Funky guitar girl Day 40: Benben Tsukumo Benben is a neat character. Really nice parts to her character that flesh her out well. I like the stuff she has with raiko, where she shows them how to keep themselves going with magic. Her design is really neat, and I think it’s good as a simple design. Honestly though, she hasn’t done much, but it’d be sweet to see her with the prismrivers more. Overall, good small character that could definitely show up again.

This character doesn’t exist in a good way Day 39: Koakuma Koakuma isn’t a character, but her case is very different than dai’s. Koakuma ended up being fanoned as patchy’s servant/friend, which really helped her character. She shows up much more and more meaningfully than dai, because people tend to use her as a part of patchy instead of a sidekick, where we see her get to do some stuff. In many fangames, she tends to be cheerful, and generally is fun to see. The specific good fan work for her is the busy person games, where she is basically an Everyman. Overall, another of those fan carried characters, but isn’t present in the series.

Should I make the Angry grandma family feud joke again? Day 38: Nemuno Sakata Nemuno is a very uninteresting character on paper. Very little character, simple lore, and not much to shine with. However, lost word took this character and made her into something, which shows a very important thing about unpopular or “nothing” characters. If someone is dedicated, they can create the character into something more, and hopefully convince others in the process. Nemuno specifically got some character interaction and some stuff with what she does in her free time, which is nice. Overall, a character that got something from a fangame, even if people still didn’t care.

I feel like the comparison between her and sakuya is really unfair imo. Sakuya got so much more than being a maid, and really doesn’t feel like she fits in the category Yumeko does. I really wanna see Yumeko more because she isn’t sakuya and also makes another awesome character almost have to show up with her.

Intimidating sword maid Day 37: Yumeko Yumeko is neat. I love her concept, as it really shows how touhou likes to have the servants be very strong too. Her swords motif is cool, and I find it neat to see done well. However, she hasn’t got much in fangames, which is a medium in which her master is pretty popular in. It’s pretty unfair, as she’s a cool concept in her own right, but doesn’t get to shine much. Also, if you couldn’t tell I find her to be intimidating as well, which most servant characters don’t do. Her theme absolutely slaps btw. Overall, a great concept with no huge representation yet.

I really like that kinda thing for these more forgotten characters, and I totally get the fact of they could have something no matter what they currently have. However, I can’t find every single character to have more potential than other characters who are at least established. Now, there are characters that I feel can do a similar thing to what you describe, but I feel like it’s hard to see that with every single character. Kurumi specifically has more potential in my opinion, but I’d rather go and care about the newer characters who haven’t had the chance to shine, like megumu, Chimata, Keiki, and other similar characters, due to the fact they have something to build off of. But yeah, I’d be lying if I didn’t agree but feel this way on different characters, which would be Yumemi and Gengetsu lol.

Vampire girl who has Rumia vibes Day 36: Kurumi Kurumi is another PC98 character that has nothing special. I only really like her for her design, which reminds me of Rumia. In fact, she fills the same kind of role as her, being a reminder that youkai do kill people. I also have used her in tpdp a decent amount, so I’m a bit partial to her. Overall, vampire girl with a nice design.

Blissey omegalol Day 35: Orange I have absolutely no feeling towards orange. In fact, I have no clue why she got this high, as I only have one interesting thing to say about her. In puppet dance performance, she’s one of the best puppets because her stat line is like Blissey. Overall, not interesting in the slightest, and I struggle to find stuff to talk about with her.

No borgar, but a suitable alternative. Besides, the noodles are more fitting for her anyways.

D-Lux shafted character - Luigi version Day 34: Mai Teireida Mai is better than Satono for a simple reason, which is her design. Most of my points stand, like the fact that it’s pretty terrible she never shows up. The worst part is that she could show up but just doesn’t. Anyways, the point is that characters become much better when you like the design, so naturally, well designed characters stick better (it’s why Keiki remained relevant after her game). Overall, an example of a character that only sticks on by her design and potential.

Don’t make your touhou fan content a political push. Basically, touhou ain’t for telling people what to believe in any sense

Witch girl with the funky cat Day 33: Ellen Ellen is neat. She definitely doesn’t have much like most PC98 characters, but her small bit of it is neat. She wants to open a magic shop, and she is kinda a witch in training of sorts. Her cat is cool, and her design in general in solid. Overall, another small character that would be nice to see, especially since she’d add to the forest of Magic’s cast of characters. (Totally trying to write this while half asleep, since I got 5 hours of sleep last night lmao)

*Aya looks over at yuyuko, smiles, and turns to the barkeep.* Aya:*quietly* “Careful, that ghost can eat you out of this cafe. Some say she has an infinite appetite.”*as she says this, she giggles a bit.* Aya:(As usual, I’m gonna keep track of all of this. Who knows, there’s already some interesting characters filtering in as I write.)

Aya: “Yeah, it reminded me of skies above youkai mountain, before I was a reporter and just flew above the mountain a bunch.”

To be fair, I do make all sorts of stupid jokes for these (see, my Chiyuri bingo). But I’ve seen the joke on AspreyFM’s streams, so I just decided it was enough to be known by a couple of people.

Wait who’s this? Oh hey Benben. Oh okay I know who you are now. Day 32: Yatsuhashi Tsukumo Yatsuhashi is definitely a character. Her design is weaker than her sisters, so she gets pushed away from the spotlight quick. Fortunately, so many people made benben’s sister jokes that it balanced out and made her show up with Benben a lot. I like the lore they have with raiko, and it’s the only little tidbit they have. Overall, simple side character with a funny meme.

Aya: (Hmmmmmm… many different choices, all the same style though. That’s another thing to note down.) *She quickly takes a couple more notes and then looks back up.* Aya: “I will have the tuna sushi please. Kosuzu, what are you interested in getting? There so much on here to pick.”

Aya: “It’s… something. I cant really put my finger on the taste, but it’s oddly familiar. Wanna try?” *She slides it over in Kosuzu’s direction, still confused on what to even call the taste in her article.*

Aya:(interesting, quite the set of characteristics for a seemingly normal soda…) *She takes a furtive and quick sip of it and starts noting it’s characteristics, like the odd label and it’s presumed origin of the outside world, though she doubts it a bit* Aya: “Thanks for the drink!”

The first answer is actually relatively simple, as it’s one the locations’s purpose. Muenzuka is a spot in gensokyo where it’s very close to the border, so many things kinda just fall into gensokyo. This is where characters like rinnosuke, yukari, and many of the more treasure hunting types go out there to get strange goods. And as for currency, I imagine it’s a currency that’s “fallen to fantasy” so it’s likely either an older form of yen since Japan used it for awhile(iirc, yen was used in Meiji 18, when gensokyo was created), or an older unused currency.

AND HERE COMES BLONDIE, WITH THE STEEL CHAIR!!!!!! AND ITS A SMOOTH KNOCKOUT ON YUMEMI!!!!!! Day 31: Chiyuri Kitashirakawa Chiyuri is a neat character. Of course, she has the obvious steel chair meme, which immediately makes her mildly entertaining. Her design is generally kinda weak, and she is the weaker part of the duo with yumemi. Her lore isn’t as interesting, but it’s nice to see her as an additional part to yumemi. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have much to do without Yumemi showing up again. Overall, a neat character that’s a bit weak without another and has a funny meme.

Aya: “Oh, you know, the usual going about hunting for a good scoop. And we are currently sitting in the middle of possibly nice little extra article to put in. Though I’m a little underwhelmed so far, it won’t hurt to just review the place and leave it there. What brings you here?” *As aya says this, she jots down another one or two details, like the drinks or the oak tree within the cafe*

*Noticing Kosuzu, aya gazes wanders over to her as she sees her being a bit nervous* Aya:(oooo, that girl always has some kind drama about her, I should keep an ear out. Let’s see what I can do to get her talking…. Ah, maybe I should order something to get another person chatting!) Aya: “Hello, bartender lady! I’d like the item on the bottom right of the menu, the drink. Please and thank you!”
