  1. BAM. Dreamy Café is posted, open and ready to go. We'll start slowly, but it won't be long before conversations start and plot hooks begin to fly. Remember to take the game at your own pace. There is no rush, so getting into a chat with Marisa or an eating contest with Suika will have as much attention as foiling incidents, or investigating the cafe's secrets.
  2. Upon the southern shore of the Misty Lake, there is a building which should not be there. A modest structure, seemingly appeared overnight. While it was not unusual for a Youkai to create a home for themselves so rapidly, few had ever done so to open a business. The woman who owned the shop was certainly no Youkai, even if she was odd for a human... The name of the café was likewise a mystery. There had never been a sign above the door announcing its name. There had never been an advertising campaign, or anything else which might have given away what the café was called. Yet across Genosokyo, everyone seemed to know it by one name. The Dreamy Café. The Café had only been open for two weeks. But already, stories of the strange little café have spread across Gensokyo. Human and Youkai alike exchanged excited tales of its entrancing food and savory drinks. Of rooms, which seemed to stretch and shift, vivid colors, unnatural geometry and of the...peculiar mannerisms, of its hostess. It is these stories, which drew you to the Dreamy Café… From a distance, the building looked fairly banal. Certainly less imposing than the Scarlet Devil Mansion on the horizon. A small cottage standing on its own. The walls were warmed by the sun and inviting, surrounded by a small but colorful garden garden. Beyond the door, was a wide room, a varnished mahogany bar forming an ornate oval. Stools set at regular intervals dotted the side of the bar. Empty of customers, save for a trio of fishermen on the far side conversing among themselves. At the center of the room, encircled by the bar, was a large oak tree, its leafy limbs extending to cover the wooden beams overhead. Colored lanterns hung from its branches, giving the space a mellow atmosphere. Against its trunk, there leaned a blackboard set with a menu. Though in lieu of names and prices were only pictures in chalk. There was no sign of the proprietor of the shop at first glance. Though the moment your gaze shifted away from the bar, the figure of a young woman stood up from behind the bar. With her dark brown hair and magenta dress, she did not look particularly special in a land like Gensokyo. Despite her closed eyes, she seems to look at you quizzically. A pale hand rose, making her twin braids bob, as she gestured to the menu behind her.
  3. @MoeNwe @jankop Both approved. I can't wait to see your antics.
  4. Normally, that's not advisable in RPs, but this game should be flexible enough that will be no problem. You can play both, though if Akyuu is going to go on adventures with Kosuzu, I'll need you to fill out a sheet for her too. If she's just going to be hanging out at the café and chatting however, you won't need to fill out a sheet for her. Happy to see my other favorite bookworm showing up in the game (can't decide between Kosuzu and Patchy). Your sheet is *mostly* approved. If you flesh out her backstory a little more, you are good to go. :) A couple more sentences will be enough.
  5. Of course. :) Anyone can join at any time. When they are free, they just need to fill the sheet and get it approved. No one should worry if they have to take a break for a few weeks or have to go on hiatus. Just let us know here, and jump back in when you can.
  6. My opening paragraph isn't ready yet and the cute news birb is already showing up. I hope she enjoys the tea, gives a good review, and doesn't notice anything even slightly suspicious. Approved!
  7. Happy Saturday! I hope your evenings have all been going well, and you are all getting some rest and relaxation. I can't wait to get started with you guys. I have a few questions about what you would like from the second and perhaps third game I run, but for now, let's talk about Dreamy Café! Dreamy Café is meant as a not-so-serious game. Its rules light, and will be a little bit of everything. A little adventure, a little bit more of slice-of-life. Some drama, some comedy, where you'll all be able to hang out together or with your favorite Touhou characters. In short, its a highly flexible but lowkey game premise, where you will be free to do anything you want. Whether that is getting roped into investigating the mystery of this strange new coffee house by nosey customers. Resolving a minor incident with your favorite shrine maiden and her friends. Confessing your love to your crush, or simply enjoying a cup of tea with your friends. Below, I have a character sheet for you each to fill out. Its a pretty simple character sheet, and should only take a few moments. I've also filled out the sheet for the owner of the Dreamy Café, to give you an example of what a filled sheet might look like. When you've filled out the sheet, just post it here. I'll either approve it, or request changes. After you are approved, you can feel free to post. I am hoping to post the opening for Dreamy Café tomorrow sometime. 8. My username is a portmanteau of Yume Nikki, my favorite game, and Touhou. Ironically, both games were major fixtures on 4Chan and our Onee-2Chan, so it seemed a good name to go with. Both games are seen as cultural touchstones of the Japanese internet, so there is some overlap in the fandoms as well. Including some cool fanart.
  9. Blueberries are the greatest fruit known to man.
  10. Since my profile is a Yume Nikki reference, I think it is only fair my first songs are Yume Nikki remixes. Enjoy the chill tunes for +5 Yummy Nickels.
  11. I’ll be honest, I had no idea what to expect when I posted this. Part of me thought no one would reply at all. I’m glad to see all my ideas are getting some love. I’ll probably wait a couple more days to hear any more questions or requests before I decide which I’ll run. I only really have time to run two or three RPs, so some of them will have to be put off. For now, Dreamy Café is the only one I’ll definitely run. Which makes sense. Its more of a relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of opportunities to encounter Touhou characters, enjoy Slice-of-life shenanigans and go on character-focused adventures. Make sure you get any questions or votes in! I'll announce the RPs we will be playing this Saturday. If there is a tie or there isn't a preference among the four other ideas, I'll pick one or two which I most enjoy. I'll keep this topic up as an OoC as well as to answer questions and talk over ideas.
  12. "Well, its official. I put myself to the test, and it turns out I am 100% not good enough." Its not as bad as that phrase makes it out to be. But my own goals for the year have mostly been left behind. Its easy to say at the start of the year 'Yes I will lose weight, yes I will get a raise, yes I will play the games in my Steam library, yes I will be the best me.' But all it takes is one big thing going wrong in your life to change that, and I have had a lot more things than one go wrong. I like to think I am making small progress. I mean, one of my goals was to beat EoSD. I am here at least, in part to learn game tips. And while other things slow me down, I am hoping to at least be ready to try again next year.
  13. @jankop @Juunimeta Since you two are new to the idea, let me walk you through the concept. Forum Roleplaying, Play-by-Post Roleplaying or PbP is a style of role playing game. Unlike Tabletop or Live Action Roleplays, there is a focus on storytelling rather than rules, mechanics or even party cohesion. PbP games are often sparse on rules, with the game itself typically being freeform. What rules there are, typically are common sense. Don't control other characters, try to emulate a similar power level to other players, etc. Though more ambitious or professional games may have additional rules, like those emulating board games. Usually, each person plays a single character, often formalized on a character sheet to show what their personality and capabilities are. In many ways, its more like writing a cooperative story than playing a typical game. Continuing the story from the previous role player's post from your own character's perspective. Like in a tabletop, there is a Game Master, typically the one who starts the topic. They will control NPCs, pose the plot to the players, push the antagonists and mediate disputes between players. So let's say the three of us agreed to play a game together. As GM, I would post any rules or requirements I had, along with a character sheet I would need you two to fill in a thread like this, often referred to as an OoC (Out of Character or Out of Context). I would then make an In Character (IC) thread with the game's title, such as 'Flan-Chan's Delightful Quest (IC)'. My first post here opens the story and painting the starting location like a DM's opening narration. Jankop would then post their character's opening and reaction to what was happening. Allowing Juuni to follow up and interact with Jan, the NPCs or both. You two could then interact among yourselves and the NPCs, or I would make another post detailing something else happening. @Saathi That's right. The options I listed are just my ideas for games. I wasn't sure what tone you would all be interested in, whether serious or comedic, adventure or slice-of-life etc. So I came up with a potpourri of options, some serious and others not, at varying levels of skill. That said, I am equally willing to play an RP premise one of you suggest. If I feel like one or two of these has enough interest, I'll run it for anyone interested. So, feel free to request more than one or suggest your own. And since I know this will be a question, yes you can play your favorite Touhou characters for these. Yes, you can play an Original Character if you prefer. The only exception is if we decide to play Become Fumo, we aren't actually playing Touhou characters, but marketable plushies based on them.
  14. Its a role play interest check. Eientei is meant to be the Roleplay center, but there has not been an active one in months. I think we should change that, and revive the fun of play-by-post roleplaying games. The sections I have in spoilers are different ideas for roleplaying games. Each with different concepts and tones, to try and gauge what you guys would enjoy. I used to be huge into forum-based roleplay a decade ago. So I am alright playing for any level of experience, so long as we have enough people interested. Have you ever been part of a roleplaying game before? Either tabletop or pbp forum roleplay?
  15. The chances your favorite Touhou girl has eaten a man before is never zero.

  16. Ladies and gentlemen! Our fair land is beset by twin beasts! Monsters beyond the scope of any Youkai! These maledictions are the horrid twins of Apathy and Boredom. Together, these foul menaces have cast a pall upon the land, and subjected you to untold hours of joylessness. No more, sisters and sisters! I am declaring a one-princess crusade against Eientei’s decline! With your help, we can slay these terrors, and give you minutes of entertainment whenever you log on. Join me in my righteous quest, and restore greatness to our land! That said, I am sadly a newbie here, and haven’t had the chance to learn what appeals to the Moriya Shrine’s palette. Outside of ‘2hu’, ‘cute girls’ and possibly 'dank memes', that is. So, I am throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. If you see an idea you like, or even have a suggestion of your own, post it down below! If one of these has enough interest, I will run it for your viewing pleasure. An original character of your own creation, or a favorite from the series are both options for the games below. Just make sure its a character who fits the idea, and who you will enjoy playing. Grim Queen’s Fantasy Genre: Adventure Dreamy Café Genre: Slice of Life Illusionary Nirvana Genre: 4X Strategy Flan-Chan's Delightful Quest Genre: Slice of Life/Adventure Become Fumo: War for Home Genre: Adventure
  17. Do you know what is one thing I miss from the old days of the internet? OCs, Original Characters. For all the cringey self-inserts, Donut Steel jokes and recolors of Sonic the Hedgehog, there was a charming innocence to them. Most were a child or teen’s attempt at creating something new for a world they loved. Some did not fit the source material, but felt genuinely good enough to have their own story. Others fit flawlessly. For some reason though, I seldom see people talk about their Original Characters today. I’m not sure if it’s gone out of vogue with the rise of multiplayer games or I just don’t know where to find them. Touhou itself I have seen few OCs for, though I am sure there were a number of them in the 00s. The material is ripe for creativity, and there are OCs I have seen referenced as characters in fan games. In fact, I am willing to bet that all of you had an OC at some point. In honor of the innocence of youth and the joys of creation, let’s play a game. Post a character meant for the world of Gensokyo that you or someone else made. Write a little bit about them, their backstory and motivation. Any stories about them which make you proud or make you cringe. I’ll start, even if mine is a little unusual. A few months ago, I was having burnout from tabletop games, which have been largely the same in the West for more than a decade. D&D makes up the lion’s share of the game space, and most other big games imitate it. To shake me out of my rut, I had a group of friends on Discord pick out an indie or fan game they enjoyed the look of and we would run it. On the list was Danmaku Yuugi Flowers. A Touhou fan game I had put on the list for how different it was. My game was set in a homebrew world, but I wanted the characters to be authentic to Touhou's style. Starting my slide into the fandom. Naturally, a tabletop game needs NPCs. My first creation for the world was a vampire named Hope Black. I wanted to give her a wholesome, Midwest country girl vibe. Though I also designed her to be an inversion of Remilia. Instead of opulent glamor, she has a homely charm. She lives alone in a log cabin, and keeps a farm on her own. She’s also one of the guardians of the land, who I really should come up with a name for. Though she is still new to the role and uncertain in herself. I wish I could tell you more about her and what the others thought. Sadly my workload at my day job has spiked again, keeping us from playing. So now I am just left with this character concept and a doodle I made over a lunch break.
  18. My laptop background. Its not as dank as many of yours. but it gives me the same sensation I get from other games of the early internet. For those not in the know, this is art of a game called Katawa Shoujo. The name translates to 'disabled girls', and follows the store of a literally heart-broken man as he tries to find love. Its an old game, all told, but gives me the same nostalgic feeling other games from the time gives me. What warms me most about them, is they are games made by passionate people. Whether artist or fans. Though even seeing them gives me a sense of sadness, seeing fan art or songs twenty years old. What made me happy yesterday, makes me sad today. Knowing in these memories, are the seeds of future happiness. I try not to have many programs on my laptop. Life is best lived without complications, and I am not software-literate enough for any complicated . My PC on the other hand is filled with programs and games I never have time for.
  19. Hello one and all, its a pleasure to meet you all this fine evening. I am Yumetou, a man with too little time on his hands. My name is a portmanteau of Yume Nikki and Touhou, a game I know very well and a series I don't know that well, and both staples of the 2000s weeb scene. Unlike most of you, I have never actually played a Touhou game, and for a long time didn't know what it was. References to it were everywhere when I first started using the net, but no one I knew played or even knew what it was. It was a weird circumstance, with fan art and fan music remixes being everywhere. Yet I had no idea if it was a game, anime, manga or something else. I loved the music of course, but it felt awkward to sidle into the Youtube comments section or an image board conversation and ask 'Yeah I like this, but what is a Touhou and where can I get one?' Eventually, my family axed our internet to save on bills. I grew up, got a job, and almost forgot about that part of my life. Almost. Touhou recently reentered my life through the magic of the cute and cursed Fumo memes. Sharing some led me to discover a couple friends of mine were diehard fans of the series. While watching a video one of them recommended, Moriya Shrine was mentioned as a place to download older games not available in the West, and a place to meet other fans. Being a longtime lurker on old image boards, nostalgic for memories of the old Internet, and having never beaten a Touhou game, I thought I would join the Shrine. I have frightfully little free time, but I am hoping to browse, try various games and ask for tips, especially for the early bullet-hells. I used to love play-by-post forum roleplaying, so perhaps I will see you there. I am hoping to make more friends like those who introduced me to the series, and stir a little bit of my old nostalgia, before the last of my gamer skills fade away. Thank you for taking the time to read my autobiography. I am looking forward to seeing more of all of you!
