release (long shot, but one can hope). This week, another turn-based RPG from much more recent times (but with an equally timeless soundtrack IMO).
  20. I've mentioned a lot of lesser-known OSTs so far. This week I'll bring up Chrono Trigger. Most people have probably already heard this soundtrack, but it's worth remembering. Edit: Links broke again, and I only remember one of the two pieces I originally posted. It shouldn't matter too much; we'll definitely be returning to Chrono Trigger in the future.
  21. I'm going to start doing these on Wednesday instead of Friday. Hue is a more obscure release, but its soundtrack is one of my favorites.
  22. Another one I haven't heard of before. A nice, simple yet catchy tune. ???? This week, a two for one. Here's a couple of tracks from much more recent times. Lucas Pope, known for Papers Please, released another game called Return of the Obra Dinn with a very unique soundtrack. The Pedestrian is a puzzle game released a week or two ago. The soundtrack is predominately your typical relaxing puzzle music, but has a few uniquely styled tracks as well.
  23. In the interests of keeping this thread alive, I will take this opportunity to share the work of Tim Follin. I can't tell if the Follin Brothers are the most under-rated VGM composers of all time, or if people just don't talk about them because of how bad the games tended to be.
  24. I had never heard of Okami, and now I'm disappointed I can't afford the soundtrack. Always unfortunate when a great OST doesn't get a release in the Western Hemisphere. ???? The track reminded me of an I am Setsuna remix that made use of traditional instruments. I don't hear this style used in VGM very often, but I'd love to find more examples.
  25. I'm all for reviving this thread. It was a love for VGM that introduced me to Touhou in the first place. I'm already a fan of Ace Attorney music, and the original Pursuit ~ Corned is my favorite. I've put off investigating Danganronpa for some reason; this track has definitely pricked my curiosity. For some reason I've never considered checking out the older Persona OSTs. Now I'll have to add that to the list. But Deus Ex . . . I've never heard of this game's soundtrack, and this track sounds amazing! I'm more familiar with indie titles myself, so I'll share a couple of more recent titles that I believe are underappreciated. Ninja Gaiden homage/retro-styled metroidvania, The Messenger: Mario 64 homage/modern 3D platformer, A Hat in Time: Edit: A Hat in Time was mentioned previously on this thread, but the video has since been removed from Youtube. Thus I felt justified in mentioning it again. Edit 2: I'm taking advantage of the broken link to add a few tracks, for better representation.
