  1. It has been a hot moment since I last watched a form TV shows since I been more into literature and gaming lately. But if I had to make list, it would be: FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and Wakfu. They all happen to be shows where I could convince my friend to watch them to me, which might be a sight bias considering my friends' theories on the characters are usually "out there".
  2. Welcome! I get that same feeling with speaking to other people, through that mainly comes with introducing a topic. But I find it easier to speak to others if I know some detail about the other person as to talk about that specific detail. That what introducations are for! Let's try a question to add details to your introduction. "What is your favorite Touhou character and why?" I find answers to this questions to be typically unique.
  3. Hello! Welcome to the Touhou community! I like to ask you, “What form of medium do you enjoy the most for media?” There a diverse amount of Touhou content out there, both official and as fanwork, ranging from games, literature, music, and art. For now, I recommend Perfect Cherry Blossom (PCB) and Wild and Horned Hermit (WaHH) as excellent starters to the series. PCB is a STG game with little in the way of extra mechanics, while still offering the core danamku experience Touhou fans have come to love about the series. As for the other work, WaHH is a printwork that features the experiences of a hermit, Kasen, as she first introduces herself at the Hakurei Shrine. I like this work since it features a good quality of original content while still giving time to other Touhou characters within the series.
  4. I think that the Witch of Scarlet Dreams from LostWord.
  5. In terms of visitors who visited the Hakurei Shrine often or stayed there for an extended period of time, we should also add in the Three Fairies of Light, Yukari, Kasen, Clownpiece. Sukuna, and Shion in addition to Marisa, Aunn, and Suika. Now, if we talking about Hakurei Shrine visitors in general, that is going to be hard to figure out with how long the Hakurei Shrine has been an important location for Gensokyo but let's try anyway. Every character in IaMP count as visitors since every story ends with them going to the Hakurei Shrine to resolve the incident with Suika, who would end up in a drinking party due to Suika's density abilities. This adds Sakuya, Patchouli, Remilia, Alice, Youmu, and Yuyuko. In IN's extra story prologue, princess Kaguya shows up on her own to Reimu and co. to tell them to take on the trial of guts, otherwise known as Mokou Fujiwara. Aya has obviously already visited the shrine already due to her reporting. Still, here's Reimu's article from BAiJR showing Aya reporting on a flower viewing party at the Hakurei Shrine. Can't forget about Rei'sen! She stayed at the Hakurei Shrine after being injured from her crash landing on Earth as seen in SSiB ch2. For SWR, Komachi, and Iku can count as new visitors to the shrine, through at the time they could only see the destroyed home of Reimu. We all know that Tenshi destroyed the shrine, but we also need to count the crew of celestials that helped rebuild the Hakurei Shrine as seen in SWR Reimu ending. Orin stayed at the Hakurei Shrine for some time after being caught by Yukari during SA Reimu Ending. During the events of HM, Byakuren, Miko, Ichirin, Futo, and Mamizou all visited the Hakurei Shrine during the course of their religious fighting. Of course, we must include the audience for the shrine, which uniquely includes Ran, Chen, and a fairy maid Remilia brought over. During the events of ULiL, Mokou, Koishi, and Sumireko all fought at the shrine thanks to the Urban Balls that Sumireko brought into Gensokyo. For AoCF, Joon visited the Hakurei Shrine after cleaning up their mess as shown in Joon & Shion ending Lily White showed up at the shrine to tell that spring has come as a midboss for HSiFS stage 3. At WaHH ch8, a youkai fox slipped into the Hakurei Shrine due to its interest in the shrine's parties. During WaHH ch16, we can see Momiji, Nitori, Kyoko, Mystia, and Yuuka come to a flower party at the shrine. During that same chapter Sanae shows up at the shrine during the aftermath of the party. During FS ch42-ch43, Kosuzu sets up a one hundred ghost story reading event at the Hakurei Shrine, which in addition to Kosuzu, we can find Akyuu participating in the event. As an bonus, we can also find Kokoro dancing at the event as well. Misumaru can be directly seen talking to Reimu about yin-yang orbs during UM Reimu Alt ending. Satori visited the Hakurei Shrine during her work, and Mizuchui visited the Hakurei Shrine when she processed Marisa during the events of FDS ch5. Zanmu, Yachie, Saki, and Yuuma all celebrated at the Hakurei Shrine to celebrate avoiding large-scale conflict with the animals and Gensokyo as seen in UDoALG Zanmu ending. As I have said before, tracking every Touhou character appearances is quite difficult when spread across the games and printworks. My list isn't inclusive of everyone, but it goes to show how many people have been to the Hakurei Shrine despite the common statement that Reimu's shrine is usually empty of any visitors. Really, we should be asking who hasn't been confirmed to have visited the Hakurei Shrine at all. Pretty sure that Momoyo hasn't taken a trip to the Hakurei Shrine...
  6. They look like a cute bushes!
  7. With the recent announcement of a second BBEX international, it reminded me that I actually had some content from the Latin American Touhou community that can count as lost media. 東方 Project-Venezuela Mega Link: https://mega.nz/#!xYhElAyZ!qS9EaEx4p2TZEF7RMcS8wW8HEBctj5a4pnEufgKOZgo Bunbunmaru Forums Link: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/bunbunmaru/zea-mays-project-venezuela-artbook-t6884.html Tumblr Link: https://nesarts.tumblr.com/post/158707452009/zeamaysdoujin-hi-everyone-heres-a-little? This is an artbook by released by doujin circle Zea Mays featuring illustrations of Venezuelan-themed Touhou girls. Unfortunately, the Mega link to download the pdf no longer works, so this fanbook has become lost media. And for future reference, the other works of Zea Mays can be found on their Facebook page. From the video game to the convention: the representation of the Yokai and the impact of the Touhou Project on popular culture Abstract: https://www.ccsu.edu/squid-game-conference/conference-speakers-and-abstracts#heading-108131 Schedule: https://www.ccsu.edu/squid-game-conference/conference-schedule Yes, that long title describes a Touhou academic talk by Brenda Marina Ayala Estrada, coming from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, who gave this talk at "Squid Game" & Beyond, a hybrid international conference about the impact of Squid Game. The relation of the Touhou talk to Squid Game seems to be on the impact of video games on Asian cultures based on the talk's placement on the schedule for Panel 112: Video Games. As for traces of this conference, the best I can find is a video by Bloomfield Public Library, which records the first day of the conference. But I have skimmed through that video multiple times and I could not see anything for a Touhou talk, so unless I missed something in skimming through the recording, this academic talk is lost media. 8. Yes! The formatting looks better, but I still have more critiques. Description should be separate from titles. Take a look at this part of the Lost Media List: Now, here is my take on it (pretend line spacing is single, since Moriya Shrine's text editor doesn't appear to have a way to change line spacing.) Feels must easier to tell which information is going to for each entry. We should also fix the capitalization for the headers such as "Lost found other media". It should be "Lost Other Media" which not only follows standard English capitalization rules, but also makes the headers look different from description. Aside from these suggestions, just more consistent formatting needs to be applied to the rest of the list. Otherwise, good work with working to include format work with the list. Presentation of information is as important as the information itself!
  9. こころ劇場 (Kokoro Gekijo) by NullPointerWorks Game Website: http://nullpointerworks.blog.fc2.com/ NicoNico Trailer: https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm36115333 A boss rush game featuring Kokoro as the main character while performing in front of an audience. There doesn't appear to be much public footage left online since everyone did not save their NicoNico livesteam playthroughs, through people on Twitter did post screenshots and their feedback. However, it appears this that NullPointerWorks did not consign this game digitally though sites like DLsite, thus this game has become hard to obtain without getting a physical disc. Lost & Found by Miluda Sample: https://web.archive.org/web/20171004143155/https://prismi.ca/ Featuring English lyrics, this is the only doujin music released by Miluda. There have not been any reprints of the single, so this sample online currently remains as the only public way to listen to the single.
  10. The biggest issue facing the readability of the Lost Media List is inconsistent formatting. Pick a single format, and readability shall increase. Here my visual design of my suggestions. - - - Lost Effort Lost Effort - - - Separate the words by their functions. Use different colors to signal different function of the text. Yeah, remove that entry. Money isn't really really what I think of Lost Media. Lost Media should be about media that are hard to access or have little public records. In fact, let me go talk about two pieces of Touhou lost media.
  11. The search features of Nitter are invaluable. Goodness me, how I wished to have Nitter become active again when I decided to look into the development of Kubinashi Recollection. But anyway, I been looking at your Lost Media list @vanyk, and I think some formatting changes is needed. Rediscovered lost media can be separated to its own category. If one of the goals of this thread is to find lost media, then it should be easy to look at the Lost Media list and figure out which lost media needs research. My other concern is the inclusion of 日陰サバイバン (Phoenix Wright x Touhou game) or as HakanaiBlue's English translation calls it, Shady Trial. I can't see how this work be considered lost media since it can be easily be found on DLsite, which is also the main method HakanaiBlue recommends to buy the game. Simply put, I don't see how this media could be considered lost at any point in time.
  12. Apparently, I am on a roll with my research as I have just accidently found all of Distant Union works in one fell swoop. This is the link: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/ As for how I came across this link... I started by putting random words into Google like site:tumblr.com "touhou" pdf. I noticed the askudonge tumblr account and clicked on the link since its Google description said "But it's now a free pdf!". It turns out this is a pdf of Raiders of the Lost Ask Box, and I was about to click off of the pdf since that fan book was already uploaded on Lina's Art Gallery. But then I saw the url: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/raiders.pdf I asked myself: How could doublepuma.com still exist? I thought that website was unavailable? Of course, I now know that I was confusing doublepuma.com with doublepuma.bigcartel.com. But I didn't fix my mistake there as I soon saw that the url looked like a web directory, so I decided to up in the directory by removing the pdf part from the url. Fun Fact! Did you know that my visit was the first Internet Archive crawl into the page? I would know since I run the Internet Archive extension to save pages that don't have an archive for this exact reason. This led me to believe that no one from Distant Union ever actually posted the link, since the front page for doublepuma.com just leads links of Lina Ciari's works, that haven't been updated since 2020. No one would naturally find doublepuma.com/doujin without someone linking them naturally to this part of the website. So I did another google search for "doublepuma.com" to check on how people were posting links to this website. Did you know that that Plus on Block, another Touhou work by Lina Ciari, was featured on the 26th broadcast of Touhou Station? Found that one because it was submitted with the link: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/pobdigital.pdf Also, a moral of this search is to always use a Nitter instance as a part of the internet research process. It turns out that Lina Ciari already posted a pdf link to The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 1 on their Twitter account this entire time. It was the only Distant Union doujinshi that got posted publicly so this search was not a total waste, but it is a reminder to always look into Twitter as people post on that social platform far more than any where else.
  13. Updated my original post with links to scans of the NEW HORI-ZUN books. Also, I have just discovered the existence of NEW HORI-ZUN 9. According to KirbyM's C77 post, this book was a preview version of NEW HORI-ZUN 1 with the addition of scribbled on notes and pictures by Marisa. This book was given out for free at C77 for those who brought NEW HORI-ZUN 1. It also appears that the C77 distribution was the only distribution for this book which seems valid as a bonus for those brought NEW HORI-ZUN 1. This also means that this NEW HORI-ZUN book can be considered "lost media" in the purest sense since there were no reprints for this book. There are some online secondhand listings for the book, but it appears they are all out of stock. Good luck to anyone who can track this book down. KirbyM's C77 Post: https://walfas.org/?p=982
  14. From the way I see it, if we look at the continue system from a gameplay perspective, then I say that continues serves two purposes within Touhou games: Continues can act as an accessibility feature for new players. Players still congratulate runs done with continues if they felt their run was a fair challenge to them. And perhaps that be the motivation to go for a 1cc. Because if players don't have the motivation to keep practicing on the same game for hours, then they won't finish a run at all regardless if there was continue system in place. STGs and bullet hell games remain to be a niche genre due to their demand of effort these games place on players. Continues can act as a "practice" feature. But in practice, players will use continues to unlock the stage in stage select mode, and spell practice for newer games. Personally speaking, the only time I would have wanted to use continues as a practice feature would be clearing extra stages in Touhou games without spell practice. Of course, that is more of an issue with how older Touhou games lacked better practice features and serves as a reminder on why thprac should be recommended to more players to ease the issue of failing only specific spellcards late into the stage. Otherwise, continues only act as a bandage to the practice system in place for official games. Analyzing the continue system from this perspective it would seem that continue are a bandage to the issue of practice and motivation. In fact, a great example of the continue system being a bandage feature are the Phantasmagoria games. In Phantasmagoria games, continues are unlimited and I believe the reason for that is how the difficulty ramps up much more in later matches compared to earlier matches for the games' story modes combined with how danmaku is far more random in these games. If say, we had to play the earlier stages every time we wanted a shot to beat the final stage of each respective game, I say there be a lot less players completing those story modes since earlier stages fail to give challenges as practice for how to properly manage with the danmaku of later stages. This is an example of a design issue with how the battle system had to be adapted to single-player story mode and how continues act to soften this design issue in the Phantasmagoria games.
  15. Hello everyone, I have just imported some Touhou fanworks with Suruga-Ya. Here a list of the imports: A witch of memories C90 Trial NEW HORI-ZUN English Course 1, 2, 3 Disusedtopia 師走総騒記 劇場版姫リグル -永夜の燐光- (Princess Wriggle) ムーミン谷に幻想郷 (Touhou x Moomin) Since the NEW HORI-ZUN English Course books are on the Lost Media list, this post will only show those books off. Through if anyone else is curious about the other fanworks, feel free to ask me about them. NEW HORI-ZUN English Course Books Scans are hosted on Internet Archive. NEW HORI-ZUN 1 NEW HORI-ZUN 2 NEW HORI-ZUN 3
  16. I think Wild and Horned Hermit is the most suitable Touhou media as an introduction to Gensokyo and its characters while still telling a story of some kind. There a nice variety of arcs showcasing different aspects of Gensokyo observed by the hermit Kasen as its main character.
  17. Alright, as part of research to create a timeline for fan activity within Western Touhou Fandom, I discovered a some neat info about a lost Touhou circle called Distant Union. Distant Union was a circle in the United States that published physical Touhou fan books alongside pdfs online. This was paired with an online store site called Doublepuma Store. Distant Union appeared to be active from 2013 to 2014. https://web.archive.org/web/20141221052720/http://distantunion.com/works.html https://web.archive.org/web/20130520135541/http://doublepuma.bigcartel.com/ https://doublepuma.com/doujin/ The members involved within the circle, going by the their work’s credits, included Leo Modesto, Rubin, Jelajade, Siegmund, and DL. As for who these members were, they were all artists that did Touhou art and were all once active on Tumblr. Leo Modesto is now called Lina, who was the creator of the Ask Udonge blog. https://askudonge.tumblr.com/ https://www.tumblr.com/rabbitlegs Rubin is an artist and was also the creator of the Ask Kogasa blog. https://www.tumblr.com/ask-kogasa https://rubindraws.tumblr.com/ Jelajade is an artist who now works on comics. https://jelajade.com/ https://mspabooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=12197 Siegmund is an artist. https://x.com/SieggyStardust https://web.archive.org/web/20130607110831/http://fluffychainsaw.tumblr.com/ DL is an artist. https://dlanon.carrd.co/# https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/4632687 Works Update: All of their works can be downloaded on: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/works.html The spoiler below describes secondhand accounts on the works before the discoveries of Distant Union's works themselves, so it has been kept for historical usefulness. Connections It appears that Touhou Tuesday had some connection with Leo Modesto as there are podcast episodes and Facebook posts where he advertises to his audience to buy Raiders of the Lost Ask Box and The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 1. He also did an interview with Leo Modesto. http://imgur.com/a/jI5BL https://kngi.org/touhou-tuesday-2012-09-25-leo-hijack-interview-with-leo-modesto-of-ask-udonge/ https://kngi.org/touhou-tuesday-2013-01-29-3lmfao/ https://kngi.org/touhou-tuesday-2013-02-26-one-year-of-miracles-and-butts/ https://kngi.org/touhou-tuesday-2013-04-02-lovingly-playing-tyrian2000-at-gunpoint/ https://www.facebook.com/TouhouTuesday/posts/httpleomodestotumblrcompost46766031914-while-i-was-out-for-the-weekend-my-friend/195490277241601/ There was an ad on Leo Modesto’s Twitter account about purchasing Distant Union fanbooks. https://x.com/linaciari/status/487983729101766656 Lastly, Rubin appeared at Anime Boston 2014 for the Touhou Panel where she cites her experience with Ask Touhou Tumblr blogs and Distant Union. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k38mzHX6QWc&list=PLYimcvkHGXREKfRiJTls2jU3gRUyg6ctR&index=8 (Start at 2:02) All in all, Distant Union was and still is as of 2024 the only Touhou circle in the United States that has published Touhou fan books. The only other Touhou circle in the United States I know of is Fantasy Mechanics, which deals with fangame creation instead of fan books.
