  1. Are you as bubbly as your smiling Orin as of this post?
  2. Welcome to Moriya Shrine, Koa! Nonsensical humor? I'm in! It goes great with caffeine! I'd love to see the joy you bring with your humor and art!
  3. This sums everything up perfectly! Anyway, where can I learn more/read mathilda's world? I'm interested in this particular brand of 'hell'~
  4. Interesting because I'm the type who would welcome such a thing. If you're willing to elaborate as to why you stopped, I'd love to hear more about it.
  5. Ah ok maybe my understanding between FCs and OCs are wrong. I'm also not familiar with "Mathilda's World". I thought it was an already existing series that you made a character for. (which to me is an FC). I am now under the impression its your own unique story (which to me is an OC) I'll try to elaborate further, that an FC is made specifically to fit into an existing series (such as Touhou) where as an OC is a character that is part of an original series and/or stand alone universal character that does not specifically belong anywhere. It can still be used in RPs/fanfics of existing series but have their own individual lore/origins that are not bound by the rules of any specific series, other than their own if they have one. And yea reading it again sounds like you were wondering if to post or not based on the plot and its themes rather than the character itself. Such mistakes often mean my caffeine tank is running low lol. Lastly: Weird is good!
  6. @NetsumuNico7 Like you, I prefer the forum format as it gives me a bit more time to think my response through (and leaves my sillier comments out there to simmer for better or worse lol) Maybe "Discord Servers" are simply not your thing rather than the servers themselves having issues or not, though it does sound like you haven't had the best time in them so far, I can see why you'd be hesitant. As to the Discord Channel itself for Moriya, I joined it mostly to get answers regarding an obnoxious bug/crash in Touhou Lotus Labyrinth R as it was recommended/encouraged to go there for questions involving games. If you're curious to know if it's a right fit or not for you, then my advice is to join it and give it a shot, at the very least to 'lurk and observe' it before jumping in. Everyone has individual needs and I think the best way to know if it's for you is to just get into it. Hope this helps you somehow!
  7. I'd say it counts as an FC (Fan character) which is like the little twin sibling of the OC (as to me, the definition of OC is an original character for an original series, whereas an FC is an, implied original character made by a fan for an existing series. Anyone can feel free to correct me or elaborate on this) Either way though creation is awesome and I second suyu_ in that it is indeed admirable when people put the time and effort into it. I misread that as "kapparapper" and imagined someone dressed as Nitori being a DJ at a club
  8. What is your opinion on 'birthdays'?
  9. @The_Trader  Since I mentioned it and you suggested I do so, here it is!

This was super fun to do and I feel doing this kinda quiz/list thing helps you really put into perspective your own perception of the series as well as expressing to others who/what in particular pulls you to the series.  I sure have a lot more to learn... says Hime with excitement~

Anyway here goes will try to be brief (hah!):

    Spoiler

Lunatic Tier: 1-11 (May not seem like it, but I am seriously holding back here)

    1. Hatate: Consider I like her more than everyone else on this list and how much I have to say about THEM even when trying to be brief...

    2. Yuuka: The idea of her nuking those who would tarnish beautiful flowers fascinated me. What kind of monster tramples innocent flowers? Also there was a wholesome comic about her discovering her "flower powers" and she was actually ashamed of it at first! OP in Touhou Pocket Wars. Oh right need to be brief...

    3. Joon: Even now I can't explain it, but I'd be scared to actually meet her as I feel I genuinely would give it all up for her. One of my all time favorite designs in the franchise. The fact that she turns my money to 0 in Lotus Labyrinth in seconds isn't even an issue. I just love using her. Cutest 'sleeping' sprite in that game. I really do gotta play Antinomy of Common Flowers soon...

    4. Kokoro: Her blank stare which contrasts with her actual emotions and the shifting of the masks, her design and the spear... what's not to love? Hopeless Masquerade was incredibly fun too! Her Tanuki Mask in the Aqua Style games never ceases to crack me up.

    5. Kosuzu: Cute bookworm. Need I say more?  Her cheery personality and appearance contrast the stereotypical perception of a "bookworm" so that might be why I'm inclined to her? I feel we'd get along if we met! I want those bells and that apron...

    6. Sunny: The cute one of the FoL. Maybe its her cheery 'sunny' disposition that gets me? Alongside the other two in FoL, Touhoumon is actually what first made me like the FoL which led me to the printworks. I can't stop laughing at imagining her Headbutting her opponents, or trees lol.

    7. Luna: The pretty one of the FoL. Those curls are killer. Maybe her and Joon go to the same hair stylist? Also, since she likes reading the paper, does she have a preference between Bunbunmaru/Kakashi Spirit News? (I forgot... lol) Touhoumon: She's an electric type and electric types are OP. Every time I eat chestnuts I think of her. Lol.

    8. Clownpiece: When I first saw her I genuinely thought she was ridiculous but she grew on me. The idea of a "Hell Fairy" is super cool too. Wonder if ZUN will create "(blank) Fairies" of other types in the future, or even 'generic hell fairies"...? Also admit it: you wanna see the statue of liberty replaced by an equally sized Clownpiece statue.

    9. Star: The brains of the FoL. Even though I prefer the other two, it wouldn't be the same without her. Also Touhoumon HM slave lol. (and funny to trap the 'roaming' Watatsuki sisters with Star of all characters lol.) In hindsight, Piece and Star should be tied. Oh well.

    10. Seiga: I was shocked to see her THIS high lol. Anyway I actually grew to like her a lot from her brief appearance in WaHH. Won't go into detail but It was one of my favorite chapters in it and makes me wish she had more content. Maybe a spin off: Wicked and Hostile Hermit?

    11. Tewi: She trolled and added the "order/Name" thing above Hatate to squeak in an 11th place. There's more "accidentally funny" things that happened with this list that I attribute to her lol. Also Inaba of Moon and Earth is just love. We need more Tewi artwork with shades/guns/landmines. Lol.

Hard Tier: 12-67 (Constantly fluctuating, I'm surprised at how much some went up/down my list...)

    12. Cirno/Daiyousei: What can I say, I love fairies. I didn't wanna tie anyone but hey I think this was fair. They deserve the top. I don't see anyone ever mention it, but Advent Cirno is just awesome. While I do like Fairy Wars, it seems my masochism leads me to the 'Tengu" games instead heh...

    67. Rinnosuke: I like him but it's amusing that he somehow sneaked the bottom of the Hard tier lol. Tewi had a hand in this. Not sure why, but I always smile when I see him appear. Headcanon: He is ZUN's self insert. Also, I wonder if he's the "Ditto" of the game in any Touhoumon variant? Sorry that's just personally amusing to think about... (his chibi sprite in it is surprisingly cute too)

Normal Tier: 68-123 (A bit more stable, this part of the list has some great characters... I just like the ones above more. Hm...)

68: Ruukoto: Mentioned for being at the top of the Normal Tier, I have to admit, I'm honestly not TOO familiar with her outside of Touhoumon, won't deny it. For those completely unfamiliar with Ruukoto/Mimi that had played Touhoumon, I wonder how many picked her over Mimi and vice versa? I really do need to play more PC98...

83: Doremy: Mentioned for being the "cut off" between the upper and bottom half of the list as a whole. Beyond that not much to say but I find her being here interesting. For those who play the Aqua Style games, she can, in fact, steal your dreams even with the Hibernate ability... (Seriously, why does Hibernate override Sleep Resistance???)

123: Yuugi: Bottom of the mid tier? Hm... While I'd like to go out for drinks with her, she also kinda scares me. I'm afraid I'll say the wrong thing and considering she'd be drunk... I love all the Oni so I'm surprised she just barely made it here.

Easy Tier: 124-166   (Again this list just happened. The test isn't 100% 'foolproof' and there's definitely some who never got a 'battle' that deserved a tie like Shingyoku. Basically someone had to end up here...)

124: Aya: She's at the top... of the lowest tier. I'm sure Hatate is pointing and laughing. Tewi strikes again. I actually DO like Aya... just every character above her more lol. Shoot the Bullet/Double Spoiler are among my favorites in play style despite being obscenely hard and Double Focus is a riot! I swear her precise placement here was NOT intentional... which makes it all the funnier. Very fun to use in Hisouten

166: Youmu: I have nothing against Youmu. She just... wound up here I guess. Someone had to, given the nature of any tier list. I just felt I should apologize to her. Like Aya, fun to use in Hisouten.

...Whew. That's it. I mostly typed that for myself, but if anyone actually read this, thank you! It was fun to write and I hope, even if slightly, anyone who read it liked it too!

I'd love to see other's lists too!

Love your list! (Feel free to gush about them if you'd like, especially your no.1 Yuyuko~).

You got some good picks here as a whole. Glad to see Kogasa, Hina and Alice score so high~

What actually got me curious is the surprise at seeing characters like Remi and Reisen rank so low in your list (also poor Mystia but it just happens.)

      The_Trader

Yah poor Reisen needs some love after all the pranks Tewi pulls and Erin's chores

But then again, that same harsh treatment is what led to the downright awesome "Dream World Reisen"

  10. OMG ME TOO... is what I wanna say. Wait I already did! Too late! Yes I've seen you around a bit here and there, you do seem nice! Still, considering you've been around longer than me it's odd to welcome you (but I do anyway haha!) More importantly though, you should give yourself that awesome card cuz... HATATE~
  11. Welcome! It's so awesome you can pull a 1cc on normal so many games (I've only fluked one lol). I'm also down for discussions and chats so feel free to hit me up if you'd like!
  12. So you're saying even my joke Yorigami sisters theory is more likely? lol. But good point in debunking it since where here to discuss and try to figure this out. I gave this some thought and came up with something to add on: Rather than Yukari being the Kami, I believe that Genoskyo itself is the Kami. Yukari, then, I believe would be the physical manifestation of Gensokyo. But if everyone knew Yukari is Gensokyo and its kami, that may attract more unwanted attention and deter her from protecting it. But if she's just a "very powerful Youkai" then she is, at the end of the day "still only a youkai" and merely feared. So through Reimu's actions is how she 'gathers the faith" in a more roundabout way. The Shrine itself would be her true base and the "poverty" of the shrine would be intentional to keep the excessively curious from figuring this out. I'd say even Reimu doesn't know and that too is part of Yukari's plot. Reimu would be too obsessed with wanting to relax, getting donations, etc. rather than trying to ever genuinely sit down and think about where her powers come from. Her personality happens to be the ideal type for Yukari to manipulate, which is probably why she was chosen (something I don't recall ever being shown/mentioned: How Hakurei shrine maidens are chosen. Even if one argues "bloodline" then who chose the very first Maiden? Reimu clearly isn't the first one...) Someone brought to my attention recently that many outsiders who come into Gensokyo tend to first appear at the Hakurei Shrine, as if the shrine itself is a "gap" or rather, that it is the borderline between Gensokyo and the Outside World, as in, it is the only place that overlaps the two, but only Yukari is able to fluidly go between them. So then, perhaps the Torii itself of the Hakurei Shrine is the final border between the 'mundane' (outside world) and the sacred (or 'fantasy' in this case: Gensokyo) and the moment one walks into Hakurei Shrine, they are in a unique place in Gensokyo that is "closest to the outside world" but still not quite there. Taking this into account, no one would ever think that gate is "reversed" as the Hakurei Shrine is the least sacred area in Gensokyo as it is the 'closest to the outside world" Once you step outside the shrine and into the rest of Gensokyo, is where the 'sacred fantasy' begins. Even if this is isn't completely accurate in terms of how Shinto Shrines work, Hakurei Shrine is no ordinary Shrine to begin with and therefore I believe some exceptions could in fact be accurate. I hold an additional theory that Yukari keeps everyone imprisoned within Gensokyo and thus why no one can leave it unless she allows it. After all, no matter how powerful you are, if no one believes in you, you're no 'kami'. If people started leaving Gensokyo and if Yukari is indeed the Kami of Gensokyo as a whole/Gensokyo itself, then she would lose faith/followers/power if people started leaving. Going back to Gensokyo=Kami: Both us in the outside world and the residents of Gensokyo who believe in Reimu's power to resolve incidents and protect Gensokyo are where the faith comes from and thus why, give or take, "Reimu always wins when it matters" despite clearly not being the single most powerful being within Gensokyo. Lastly if Genso=Kami=Yukari, she may actually "nerf' Reimu to only be able to utilize her full power when needed, both to hide her true identity as a kami and the physical strain it would cause Reimu as she is, at the end of the day, still human.
  13. Well there's no "examples" here so I hope the format I used here encompasses all the "rules" set up. I'll amend accordingly, leaving it up to Nyoko, who set up this topic to decide. Felt I should be very brief about my OC Hime (Who I am still working on) to get a feel for my reasoning behind the names, abilities etc. so here goes: Hime's concept: Being someone shunned for being 'different' in the outside world, she develops an ability to "counter" or "defend" herself from prosecution and judgement. As such, the spell cards should have a "revenge" motif. If one would see Danmaku battles as a "conversation through combat and skill" then Hime would be "negating" the "conversation" by finding ways to counter, rather than accept. "Excuses rather than solutions". Like a negative person in a conversation going "Yea but..." to any and every potential solution, becoming increasingly upset when the "positive" person in the conversation has an air tight argument. Strength: Theoretically, could devise a plan/ability to counter any spellcard Weakness: Would be predictable and limited to the opponent they face. The Spellcards would be more to create openings for basic danmaku shots and technical rather than brute strength and as such could simply be overpowered by stronger opponents. Spellcard: Spite: Stalking Desire- Shoots several "satellite" danmaku that observe the opponent's movement, eventually locking on, suddenly shooting lasers that become incredibly rapid and go straight toward the direction they last locked into, piercing through any barriers or shields that may seek to deter them. During their "stationary" phase, they are more like deterrents that serve as roadblocks rather than an actual attack (although they can still cause damage if one is foolish enough to touch them). The idea is that they would force the opponent into a cramped area where all the "satellites" would home into the only direction the opponent has left to move into (ideally a literal corner) "Contain, Control, Suffocate" are key words for what this spell card is trying to express. Meaning: Since Hime's character is someone who brings resentment from the outside world, I felt the name fit for someone who is obsessed (stalking) their prey out of a grudge (spite). The "grudge" is internal and is in fact a projection toward the opponent. The stalking is a VERY deep-seated yearning to be understood (one they deny and internally rationalize), but due to her upbringing and difficulty in expressing herself, it instead comes out in the most negative, spiteful way as a type of 'mask' and 'defense'. Difficulty Easy Mode: Danmaku amount less than Normal. Only mode where the "speed shot" phase is the same size as the 'satelite" and is not a "laser". Normal: Standard as described. Satellites are stationary, but their ability to "face" the opponent to prepare for the Laser phase improves. The Laser size is about the same as the size of an average character. Hard: Danmaku amount increases as does Laser Hitbox, X2 of original. "Facing" speed up slightly" The Stationary Satellites move very slowly (slower than 'focus' speed) with the intent of cornering the foe. Satellites now slow down opposing danmaku. Laser Speed up. Lunatic: Danmku amount increases further, Laser Hitbox now X3 of standard Size. Facing speed up. Stationary Satellites move roughly at "Focus" speed. Satellites now absorb "weak, basic danmaku shots", making the satellite size increase in size but also slows them down which is the 'key' to avoiding them. Laser speed is not affected by this and is slightly buffed from Hard mode) The overall crudeness of the Spellcard and it's intent should express a "diamond in the rough" with a potential elegance that has yet to properly manifest within the caster.
  14. YES! So yea, thanks everyone for the replies! To "Carpet Reply" to everyone, I love the aspect of Hatate's ability not really letting her make 'new' content but rather 'expand on what's already there' creating a new perspective instead. I think that is, in a sense, the soul of Touhou and the fandom as a whole. That, and she has a wonderful balance of cute/cool/beautiful. She may not be too many's favorite or even in the radar of a "top" list, but that makes me wanna love her that much more! (If anyone is interested, I may make a top 10 list on my profile sometime~) There may not be much Hatate content... so maybe I should playfully make some? But then, will I appease Hatate with my efforts? Oh my, is she gathering faith from me? Fufufufu... My dream: To have a cup of coffee/tea with Hatate and helping her write an article. Also I wonder how she'd feel if I gave her one of those old phones where you had to spin that little disc thing to make calls as a gimmick... Gah I gotta stop! Otherwise I won't stop gushing over her!
  15. The way I see it: "The only truly horrible story is the one never written." Thinking that it's 'bad' just means you know it can improve and you want it to improve and it will improve if you keep at it! Let's try our best! I'd love to hear more about these stories! My DMS are open for that whenever you're up to it! You're very welcome! I look forward to it!
  16. (Long post, prepare yourselves.) I think its mostly about being judged by others negatively or people not being into them like the creator is. Like you might have some genuinely grand idea, but when you draw/write them it just isn't up to par with what you imagined. The other theory is that rather than reveal OC X, one would simply just make an original story that was originally based off an FC for a series that evolved into its own story outside of the work that originally inspired them, in this case Touhou. Some even mentioned this in this post that their Touhou OC became an OC in their own world and such. With all that being said, there was a post about Touhou Content I commented on about "making our own content" and after that post I actually began writing an idea out of the blue, one I still am half-serious about posting here. I say "half-serious" because while I do want to, I feel like I still need to iron it out. Also what I've read of the posts here show more than a day's worth of work unlike what I literally just came up with yesterday lol. Also @Yumeto: you mentioned something about good content taking time to get noticed by someone. Paraphrasing but it seriously hit me in the kokoro and is kinda making me wanna take it seriously for a change, in particular picking up that dusty old tablet but more on that some other time... Anyway I'll try to be brief. I am still uncertain of the name of the character, but I wanted it to be an isekai type story that Yukari, for whatever reason, influenced. The story wouldn't have any real direction beyond gradually revealing why she summoned this mysterious character the "Mercenary Maid" from the Outside World. The (currently nameless) Maid in question wouldn't have an real powers... at first, but would gradually develop them throughout the story and interactions with the other characters they meet on the way and this alone would be the clue/hook that would make the reader go "Why would a powerful Youkai like Yukari bring some 'powerless' human from the outside world and then let them act freely? Just what is she scheming...?" As for the Maid itself, I was thinking of making them a highschooler/college student who likes cosplay and winds up in Gensokyo while in a maid clothes, deciding to stick with it while believing all this is just some 'weird dream' Their personality is rather serious, despite their hobby, but slowly lightens up. As to why they are kinda grouchy at first has to do with their outside world life. The idea is that as they gradually begin accepting that they are 'stuck' in Genskyo, the Maid's heart slowly lightens their mood/personality and awakens their latent abilities which is heavily implied Yukari already knew about somehow. The idea for making it an isekai is mostly due to it being easier for me to write lol. There's other reasons but maybe I should stop here for now lol. And Nyoko, don't worry about wall texts, I happen to enjoy reading~
  17. So then the brain rot is intentional, is what you're saying? Also, even if they did let you read at your pace, the book selection is generally not what students want to read or there are elitist faculty and staff that believe 'comics' or 'light novels' or other 'non-classical' books to count as books/reading. But yea it's odd that learning is made un-fun, but then things like YT/social media/etc. are so easy to access. It's like healthy food vs junk food. Books would be like veggies which are good for you, but most students prefer the candy and snacks as they taste yummier, are easier to wolf down, generally more inexpensive in terms of bulk/money and because of their lack of nutritional value, the body is still 'hungry' and wont stop craving it. Sounds great! I'll DM you and we can discuss it in detail. Like with working out, maybe you need a 'spotter' to help you out and motivate you? Some people are willing to work out and genuinely get fit/healthy but can only really be motivated to do so with another. They help each other out, making sure that they don't neglect their goals and such. Also prismrivers have a lot of potential often being the first ones you think of regarding music/sound and being the only group of 3 siblings as the dynamic between 2 siblings vs 3 siblings is very different (most sibling pairings in Touhou are 2). They can also work with Mystia/Kyouko to form a band lol.
  18. Haha maybe we should just create the content ourselves. No really, that line by Yumetou was rather inspiring. Geez way to go. Now I wanna make content lol. Anyway, we can make something, with each of us contributing what we may and make the content we all believe is lacking. After all, isn't this where the best fanworks have come from? The desire to add more to the Gensokyo they already love? Regardless of how 'good' or 'bad' it does, we would be adding the things we like. Rather than the mentality of being the next big thing, we do it for fun. We could become serious about it or not. I'm semi-serious about that idea. If anyone is seriously considering what I said, even if for fun, I'd be up to discuss it. I wouldn't know what I can contribute myself beyond 'wanting it to happen' but hey you never know I might have some hidden awesome ability and maybe some of you do too if you don't already have an ability you're known for! ...Oh yea this is about brainrot lol. Um well, a lot was said but this one caught my eye so maybe the 'cure' is things that do the opposite such as "prioritizing the past/future and contextualize content" instead and seek a place that does so? In fact Books come to mind as the anti YT/tiktok/TV/etc.
  19. That. Right there. Just as you said you were passionate before, who is to say you won't feel similarly about these series that have 'taken you away from Touhou'? Who is to say you won't one day burn out from them and return to Touhou after a hiatus and 'remember' what first got you into it? I feel like I just said this stuff in another post lol... but anyway there is no true 'right' or 'wrong' way to enjoy Touhou. You're either a fan or you aren't, and both are fine though that decision is ultimately up to you and no one else (Regarding your own personal 'fan level' if you will) I go in and out of the series. In fact, every time I 'come back', I feel like I've been left behind by 1000 years lol. To me, the fact that you are giving it so much thought proves you are indeed a fan. If you suddenly take some time 'off' that doesn't discredit what you've contributed to the fandom (even a post on a forum is contributing to me). I'm still new here but already finding someone who writes "Essay long posts" and is known about it seems really cool already. The other posts here are also making me think not just about Touhou but life as a whole. Personally, not every Touhou fan needs to be some super hardcore walking wiki. (Though I respect that!) Like the series as much or as little as you want. Even if you enjoy the occasional pic or two and 'that's it', you're still enjoying the series. If anything doesn't that make you a bigger fan? Merely thinking about Touhou makes you question your love for the series. It's clear you still love the series, but perhaps feel you're not expressing it in the way you'd like or something may be 'missing' from it for you specifically. Anyway I feel like I'm repeating myself so, regardless of what you decide to do, I wish you happiness. If I see you again cool, cuz you seem cool to me. If not, then I wish you happiness and will be grateful that I know you exist. Either way good luck!
  20. Some theories here: *The TRUE final boss of the Touhou Series as a whole: The 'final game', whichever it may be, will reveal it. (Would be both cool and sad) *There is no ONE Kami, similar to how Yorihime calls upon many. (implied in Silent Sinner in Blue that they both have a similar ability) *As I recall in Shinto, there is no ONE particular Kami and as such, Reimu has the "wildcard" ability lmao. *There is no Kami for Hakurei Shrine: Being a "shrine maiden" is for presence/tradition, and she is, in fact a "Yokai Slayer" rather than a religious/spiritual figure, but by presenting herself as a "Shrine Maiden", then people naturally believe/are intimidated by the title. *Too much caffeine theory: Jo'on took all the money long before Reimu's time and now Shion haunts it since no other place is as desolate and fitting. (I have a few more but lets leave it at this lol)
  21. You're friendly neighborhood Hime here! I found this place by chance and figured "Hey I like Touhou and talking to people so why not?" It may sound odd, but I am actually happy to be surrounded by people who know SO much more about Touhou than me. I'm sure some of you know what I'm talking about right? Particularly irl where you're more likely to catch a fish at the pool than meet another Touhou fan! Anyway, I always want to learn more about the series and love to hear what others think, such as their preferred characters, games, and other such official/fanworks of the series. (The best feeling for a Touhou fan: "That exists?! I didn't know! *goes to obtain said unknown new Touhou Shiny* So yea, this intro is getting too long and caffeine and such so yea, please be patient as I'm still learning... though I do know one thing for sure: WE NEED MORE HATATE *cough* Also always down to chat on discord!
