FamilyJules has stated several times his admiration for the soundtrack of Paper Mario: The Origami King. My initial followup was unsuccessful in catching my interest, and the 244 video playlist was a bit too intimidating for me to devote the time to go through it all. I have finally come back to it, and by jumping around I feel I finally understand the appeal. I would liken this soundtrack to that of A Hat in Time or Little Town Hero, with its diverse styles and cheerful melodies punctuated by hard hitting battle themes. Given this, I couldn't decide on just three or four themes to represent the whole (and that without even listening to the whole thing), so just this once I'm posting six tracks.

This is a Touhou remix, but the focus is the odd instrumentation. I considered saving it for next Cirno Day, but I'll probably have forgotten it by then. Explanation ends at 2:21.

I wanted to add a couple more Kommisar pieces (just 'cause), and YaboiMatoi just released his prog metal album. I've been looking for Autumn related remixes for this Saturday, in keeping with Thanksgiving being next week. Unfortunately (but not unexpectedly), one rarely finds the better remixes by actively looking for them. Hopefully whatever I gather will suffice, and maybe the searching will trigger some proper discoveries via Youtube's Recommended.

Okay, here's some non-Deemo V.K compositions: The reason they're all from the same album is because I bought this one. It included all the Deemo tracks, and I was already committed to getting a "best of" album if there was one. I actually chose Reflection (Mirror Night) for the Other Game Music post because I preferred the in-game version significantly over the album version (though I'm not entirely sure why). I know this shouldn't bother me, but ftr "traveler" is spelled with only one "L."

Fair enough; thanks for sharing! Also I find it hilarious that the three of us being here at the same time has meant a barrage of back-and-forth posts. ? Edit: Did you know that when a thread is getting a barrage of consecutive postings, it's labeled as "HOT!" in the forum menu?
-
Honestly, I've been afraid to post in it as often as I've felt inclined for fear of overdoing the non-Touhou content. I already have Other Game Music, and I don't want to push the patience of the moderators.
-
Yeah, I remember EastNewSound; I still [guiltily] listen to Beneath the Scarlet Moon. Um . . . didn't you make that thread? Speaking of which, I was gonna post some of V.K's work over there . . .

@Amamiya Yuki- The song's not bad, but I'm not sure it's Touhou related. Leastways, I can't detect any familiar motifs myself.
-
@buskerdog I've seen those pop up in my recommended before. I appreciated the second one; I wish remixes of Witches' Ball relied more heavily on the Seihou version. Also, hi Amamiya!

Unbeknownst to me in my postings since the tournament, 11th Hour was working on their next album. This is a collaboration group of orchestral remixers organized by crescentia, and notably features several artists which I've recently posted about. I feel I've done crescentia himself a great disservice in not featuring him sooner, so here's his track from the album: Next up in the featured chiptune remixes is Kommisar. He hasn't posted anything recently, but there's several past arrangements from him which are worth a listen. His style is more complex than the retro sound of HertzDevil. Buskerdog has just unintentionally scared me, and I applaud him for his incidental timing. I don't know if audio notifications are new, but I'd never head them before now. ?

@jssf1992 You actually posted that back in May. I don't mind the refresher, though; I think I can appreciate it more now than I did then. @buskerdog These are good! I like the arranger's artstyle as well.

Thank you for your expansions! In doing this weekly, there are times I feature a soundtrack I'm not actually that familiar with. So I will always appreciate someone who is more familiar with the soundtrack and/or source game providing a more experienced prospective. I almost used Leviathan in place of Metal Hypnotized when putting the post together. Duo Blade Against didn't seem to be included in the four volume soundtrack release, and I'm unsure if it's unreleased or if there are more albums. Either way, I was very impressed by this piece, and hope I can find more on it later. Wake Up, Get Out There is in SSBU? That seems almost insulting, but the representation is technically unaffected, so . . . I haven't even touched the music for Scramble and Royal. Daredevil stands out in your selection; I'll probably be listening to that more in the future. The soundtrack for Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent has finally been getting uploaded to Youtube. Octopath is my second favorite video game soundtrack of all time, just barely tailing the collective Touhou Project for my number one. I have been very hyped for the prequel's music, and it has not disappointed.

Have you seen the Piano Guys video for I Want you Bach? As I listened to "Mocking Dance" ~ Can you step on the dancing?, I started to visualize a similar scenario. There is a darkened stage, and in the forefront are two distinct groups. On the one side is an ensemble of Latino folk, and on the other is some form of rock band with synthesizers. As the performance progresses, these two sides continually trade off the song to each other, sharing and contrasting each other's styles. Over time, more of the stage is lit to reveal more parts of both groups. Sometimes the two will let the song rest equally between them, lending elements of both styles into a balanced blend. This may be the first musical piece of over ten minutes that I remained completely engaged with the entire way through.

I'm up later than I should be, and I'm unable to turn in yet. So while I'm waiting I think I might as well add a couple more things. This is an interesting take on Hartmann's Youkai Girl. Then another jazz piece. I don't know why I'm suddenly listening to jazz more, but the variety is good for the thread. Also: Bongos.

I found this Touhou game jam compilation album on Bandcamp. It has quite the variety of noteworthy artists and styles. https://touhoujam.bandcamp.com/album/touhou-jam-jams Prismriver Orchestra released a jazz piece yesterday. I realize I just posted something from him, but I'm trying to ration out my backlog collection right now. On that note, this will be the first chiptune remix I post on Musical Discoveries. HertzDevil's MEGA ZUN project features a more retro style, and he's managed to cover quite a few pieces across the series over the years.

@Amamiya Yuki- Downside of the embedded mp3 is lack of track identification.

As promised, I spent some time over the weekend listening to Deemo. I perceive that this is more a compilation of music than a proper soundtrack, and as such features a very wide variety of styles. There were quite a few vocals, and I did not enjoy any of them. Of the instrumentals, V.K definitely stood out from the rest. I might post some of his non-Deemo work in Amamiya's music thread later. I was able to get through about half of the full soundtrack, which is spread across four album releases. From that, these are my highlight picks. EDIT: As with the Persona 5 feature, the same user posted a few more Deemo tracks. These two expansions were the subject of my comments the following week.

This Cosmic Mind remix was just uploaded today! Good timing, eh? Like most of the pieces from this soundtrack, this is a more laid-back type of orchestral arrangement. I get a noble/reverent impression from it, in contrast to CarrotWine's epic style. I'm not sure it quite fits, but I still appreciate it. Since I'm here, I'll post this symphonic metal piece, too. FalKKonE only sells arrangements that he can license, and Kanako's announced inclusion in 17.5 has given me hope that I'll finally get this particular one.
-
You did; bossa nova Patchouli back in July. I didn't follow up at the time, though.
-
Literally just came across this piece. I'll be keeping an eye out for ShibayanRecords in future.
-
This is one of the nudicso pieces I've found since the tournament ended. Actually, it popped up in my recommended after I had been searching for a while. Also, ssbbmaster posted a Tiny, Tiny, Clever Commander remix this week, so I'll include that too.

Seihou's Witches' Ball is severely underrated, especially considering how overrated I sometimes feel Dichromatic Lotus Butterfly is. I personally prefer the .wav version over the SC-88Pro. With all the references to Persona 5 during RC3, I felt it would be remiss of me not to feature it here. I will admit, however, that my experience with this soundtrack is very limited. In fact, I think these are the only three tracks I'm familiar with (except for Wake Up, Get Out There, but as far as I'm concerned it's too similar to Life Will Change). EDIT: Additional tracks were featured by another user in a subsequent post, which has since been deleted. However, the feature was noted in the record, so I am able to restore its contents (though not its comments). I'm not seeing a "spoiler tab" option right now, so I'll make do with the "quote" function. In a way, it seems fitting.

I was just going back through the previous two tournaments, and I noticed one of the entries was no longer available. So I'm making a replacement link here. I'll get to Len'en eventually; still so much backlog . . .

But it was a great one! By far the best arrangement of the piece I've found yet! So thank you for that, and as promised here's a Cosmic Mind arrangement. Yeah it's CarrotWine and you've probably heard it already but it's honestly the best out of the ones I found. My metal tolerance level lies somewhere between heavy and hard, though I sometimes think metal subcategories are ill-defined so I'm not confident in my true tastes. I liked the ANRYA piece, and also the CROW'SCLAW that Garison mentioned. At one point I thought the likes of Demetori and xi-on counted toward my metal inclusiveness, but now I've realized they're closer to symphonic metal. There's still RichaadEB!
