The Amagami thread - an introduction to the cast
CountVonNumenor replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Human Village
Alright then, character showcase shall be then. I just need to figure out who I am going to start with, as that would mean checking through hundreds of Danbooru pages just to pick the images I like most about those characters (I just want to post as much fanart I like about them to accompany the discussion). I will probably use the general/introductory information for each of the characters like the wiki information for Kaoru, followed then by fanart/official material related to the character described. Character showcase: Ayatsuji Tsukasa General information (curtesy to the Amagami wiki): Tsukasa Ayatsuji (絢辻 詞 Ayatsuji Tsukasa) is one of the main characters of the series. Her story is in the final arc (the 6th arc of the anime). She is the 2- A class representative, organizing activities and addressing directly to her teacher, Maya Takahashi. Appearance: She has black hair with a "hime cut" [basically the Kaguya haircut for all of us used to Touhou - CvN's note] and black eyes. She wears their standard school uniform. Years later, her hair remains black but it is cut short. Personality: Described as a hard worker, she is one of the best and most popular students of Kibitou High School. Her innocent behavior is just an act to cover up her true self which is very manipulative and cunning, to the extreme of blackmailing the main character in the PS2 game (Junichi in the anime). She has been described as a tsundere which are clearly shown in episodes 22 and 23 in the anime. Despite making Junichi her "slave", she started to have feelings for him, as to the point of telling him to make him hers and erasing her "black personality" for him, but Junichi tells her that he loves her just the way she is. Age: - 16 (Amagami SS) - 17 (Episode 20/Rihoko Sakurai arc Part 4 and Amagami SS Plus) - 26 (Epilogue of Amagami SS episode 24) Note: only now I have noticed the fact that the wiki gives a lot of information about even stuff like the age, birthday, height or even the blood type for each of the characters. I am not every sure if everything is canonical (we all know the situation of the Touhou Fandom wiki), especially since I am not familiar with the source material, but they sure are interesting bits of random trivia. Some other trivia from the same article: Tsukasa is considered the Main Heroine of Amagami. All openings depict her as such. She was the girl on the box cover of the original visual novel and "EbiKore+ Amagami", as well as the manga cover of "Amagami: Sincerely Yours". Also, her story in the anime, if we count both seasons and skip the secret heroines, fits right in the middle upon the rest of the story arcs. As a little detail, the first opening plays at the end of her arc. In her arc also there are scene featured that treated some scenes of the other leads as side story Tsukasa's story in the manga is '"Amagami: Precious Diary". In Tsukasa's epilogue, her hair became shorter, but her daughter took her previous hairstyle. Tsukasa and Junichi Tachibana kissed several times more in the manga than in the anime. At the end of Tsukasa's arc in the anime she came back to the founders festival 10 years later with her husband Junichi along with their unnamed daughter which bares similarities to Tsukasa herself in her younger years. Tsukasa's anime first season ending is based on the end of best ending combined with remake good ending. She's the only heroine who confessed to Junichi early in the arc (the rest confessed at the last episode while Rihoko confessed in season 2) Her dark side was not explored much in other arcs except in Morishima's arc in season 2 where she got mad at Junichi for not saying his true intentions for taking the class rep speech Ai Nanasaki might be aware of her dark personality but it is not explicitly stated. As of the anime, her arc is the most popular during season 1 Being the last arc of season 1, it was her arc that began season 2 There is a typo in the original release of the game where Ayatsuji's name is written with the kanji 綾辻. The kanji 綾 has the same reading as the correct kanji: 絢. This typo is not present in the Ebikore+ release. They were done by tracing by the author, 12 years ago. The original mage they were traced from is the Amagami image posted just before the Touhou hijack Illustration by infinity slope Illustration by infinity slope (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/33691890) Illustration by shimizu takako (source: Image board) Art by inomata masami (source: image board) (more Touhou hijack lol) Illustration by hikikorosuzoware (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/8417414) This image actually works, given the backstory of Sanae and the fact she used to live in the outside world for a long time. In Episode 5, her ear bite on Junichi Tachibana's ear may be referenced to the series' title (Amagami means "nibble/gentle bite"). Kaoru is the only person who is not surprised when Tsukasa Ayatsuji shows her "dark side" to her classmates for the first time. In Amagami SS+ plus episode 13, they share an evil laugh. Kaoru defends Tsukasa Ayatsuji when she is being bullied by classmates. In Amagami SS+ plus it is revealed that she is a talented artist. She is close friends with Keiko Tanaka. She is a big fan of limited edition snacks It is revealed that her father is deceased prior to the events of the story Kaoru's least favorite season is winter and her favorite is summer. Kaoru's favorite word is "幸せ" meaning happiness. One of Kaoru's dream professions is beautician. Age: - 16 (Amagami SS) - 17 (Episode 20/Rihoko Sakurai arc Part 4 and Amagami SS+ Plus) Art bonus (spoiler because hotsprings - from the looks of it, seems to be rather official Amagami art - I am a little confused to be honest) -
The Amagami thread - an introduction to the cast
CountVonNumenor replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Human Village
Sure, I would definitely like to talk more about the series itself. However, I unfortunately don't know too much about it besides the short descriptions I read. I've been talking about Kaoru so much since she has been my entry point into the series, and pretty much the only thing I focused on. Maybe if I make one post containing a brief description and art/fanart for each of the girls in the series so that the public may become familiar with the rest of the cast? Otherwise, I guess this thread could have simply turned into "The Tanamachi Kaoru Thread". My problem is not really so much about finding time to watch Amagami (I can always find some time for something I like) as it is about finding a source that streams it online. I'm not used to watching anime online, so I don't know where to look for. But thank you quite a lot for the time managemt advice as well. My winter break begins in 3 weeks, and then I think I will have more time for anything I'd like to do. -

Honestly, I am not very sure what to else to add right now. Most likely, I will keep posting nice stuff until anyone else joins in the talk, so that I would actually have anything to say. But yes, she is very pretty, and quite kind too if I understood her description well. I mean I already quoted her personality traits, at least the way they are described on the wiki page for this series: As for (fan) art, here is more: Art by gofu (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/13587607) Art by irodori-classical (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/95461762) Art by takemi kaoru (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/40698598) Another drawing by takemi kaoru (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/44068487) Yet another drawing by takemi kaoru (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/24778535) Art by 薫風と共に去りぬ (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/100148810) Also drawn by takemi kaoru (source: https://twitter.com/TAKEMIKAORU/status/1553757393179119616 I guess the two of us have simple, similar tastes. It is not for nothing that people have made a number of comments about ignoring the body itself and focusing on the hair in the case of Tanamachi. "uhh... her body is down there" / "Generic female anime body, see it every other image. That hair though... that fucking hair is beautiful." (speaking in regards to an artistic nude image of Tanamachi on Danbooru) There is just something very feminine, seductive even about the kind of haircut, and for going further down my weakness, the color itself of the hair. Yeah, I think I will watch the anime adaptation one day... I just need to learn how I watch anime Art by takayama kisai (source: original source is dead, still stored on Danbooru https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/2554176?q=tanamachi_kaoru) Art by gouda hiroaki (source: "Image board" according to Danbooru) Bonus: surprising cross-over with Touhou (because at some point, anything ends up combined with Touhou) Art by tenemaru (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/18050890) -
There is also discussion the new Rhythm Mini-game will be added on JP soon this month. Given the pace in which Global has adopted stuff from JP, it is very possible the mini-game may come to Global in late December or early January next year. Or maybe the rule of quickly porting stuff to Global only applies to EFES/SFES banners and EX stages?

The Amagami thread - an introduction to the cast
CountVonNumenor replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Human Village
First of all, thank you a lot for replaying in this thread. for quite a bit, I felt I was the only one who was interested in this, or that everything I talked about was way too niche and unknown for everyone else so that only I would know what this is. That is perfectly fair. I am quite hesitant when it comes to this kind of games, but I would surely like to check out the adaptations one day. That video really made me quite interested in the anime version. It is also interesting how you adapt a game with multiple paths like a dating sim into an anime , and give enough attention to all routes. Maybe it is not something amazing for people more used to anime and overall Japanese media, but for me it is, especially since I am not very accustomed to this kind of media. From what I have seen, Amagami SS has one arc for each of the girls. From these, Tanamachi Kaoru and her story & interaction with Jun'ichi is covered in the second arc. But I would sure like to see how they dealt with everything in the spin-off adaptation. Oh, so you have watched the video clip? What else do you think about it? For me, it was a little bit of a surprise thy decided to give her a squishy voice. Maybe I was not expecting it, but it just make it more cute. Fanart by Takemi Kaoru (source: https://twitter.com/TAKEMIKAORU/status/1477051816114532353/photo/1) Fanart by danieri (source (2 versions): https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/76051870) Glad you can understand me. Without trying to be too pushy, what are your tastes? At least in terms of features in art. Because I really like some features when it comes to depiction in any form of art. Bonus: maybe not something very special compared to other anime, but there is an official excuse for fan-artists to depict Kaoru in swimwear. At least in the 1 piece kind of swimwear, since that one seems to have been featured in the anime. Again, not something special (since a lot of anime has the mandatory beach/hot springs episode at some point). Interesting though for me is the fact Kaoru has rather... average shapes compared to other anime where the artistic direction would have gone for "interesting" body types. From the official anime (source: Amagami wiki) Fanart by yoo tenchi (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/101249798) -
This is the off-topic section of the forum, I guess an off-topic thread works as well. This originally started as a series of comments in the anime art style thread, but I have decided to dedicate it a special thread where to port the info and some fanart I really like. And maybe talk a bit about it, just like I did with the Len'en thread. Therefore, get ready for me talking about something not Touhou-related: Some time ago, as I was randomly going through Pinterest, I randomly found this image: Due to a lack of context behind it, I just saved the image in a collection I have dedicated to nice-looking anime art style. Skip forward a few months, I found the character again as I was looking through the art galleries of Danbooru. At the time, I still did not really keep count of who she was, but I was happy to find the design again as I though she looks very pretty. This is an image I remember from back then: Art by takemi kaoru - source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/35052311 Following this, it seems like I forgot again about the discovery for a few months, until about a couple weeks ago. Again, I have rediscovered it through Danbooru, and this time it actually caught to me. That was the beginning of me starting a fall through another rabbit hole. Now to connect it with the original two posts from the anime art style thread. Another thing about anime art style. And quite a detour from the previous sub-topic (still open for discussion on that one though). Had I not been told this is the same character, I would have thought they are completely different ones. The style used can make quite a difference, and is one of the things I like a lot about art in general. Good connection with the overall topic since this is based on an anime: Artist: I think this is official material. Character - Tanamachi Kaoru from the video game Amagami (which was also turned into a manga spinoff series and anime, naturally) Artist: miura-n315 (https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/71716971) Artist: 薫風と共に去りぬ (https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/91641564) No matter the art style, this is awesome. I just very fond of young women with black, wavy, shoulder-leght haircuts. It is my weak point; also make the hair a bit fluffy, and I feel like in heaven. And now with this, you are also aware of my tastes, at least in terms of art (gonna be interesting to actually rest this in real life at some point...). Plus, who can resist a cute, wholesome smile? (Again, this looks very much like a screen capture from the anime adaptation of the game) Now, for some more info on what is going on (with the whole show, or at the very least this character; I ae no idea why I am suddenly feeling so attracted to the traits and features of the design...). I made a little bit of research in regards to Amagami. To my surprise (pleasant or not, I have yet to decide), the original game is... a dating sim. Also this is quite on topic with the latest Amagami-related product... which I was honestly not expecting to be an ASMR (Artist: takayama kisai - source: https://mimicle.com/lp/amagamiasmr) Danbooru takes the cake for the way to describe the series in their wiki section for Amagami: I do not necessarily hate the genre, but I am not the most fond of it either. I am feeling way too shy and easily flustered for even trying to play such a game, and maybe it is not my cup of tea. However, this Tanamachi girl has left a strong impression one me. I like the design - quite a lot actually, and like I have said further down the line in the post, she really fits into most of the design features (and overall physical appearance) details I like a lot. I think a series of comments on Danbooru for a not-so-safe art piece sum up very well the feeling given by the design: That moment there is a naked woman in front of you, but you decided to focus on her haircut than the body itself (can't blame anyone here, that haircut really seems like the defining physical feature of Tanamachi Kaoru, it really steals the show) Am I just slowly descending into madness? Down another rabbit whole of obsessions? This time, it is not about an entire series anymore, but just about a single element from a series. She (Tanamachi Kaoru) is very cute though, and that is something to probably appreciate, I guess... If I actually were to play the game, or read the manga/watch the anime, I would probably solely watch it to see her. Again, I am really fond of young women with black, wavy, shoulder-leght haircuts. It is my weak point; also make the hair a bit fluffy, and I feel like in heaven. And the art style in which she is depicted can sometimes make the whole difference. That is why in the previous comment, I posted a variety of images about her - some of them from the official anime adaptation, others from the various artists. Overall, I really like the dedication of Amagami fans, as they are still drawing their series even of the oldest drawing uploaded to Danbooru for example are almost 15 years now. (Imagine this was about 10 years ago...) Artist: takemi kaoru (source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/42937270) Bonus, more interesting content I have found about that series: A bit more of the cast from the game. Given it is a dating sim at origin, you sure can expect to have a lot of choices to pick from (Not pictured: probably like half of the girls) And I think here we have all of the girls from Amagami... (pictured: surprisingly, a rather canonical outfit of Tanamachi given one of her mundane tasks as a waitress) Artist: takayama kisai - original source dead, still maintained on Danbooru (https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/687156) Probably the actual, canonical waitress outfit... And now for some lore (you can't escape me without having served some lore...): General introduction (thanks to the Amagami wiki): Kaoru Tanamachi (棚町 薫 Tanamachi Kaoru) is one of main characters of Amagami SS and Amagami SS+ plus. She, along with Rihoko Sakurai, is a childhood friend of Junichi Tachibana and a student of Class 2-A with Junichi. Appearance: Kaoru has black, curly hair, black eyes, and an average bust size. She is described as "stylish" or "trendy". Personality: Kaoru is a tough and hardworking girl who is both lively and unpredictable. She also has a habit of teasing and hitting Junichi Tachibana at seemingly random moments. She is also the main target of Junichi's perversion and she is also seen with Masayoshi Umehara (Junichi's best friend). She works part-time as a waitress at a family restaurant and sometimes in other part-time jobs to help her mother maintain their ability as a two-person family to live independently. Consequently, she is totally against it when her mother dates another man. I will not spoil the rest, since most of the relevant stuff on the wiki comes from the endings of the game. I will not go into information about the anime either, as I think it would be better to be explored by everyone individually (I may do that at some point, perhaps). I will just leave a clip here though. I have not checked it yet, but I think it will not create any problems around (also spoiler for potential spoilers - again, I am not so sure if it is an actual spoiler, or just a moment selected by the user because it looked funny/cute in the anime): EDIT: Now I actually know what is going on in that video. The action in the video may seem like it's going one direction, given the way it is built up and if you are to go according to steretypes, but the twist turns it into wholesome at the end. What I was surprised of though was the...squishy voice they gave Tanamachi. I'm not sure what I should have expected, but this one sure was a surprise when put next to the design itself. Alright, so har far gone am I down the rabbit hole? I think this is the first time when I get interested in just a character from a series, and not the series as a whole. I just really like the design, and can always appreciate good fanart of any character. This is one of those perfect instances I kept mentioning in the past of how good fanart of a character can actually make you interested in a series. I may be one of those "posers"/"fake fans", only brought in for the waifu/cute young women part of the thing, but screw it. But in a way, I guess it works, given the nature of the source material (a dating sim game). I think I will try watch the anime at least one day. (Also reminder I have to write a thread soon enough about what makes one a Touhou fan, so see you there in terms of new content)

Looks like it is time for another news roundup. The only way I cans sum up things is the good, the bad and the ugly: News and updates First of all, Global will be going through another maintenance on Friday, 2nd December. Let's see what the game has to bring us: Wriggle is making her debut as a playable character in Global. Now I guess we have every General pool unit MOF Suwako retro is getting a rerun Ringo is getting her Fantasy Rebirth Event EX unlocked - nothing new, as this is a rerun of the same event from one year ago Gensokyo Tales of Fantasy continues - a note from last week: this event is the one that unlocks you the manga bits that have been announced. Complete a few daily missions, gain points and use them to unlock each of the 16 manga pages. They are 4koma comics, in a pretty chibi style, each of them a new slice-of-life story revolving around the world and mechanics of LostWord from an in-universe perspective Fumo campaign continues Now, time to move to the news regarding LostWord JP. Oh boy, there is quite a bit to chew... Beginning with the prettier part. New Christmas outfits for Shizuha, Chimata, Misumaru, Aunn, Suwako and Kanako. I really like the one for Tenkyuu, and I will most likely get it just because I like the character and like the vibe it goes for. More outfits, this time Fantasy Rebirth costumes for Shizuha and Minoriko. Just one question: is it just me, or Minoriko looks even more THICC than usual? I mean I first saw it done in Hina Chan's Big Trade Millionnaire (thank you, Mizusoba art style) with the exposed thighs, but now... wow. Also funny how the younger sister is the one with the bigger rack, even if that was already established in the default art of her. Is it a common thing in Minoriko fanart? I mean I can understand the idea she is a goddess of plentiful harvest, therefore why generous shapes. And likely I would believe you if you told me why that is the explanation... (bonus: the Mizusoba version of Minoriko) Probably the best quote coming out of the whole moment in regards to how the chat reacted when this Minoriko appeared in the Hina game: "Hina is hungry and the chat is thirsty" Well, JP is doing it now. Fantasy Rebirth is coming for SFES units. And as seen the first 3 characters to receive it shall be exactly the first 3 SFES characters introduced - Red Marisa, Black Youmu and Loli Yuyuko. I am not even sure what to say about this one... I guess that is why we recently had banners for multiple SFES characters in one place? From discussion I have seen, these are expected to come at the time of JP's third anniversary. BATTLESHIP KANAKO INCOMING! On a more serious note, apparently the next Relic FES unit is going to be a version of Kanako. I am not familiar with the music videos, so I have no idea what the gimmick about this Kanako is or what makes her unique besides the use of Relic Paper Dolls. Together with that MV Kanako banner, a new music video has also been announced featuring Suwako. So get ready for yet another Relic character to come into the game eventually... There is also a new Retro unit coming. This time, it is EOSD Rumia. Looks like the game is back at milking EOSD Two new SFES units have been announced. I am not very sure about this one. Given the style of the costumes, I guess we are getting a continuation of the Hifuu story? Also, besides giving them maid outfits and literally just swapping the color of the hair between Orin and Okuu, I see nothing very special. But I can guess two things: 1) they will be very strong units (power-creep maybe), and that their banners will be released separately. "They refuse to release Red Sanae to the point of introducing characters who are COMPLETELY new before they appear in the story lmao, not even the slightest reference of them, I assume they're S2 Satori's pets but like, bruh they're gonna release Red Sanae for the anni as a new rarity or something" (u/Kdog8273) "Now we're getting new SFES who haven't even appeared in the main story period. I do like their designs, but yet again, they have literally no presence in the story. Did JP confirm more main story? If they dont have any new main story in December, that would be around 4 whole months of no new main story. Starting to think that they stopped caring about main story." (u/TraditionalCycle6279) Community discussions and memes This weeks, it seems like I finally have what to talk about and share with you. There have been some interesting discussions worth bringing up: Actually a good question, especially if one wants to build a chart regarding the interactions of MC-chan with everyone in Gensokyo and beyond. Even if it's quite possible the answer would simply be "Everyone because its a trope in gacha games" as u/D3ppress0 has pointed out. But on a more serious note, I guess the interaction/relation with the sages, as well as the totally-not-simping on Sakuya would probably be some of the most relevant. Or even just Reimu, given the fact MC was allowed to stay at the Hakurei Shrine for... how long did she actually stay in L1 Gensokyo before getting snatched into the Summer Beach Realm? Was it a few hours? Maybe days at most? As we were still meeting Gensokyo inhabitant when Chapter 3.5 happened. Alright, another interesting discussion, still focused on MC-chan. The idea it goes for is interesting, as we still have absolutely no idea what "Lossy" is or how she looks like (or we know is that she is a girl, or at least the fact she belongs to the feminine world). I mean a lot of expectations have already been crushed when the very same Chapter 3.5 I talked about in the past paragraph revealed MC is a little girl (WHAT WERE THEY THININKING?!), when everyone was expecting her to be around the same age as Reimu and Marisa. Yet another theory in regards to MC-chan. I see there has been a lot of interest for her reignited recently in terms of fan discussions. [LOSSY INTENSELY BLUSHING IN THE BACKGROUND] Time to move into the memes. Oh boy, there's quite a few of them this time... Is Sagume trying to imply something here? I can't remember if this this is a legit quote or someone edited it in, although I may have a rough memory of something akin to that line at some point in the game. Average Phantasma simp be like No, Hecatia, don't do the no-no hand gesture...! Come on, we all really want to see that PC-98 stuff. Why is LW trying to stay so far from it? I think most of us want more than just mere cutscenes. We want to actually be able to play as these characters, and I do have a list of PC-98 characters I would be interested to get in my collection. Closing thoughts This thread is slowly becoming more and more tedious for me to maintain. I like covering the news, but I felt like slowly having started to lose interest again in this game. I was extremely dedicated to it back in spring, but after the end of July-early August and debut of Chapter 4, I felt like something broke for me, and the game lost its magic. However, I will probably keep this going as I have nothing better to do, and someone really does need to keep a log about what is happening in LW and the other Touhou gacha/mobile games. If not me, then who else? There was no discussion on the topic until I arrived, and latest one was from July last year. Therefore, it has become a mission of sorts for me to keep people updated in a digestible way about these games...

It's bee a while since I last updated this, and am slowly feeling less and less inclined to do so anymore. however, it is my job, so here we go: News and updates Maintenance is due to begin in a few hours. A few new things seem to be coming: - Relic FES Sakuya banner will appear - 150 free prayers - I guess we are getting 10 free prayers daily for the following couple weeks - Gensokyo Tales of Fantasy - I am not very sure what this is, but I do not thin it will be an event due to the following - Seiga Nyan Nyan Social Club is back - due to the lack of details and rather low image resolution compared to general, not fully sure if it is a rerun of last year's event, or it will be a "Part 2" - more banners for FES friends - more Fantasy Rebirth - guaranteed friend and story card pool will be updated While Global has Relic Sakuya announced, it seems like JP is going to have another Relic, this time being Satori. o, we have: L1 Satori, retro Satori, UFES Satori, and now Relic Satori. If you are a fan of the older Komeiji sister, I guess you are lucky: And to keep it in the JP area, they also showed a new alt character: Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/touhou_lostword/comments/z1pmxf/jp_spoilers_new_alt_character/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 Community discussion and memes I really do not have what to write about this week, sorry. Just someone who really likes Momiji.

Oh, do not worry about that. I think all of us have something to vent out eventually. In a way, that even is one of the reasons why I started this thread to begin with. Looking to let out some of my negative feelings, and try to understand some things I am still very confused about. Also I wish you good luck with your case. It looks like an extremely delicate situation, and I am not very sure what would the best course of action be sadly. But I guess whatever makes you happy would be the best option. Anyway, I really hope the conclusion reached will be amiable for both of you. Also, please excuse my lack of decency, but how old does it happen for you to be? In my case, as I may have already declared through different threads, I am 20.

News and updates Seems like things have changed a little bit since my last post here. Now, we have a better view on the maintenance coming this Friday: Some of the more remarkable things: - Beach Marisa Epic FES banner - new EX stage related to Epic FES Hecatia - Fantasy Rebirth - daily presents - a lot of gifts (after all, Christmas is coming...) Most of this information is stuff I am pretty much regurgitating from last week's update on the Del Letter, just updated to the current situation.
-
De Letter dropped earlier than expected. Therefore, here is a summary of what was talked about (besides Caroline looking to present her "happy news"): News and updated A lof of new content coming up on Global through November: Now, let's get into detail. Just like last time, I will split it into characters and then events. Beach Reimu is coming on the 11th November, followed by Beach Marisa on the 18th. Both of them are Epic Fes units. However, the difference this time is the following: units can be sparked after 400 prayers (2000 SCs), and you can pity them only once. As far as we are aware, this feature is exclusive for the Global version of LostWord. On the 25th November, we are also getting MV Sakuya. I don't really have anything to say about her... Wriggle and Eternity Larva are coming in late November - early December. For anyone interested to complete their Team 9, this will be your chance. And with the upcoming event (it looks like nurses 2, electric boogaloo and with Tengu), there are also new skins. There were people to notice this is the first skin Momiji gets since her introduction in the game. Also new Fantasy Rebirth skins Now, on to the events themselves... Like I have mentioned earlier, there are some changed when it comes to the Epic prayer. Pity is finally an option, only available on the Global version. More content coming for the Scarlet Devil Tower. Meanwhile, I have not gone any further but Floor 45... New mechanic will be added: Overdamage. I think the image explains it better than I ever could. Story cards setup will be saved during Auto Replay. Wait, does that imply story cards were not counted until now? We are about to see the debut of the LostWord manga. It may not be at the same level of Genshin Impact to receive its own studio anime, but at least it is more than nothing. I do have some slight curiosity to see how this will turn out. From the previous images presented, it seems like being either a 4koma style manga, or there are just 4 panels per page and there are multiple pages. New enemies added to the Hakugyoku Arena Fantasy Rebirth 2.0 for more characters. I wonder when will the next batch get those extra buffs, and if they will be actually useful or just a waste of resources for barely any extra effects... New Story Cards coming from the Epic and Relic Fes prayers and from another CBT session EX stage grind. I think the first two will be added into the pool at some point in the future, so I don't think there is an urge to get them right now. Since we are in anniversary period, prayers and banners can't be missing. From UFES to Retro and Forever Prayer, there in anything for everyone in the upcoming month. Hey, one more excuse not to spend Seal Crystals for 15 days. Seems like a good chance to gather more resources for whatever else may require them. On the 26th October, I was talking about the announcement of the new rhythm mini-game. Just before the Dev Letter, I was telling @sodaodaoda there is a high chance for the stream to also mention this new feature, and it seems like I was right. All we can do no is hope it will be good. On a more miscellaneous note, ZUN decided to work even more with the developers of the game. This time, I guess a campaign in which people have the chance to win some merch with the signature of our favorite beer-loving creator (and totally not god) ZUN. Overall, here is the timeline for all the things to be added in the following month Community discussion and memes Actually quite a bit this time around: Remi and Patchy are back to presenting the news, a tiny bit more energetic then before. If you want to see more of them, do not worry, there's more to come. For some context: "Caroline being so happy but literally most of the chat during the stream was not happy while the Epic FES characters were being shown lmao. If you watched the latest dev letter, Caroline presented HAPPY Videos and those are the beach Epics and stuff" Again, Scarlet Talk is a creation of Kakashi Spirit News and can be found here People are talking whether Touhou LW is a fitting game for a gacha player to get into. From the looks of the thread, it seems as if the original post is not familiar with the Touhou franchise, which seems to create them confusion especially in regards to the very large cast This animation has been running around on YouTube for a while, especially since it was brought from bilibili to the English speaking world by Moriya Salesman. From the looks of it, even as a non-affiliated product, might have come in the early days before or just after the release of LostWord: And last, but not least, a meme depicting the Dev Letter aftermath (RIP those who invested in White Koishi and Small Satori):

Probably some more news roundup: News and updates There will be a new Dev Letter coming to Global in the following days. Apparently, some big stuff has been announced for the international version of the game: We have confirmation for the following two banners on JP. They will be Blue Mokou and Paripi Koumei Tewi: Community discussion and memes Just a meme video this time... News roundup will most likely return following the Dev Letter on the 11th November

It's been almost a week since I last delivered the news roundup: News and updates Maintenance is coming in a matter of hours on LW Global. Among the main things we are going to get are the EX stages of current Halloween event, as well as some new units among which Kagerou and Wakasagihime: Community discussions and memes It looks like the Scarlet Talk is back. This time, Remi and Patchy are up to talking about the wonders of... Discord. Or maybe should I call it shenanigans? The two of them were so gentle they even gave us some of the deleted content that did not make it into Scarlet Talk #6: Like always, you can find our colleagues from Scarlet Talk here: Closing thoughts It is wonderful to know DanKagu will stay alive, even if in a new form. Let's hope this one will actually have a longer life, and will reach a larger audience. I think making it a 1-time purchase game might have been the solution from the very beginning. And I guess using the same model as for Spell Bubble. Unless the new DanKagu will also get into the idea of paid DLCs for new content and song packs (god, I miss the days when downloadable content for games you bought was actually free, and only full-on expansions for games were to be paid for)...

The nature of Gensokyo? Tone of Touhou?
CountVonNumenor replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in General Touhou
I have nothing to say right now but this random meme I found: -
I have to apologize for yet another mistake. Through the thread, I have wrongly announced the EoS for DanKagu to be October 25th. However, it seems like it is actually October 27th, which is today (or whatever is left of today, since it is Thursday, 27th October 2022, 23:21 when I am writing this). Therefore, the game had a couple more days to live before the shutdown. I guess the final thing we could do is enjoy the final hours of the game, and not be sad because it is over, but be happy it even happened: Huh, I have seen that Omikuji in the past. I think they are counted by the wiki in the "Miscellaneous ZUN drawings" article. The descriptions for each are actually very cool. I guess it is a neat detail on the side of the artist who decided to integrate them into the game. BONUS: apparently, ZUN drank a lot of beer though the JP Dev Letter livestream
-
With a slight delay due to an overcharged beginning of the week and lack of energy as a result, the news roundup is only coming out now. News and updates Just like Isaac pointed out, JP Dev Letter has announced a great variety of content. At the same time, just a couple days prior, we also had a Dev Letter for Global. Therefore, I will go through Global first, then get into what JP has to offer to the players: 1) If I am to use the summaries done by r/touhou_lostword, probably the easiest way would be to split everything into character and event releases. Anyway, in terms of characters, White Koishi makes her way into Global as an EPIC FES, while Little Satori will be Ultra FES. 2) Kagerou and Wakasagihime are also making their global debut, which only brings us closer to having the full roster of L1 Gensokyo characters. And they are not alone, as they also come with costumes. I still wonder what will the evet be if they ended up swapping clothes between the Grassroots Youkai... 3) The already released Halloween costumes for Remilia and Yoshika will soon be accompanied by that for Eirin, Tojiko and Hatate, part of this year's Halloween event: (is it just me, or Tojiko's pose has always looked like in the "I guess you are like little pogchamp" meme? And I mean ever since ZUN came up with her art from Ten Desires) 4) Now moving to the events, Global will have a bunch of stuff in the following weeks. First off, the head of the banner this time around is Gensokyo of the Dead. Makes sense, given Halloween is less than a week from us. Apparently, the event will also reward you if you grind enough resources into it. Or at least if you are lucky enough to win the lottery... 5) Scarlet Devil Tower is receiving new content. Maybe this time we can get closer to how much JP does. My question is however - is any of this newly released content translated? Given all the promises we are going to get translations, it looks as if the team doing it works at the pace of a wheeled hamster having to supply electricity for entire building. And let's not talk about the story cards which still need translation from over half a year ago already... 6) More characters are being moved to the General pool. Does this mean there is an even greater chance for the Festival category of friends to disappear? I was talking about this possible switch in categories for at least a few months already, yet it seems to be slowly happening, at least in the case of L1 Gensokyo characters. FES would disappear or only be used for the retro units, UFES would become the new FES, Epic FES would become as common as the former UFES units, and Relic... well, it's Relic, it does whatever the hell it wants. 7) Time for Touhou LW to feel proud about participating at the Autumn Reitaisai back during the weekend (hey, at least I think we got like 15 SCs out of that ordeal): 8) Finally, we can sip grinding for the Mirrors and just get the results. If only we could get the same for story cards too. The multi-skip should have also been the way of doing regular farming, not waste hours in auto battles. Like the way you do the errands, but instead it farms resources and cards. So no more having your phone locked for hours in auto-play battles. 9) I guess Touhou LW is getting a manga of its own. Well, if we can't get an anime like Genshin does, at least that. However, I see the creators are not too subtle when it comes to the message even if we are to talk just about these 4 panels: 10) This Ultra FES thing is coming back. I think we had it at least once more in the past. 11) Everybody Wins (yay). Some GCs ae always good, and a chance for Fumo is a chance for a Fumo. Oh wait, these are the big ones. Well, at least the Seal and God Crystals will be a good addition... 12) There is also some news regarding the EFES unit. If we are to judge from this, apparently we are back to getting 100 free prayers, after we though that feature was removed for good: 13) And after praising the devs for something slightly not so bad, here comes the bad part, Another EX stage, quite likely tailored for a new EPIC/ULTRA unit to make it easier. The reward id this story card I am not too sure how good it is, The only thing I know is that this is the first time I am familiar with the artist, Suzuka Kyouka - or the way I know her better, the creator of the "Touhou Drip Month" (each day of March 2021 had a Touhou girl dressed in some cool street clothes I could only describe as "drip" at the time): 14) Just for a login bonus, Global 1.5 Anniversary is providing 36 SCs to collect through 5 days: With that, we are closing the Global section, and now are moving the focus to the JP area: 1) Just one day after Danmaku Kagura officially died, the following announced dropped on r/touhou_lostword: the announced new game mode, “Reimu’s Great Exorcism”, will be a rhythm mini-game. The reactions to this announcement have been varied. While some consider it to be a new way to keep people playing and are hyped about it, others see it as a spit on the grave of DanKagu, especially given the moment it was announced and some of the visuals/interface elements: 2) Just as Isaac pointed out, there is a new batch of costumes announced for LW Japan, which will come at some point in the future. From the looks of it, they are all cooking-related. I really like the Eiki one, even if it took me a bit to realize it is her dressed like that (I guess the red clothes - red hair combination made me first think of Yuuka, given that Eiki is more quickly associated with her blue and black (or back and whit if you want to take it in accordance to the theme) 3) The Prismriver sisters are finally getting their Fantasy Rebirth outfits. They look quite cute, I will not lie. 4) Time for JP to deal with another Relic unit. This time, it is a Mokou, from a music video I am not sure if it was already released or not (I am really not keeping track of all the official Touhou LW music videos) 5) Yet another Mokou alt. Now we can no longer make jokes about Shion being "Blue Mokou", because HOLY MOTHER OF SEAL CUBES there is an actual Blue Mokou. The Paripi Koumei style (are we now starting to milk other IPs... I mean inspire from other IPs in terms of what glorified skins unit alts to make?) Tewi is actually interesting though (I am still not for EFES units, but I like the outfit itself). Anyway. More units we barely have story for because there hasn't been new main story in what feels like months! Coming November 7th. 6) HOLY MOTHER OF SEAL CUBES x2, they are actually here. Well, they were inevitable, but still. Why in the world are we getting these? They could have very well be skins, but the game decided ever since Summer Yukari to make them separate units, and of an actual different tier of rarity with not chance for pity. Anyway, Summer Reimu and Marisa, everyone: Community discussion and memes Mostly memes this week. There are a couple that really caught my attention: They have even introduced some puns into the voice lines for Tenkyuu herself... Instead of just the image, I have inserted the whole thread. Why? Because the titles perfectly tied into the images themselves. Closing thoughts We failed, DanKagu is no more. I am sorry to end this up on a sad note. Not too much to say today otherwise.

Why are Touhou fans seemingly so thirsty?
CountVonNumenor replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Misty Lake
Never say that. Usually, these are the final words before someone is about to be wrong. Still hope you may be right though. R34 in itself has the following form: "if it exists, there will be porn of it, no exception", and R35 continues: "if there is no porn of it, it shall be done". -
News roundup time. A bit shorter this time as most of the important stuff got already covered: News and updates JP has just announced two new units. Unless there is any sign for a Yuuma release, it means this is the end of the Windows era cast. They actually did it... the cast has been exhausted. From now on, it is either shifting focus towards PC-98 (just as likely to happen as Half-Life 3), or just create new alts. I guess we will have to expect new EFES and Relic FES from now on, since these are the only ones that still have content to release. While regular FES is slowly getting merged with the General pool. Retro is also possible, but we know nothing new besides the the A7 Yuyuko. Only EFES are clear because Chapter 4, while Relic FES because they have to go through all music videos. Anyway, get ready for Sannyo and Tsukasa (obviously they are separate banners): Community discussion and memes Apparently another Dev Letter will take place, and Patchy & Remi are looking into what may come out of it: Just another day in the world of gacha pulls: Man, the story creators really implied the idea MC-chan may have a crush on Sakuya. However, they also shot themselves in the foot when they decided to turn her into a small child (and confirmed it) during Chapter 3.5. Which ruins a little bit the double meaning of this meme: Closing thoughts As I am writing this, it is already 20th October 2022. Just 5 more days, and DanKagu will close forever. Even if I never touched that game, and cannot 100% confirm I would have enjoyed it even if we had a global released, I still feel very sad about its shut down. As if I lost someone who was dear to me. My feelings would probably be mixed of LostWord suddenly decided to shut down tomorrow, but DK really got me a strong feeling. I am always getting mad when I look at even the tiniest character animation, let along an entire animated dialogue cutscene from DanKagu. Not only that the characters were moving and felt more lively, but the artstyle for them was also extremely cute. This is probably one of the greatest losses for me, since no other Touhou (at least mobile) game really wants to go that animation route. LostWord's dialogue cutscenes are as interesting and awkward as a PowerPoint presentation, and I have no idea what Arcadia Record is doing with their characters since nobody talks about that game. Imagine the fact these characters were really moving in the cutscene, and this was not just me posting a simple screenshot (actually, you do not have to imagine anything; here is an animated cutscene - credit to the person who uploaded this to YouTube) Before I get into some more opinions, I will leave here the recent video from Suwawako. I already posted here his videos about Cannonball and LostWord, and now he also covered DanKagu just to have the trilogy of famous Touhou mobile games: Since I did not have the chance to play the game, I will let other people try analyze what went wrong with it: "I've played the game and I can say that TO ME, some other factors caused its failure were 1) its music game part feels generally odd and out of place compared to PJSK and Arcaea or those excellent mobile music games and there were several fatal bugs at the early launch that caused missing notes which u don't suppose to. And that lost those core music gamers to drop out. 2) the chart design is lame, every chart was almost the same. some will stand out but not many. it's not bad but there was nothing exciting and ngl this problem was kinda solved AFTER their announcement of stopping maintaining the game. 3) I don't think only doing Touhou songs is the problem, the problem is that the songs they chose are just not thrilling to a music game and that kinda connects to problem 2 yet still they could come up with better charts when they didn't. Those are kinda regarding the gameplay and they are important to me. I very enjoyed the game but because of those I kinda AFK now". "So the reason this game failed is because it's just an Touhou skin of already existing games with the same mechanics. There are many Touhou fangames out there who are "Touhou versions" of other Popular games, but what make them interesting is how the mechanics translate to Touhou universe." "Aquastyle was such a good developer. I really enjoy the game only spending my time and zero cash... and that should been a red flag. They failed catching whales/"hard-content" consumers cuz there was not such thing. The lack of making you spend money in the game for gameplay 0 cosmetics was good for the player but a bad decision for the life of DK. And no, it's not about being a "greedy gacha game" it's being profitable... At least GoodSmile recognizes the flawless point of their game and makes money with their merch, probably the reason why NextNinja can't go all in with LW development." "As a long time veteran of both Touhou and gacha rhythm games I have a few opinions on this. 1) The game was in competition with too many other games, not just gacha rhythm games like: Idolmaster, bang dream, Hatsune Miku, etc. , but also other Touhou games, but even deeper than that, a plethora of Touhou based rhythm games, such as Spell bubble. It found itself in two small niches that were already over saturated: Touhou gacha games and Touhou rhythm games 2) The Touhou community is more hostile towards gacha than most anime/game communities. 3) Bringing no new characters into the mix because it's a derivative work means fans have no cool new units to look forward to, which is killer to a gacha. We can only be excited for getting a Chen so many times. 4) No compelling story as we go and meet the same characters we've seen hundreds or times over the years. 5) Touhou community too far spread to gather around one thing like fate fans can over FGO, and at the budget they went for, they needed a bigger concentrated chunk of fans to gather a round it to sustain a live service." "Why bother with a generic flat design Touhou gacha rhythm game when I can play Muse Dash or Touhou Spell Bubble? It has better HUD, you can select the unlocked characters with in game animations, and you can add extra songs as DLC (Touhou collabs works wonderful here). Or even better, have secrets inside the gacha system like Trombone Champion. To make a successful gacha game, is doing something unique and dont copy paste other repetitive rhythm games" Anyway, with DanKagu shutting down, what should we expect next? Will we, the scrubs not willing/being able to spend a single penny on a Touhou official/fan game, have anything else left to play an have the Touhou theme slapped all over it? LostWord seems to be following the same path once the producers realize they have no new idea what to introduce? They already do seem to be slowly running out of ideas. And to make it a coincidence, we are now getting a second back-to-back event rerun (last time when 2 successive events were reruns on Global was apparently back in spring). And once Chapter 4 will be over, what should we expect next? Will there be any new content? There are already discussions behind the corner that LW is not doing so hot, and that we may expect an EoS announcement at some point. So buckle up, these sure are interesting times. Just please, don't show me an of the cute DanKagu animated characters at least for the time being, because I don't think I will be able to handle it. It is already bad the game is going down, I don't want to be reminded again what we have lost. Although I will probably do it myself, just because I may have masochistic tendencies. On this depressing note, I dont really know when will the next news roundup be. Nothing new is happening, and it feels ever more tedious to just spend anywhere between 30 minutes - 1 hour just for writing one of those updates. It was fun when I started, but now I feel like the drive is slowly doing down since the source material is barely giving me anything exciting to write about. Not even getting Chimata (and basically finally completing my top 10 Touhou waifu collection) made me more excited for the game. This does not mean the end of the news roundup (and by extension of this thread). I took a commitment to keep updating this, so I guess I will keep being around for at least making this thread be 1 year of continuous discussion (which should be in March next year).

What do you think about Akatsuki Records?
CountVonNumenor replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Music
I was right, there was indeed new content t coming now with Reitaisai nearby. Huh, I think this is the first time Akatsuki Records music only comes in the firs of audio, without an accompanying music video. Also probably the first time we are getting a double upload instead of a video batch coming at a two days/one week distance between them. To me, this only further raises a few questions. Especially because of the fact the Medicine song (I stil do not know what its English name is - no Tsubasa Cat subtitles this time, sorry - unless we go by "Anoko go hoshii"), as well as as the full album it came from where already uploaded on the channel of Ridzuto 4 days ago. Does this make him even more likely to be something close to an officially connected person to Akatsuki Records? Given that (besides a couple albums at the beginning) he has the entire discography of the group, as well as hosting their very first music video ever done, Endless Fantasy, which was uploaded on his YouTube page back in 2014. Is there something I am missing? -
Artists migrating towards other series
CountVonNumenor replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Human Village
Honestly, my big problem is not as much about people leaving Touhou fanat to gacha fanart as it is Touhou giving the feeling there are less people taking up art and dedicating to our series. Even though we still do have a lot of good artists, I guess we just cannot compete against mainstream titles anymore... or can we still? I can't lie about the fact I am feeling a little butthurt. Either because our community has lost some high quality artists, or for other reasons I'd prefer not to specify in a general chat regarding...some kinds of art being given to that series when they could very well be done for Touhou. It would be nice if Touhou managed to attract new promising artists like those other series do. But I guess that's the problem when you are not a mainstream franchise
