This game really is interesting but everything is so confusing about it especially the story, I feel like ZUN and the team just wanted to make a video game without paying extra attention to the story… the characters really looks cool but sadly, we never saw them again (expect Reimu and Mima) Btw Highly Responsive to Prayers had a lot of references/inspirations from other games and one of the most notable is Kiki Kaikai, I’m not gonna make a long list about the references to it because there is a lot of references to that game series

Aren’t those arts made by the same artist ? btw I think that’s because she is often associated with Papyrus from Undertale, he loves spaghetti (and claiming that he is the strongest)
-
Yup they seems to still be around and they are making Touhou-like games O_O Check it out !! https://amusement-makers.org/catalog.php?id=23 I need to play it in order to have an idea of what Touhou would be like if ZUN was still with them. I remember in an interview that he said he wanted to make a "darker" game or add a more serious tone to the Touhou franchise that’s why he decided to continue it on his own, but I can’t remember where I read that :(

Do you mean what if he has continued to work on Touhou with Amusment Makers ? It would end up just like Touhou Lost Word and we would often see the popular characters in each games. Maybe there would be DLC as well ? Or maybe he would have worked on Touhou games with a whole new concept of Danmaku where we would have to pay in order to unlock new abilities or shooting type Btw what I’m gonna say is kinda off topic but I feel like Flandre in Touhou 17.5 was kinda like fan service ? I mean she has nothing special to do with the incident -_- Or maybe I missed something in the scenario

Kutaka’s little nest on her head seems nice to me, she can carry a cute little chicken with her all day and it’s quite unique :P Remilia’s hat isn’t a sleeping gear, it’s a mobcap/bonnet and was worn anywhere, btw it’s not really old-fashioned because it was reintroduced in 2000s fashion thanks to the Lolita fashion

And thus, @CountVonNumenor started the AMA trend…

Am I a bad fan? What makes one a Touhou fan?

I guess we all have the same "incident" in mind rn… it just depicts perfectly what we all said in this topic -_- -
What is a waifu, and why do we like them so much?
Nekoko replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Misty Lake
The Waifu FAQ is written in a waaaay too much affirmative way, like, the guy conveys a feeling that he knows what he is talking about however it’s kinda bs First of all, the word "waifu" comes from the katakana transcription of the English word "wife" so basically, it has to be a girl, just, I precise that if it’s a guy it is called a "husbando" (= husband) Then, it refers to video game or anime (3D or 2D) characters however I would like to make a larger definition of it by saying that it refers to fictional characters from Japanese related content, so, for example, if the character comes from an American manga, then you can consider it as a waifu/hosbando because manga are from Japan. Otherwise if it’s from a cartoon (like Steven Universe or idk) it is traditionally just called a love interest, maybe now people would include it in the waifu/husbando category :/ Don’t take what I’m gonna say in consideration it’s just my personal point of view, you don’t need to have the Discord Mod starter pack to have a waifu, it’s in the mind so no need to have posters or anything, and it would’ve been better if instead of saying this « you’re not working towards a goal or anything, enjoy her and yourself », he have said something like « make sure to improve yourself so that you give a reason for your waifu to chose you over another guy ». A lot of persons are unhappy in real life even with 1000 waifu/hosbando (I’ll write it w/h to make it short) they are depressed and feel empty : fictional love will, sadly, never replace irl love, you don’t learn how to improve yourself with a w/h because they can’t give you advices and there’s more reason about it but I’m gonna keep it short ^-^ Tbh I don’t really understand what is really confusing you with the waifu concept : you simply feel better with those characters because they convey to you a feeling that makes you feel better or a feeling that you are missing, for example if you tenderness is really missing in your life then you’ll be more interested in sweet and softhearted waifu -
Can anime and its art style warp one's perception of reality?
Nekoko replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Misty Lake
I’m just gonna make it short because I don’t have enough time (and motivation) to develop my point but it seems that in this era it’s not only anime which can "corrupt" the perception of reality. It can also be cartoons, movies and models : so in short, every visual content. For example Jessica Rabbit, Kate (from Inner Workings), the Kardashians or Kate Upton -
How would you have created Touhou LostWord?
Nekoko replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Derivative Works
The new feature (vs Spirits) is quite exhausting… why can’t we just go directly on level 120 spirit battle ?! I’m not even at the half of it and I’m already tired of it :'( -
The General State of Touhou "Down Bad Syndrome"
Nekoko replied to Reitisen's topic in General Touhou
I don’t understand why Touhou have a lot of NSFW content, I mean look at what they look like in the game, they all have child proportions and they aren’t drawn in a sexy way with sexy clothes I wonder wish one of the fetish you’ve listed is the most used or the most appreciated (I’m just curious) -
Undertale vs Touhou in a nutshell : Everything started when Undertale became pretty popular in 2017, some Touhou fans noticed the Subterranean Animism (and not only) references Toby Fox has made in his game and so they claimed Undertale is copying Touhou 11 Then some other were mad because they noticed that Bad Apple and other famous MV were "stolen" by the Undertale fanbase (they were really considering it as stealing but tbh it was just some parodies) And finally, the video Sakuya vs Frisk(Chara) was born it’s an animation made by JzBoy and Sakuya : Undertale fans were angry and some debate about multiversal Frisk is stronger than Sakuya etc… To bring back the two communities together, JzBoy made the video Asriel vs Marisa ; Toby Fox admitted he likes Touhou and that’s it What you must know is that most of the fans at this moment were 12-15 years old so they were kinda immature :/

Am I a bad fan? What makes one a Touhou fan?
Nekoko replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Misty Lake
I just wanted to add that : it’s not because you don’t know everything about a franchise that you can’t be considered as a true fan of it. According to me a fan is also someone who enjoy discovering some new stuff or informations about a franchise they like, so it’s okay to not know everything of it since it always takes time to know and understand the franchise at 100% :3 So to sum up my point, showing an interest on Touhou story and characters because you love understanding/discovering stuff about the franchise makes you a (true) fan By the way I’m insisting on this point because, when I saw the "degradation of a fanbase" drawing I’ve just remembered about the existence of some cosplayers who pretend to be Touhou (or any other franchise) fans but don’t give a sh*t about the story and characters… can we call them bad fans anyway ??? -
As for me I also wish the most basic thing : I wish to succeed in my medical studies, I wish that my family and my friends will be happy and won’t have trouble or problems for this year, and finally, I would like to improve my drawing skill and my English I also wish you all that your dreams come true this year, or at least, that you will achieve something great this year

Am I a bad fan? What makes one a Touhou fan?
Nekoko replied to CountVonNumenor's topic in Misty Lake
Actually, there is some bad fan and it’s the ones who are claiming that liking this character or this franchise is a sin. Like in the Dragon Ball fandom, some people would like to kick me if I say that I prefer Dragon Ball GT more than Dragon Ball Z, the people I’m talking about are 100% bad fans because they don’t let me or some other person love what they want, they just want everyone to like the same thing… So to put it in a nutshell, according to me, bad fans exist and they are the one who are oppressing the whole fandom by forcing them to think the same thing and like the same stuff -
Naruto seems interesting but the problem is that the main character, Naruto make me feel uncomfortable… he is, I don’t know… a little bit too much energetic and fooling around he is my worst nightmare But since a lot of people seems to like this manga, can you tell me more specifically why do you like it or what makes it better than another Shōnen ?

I guess that ZUN made a reference to the her "China" nickname… it’s really upsetting because I like Meiling as well and she deserves more than just being a joke character, and it’s kinda like… racist ? I’m not saying that it is purely racism but what I’m trying to say is that : because you cannot pronounce a name from your country/culture doesn’t mean that you have to disrespect the person and their name…
-
The problem with Meiling's name is that it can be read in so many different way that ZUN himself and the whole fandom forgot how Hong Meiling's kanji are supposed to be read... It was during an interview that someone said Chuugokou (it means China in japanese) because he didn't knew how to read her name and wanted to ask a question about her to ZUN Hong Meiling is a joke character, look at her dialogue in EoSD Here is my source about the subject : ZUN's comment from Dai Touhouten plaque " For my first Windows debut with a title named "Eastern," wouldn't it be interesting if I designed it around a Western-style mansion? That's the contrarianism EoSD was based on, and I made it more fun by making a Chinese gatekeeper guarding a Western-style mansion. She's the character born from such extreme contrarianism. During that time, her name was so hard to pronounce so people gave her the lovely nickname "China" and people loved it. Nowadays, pretty much everyone knows how to pronounce her actual name, at least I hope so. She's a versatile character that can fill both a cool and a dumb role." I guess that it's because she is (kinda) weak, naive and vulnerable

What is your favorite Touhou character illustration made by ZUN?
Nekoko replied to Nekoko's topic in Artwork & Photos
It’s okay you can add any of your favorite design or artworks as long as it was made by ZUN :3 She really is amazing here what I prefer the most is to see Marisa wearing a different color outfit and her dress it’s just so cute !! I really love how ZUN designed Marisa’s hat in every games. It’s really sad that during this period ZUN didn’t draw a lot like he did in that Seihou Yuuka artwork. But I don’t really like the fact that in his new artworks, the faces are all the same and the design aren’t so Touhou-like -

What is your favorite Touhou character illustration made by ZUN?
Nekoko replied to Nekoko's topic in Artwork & Photos
To think about it, everything in Th13 Marisa design is different even her pose thanks for posting it cuz’ I’m always overlooking on Th13 artworks We have the same taste xD My Touhou art gallery = PC98 to Touhou 11 arts This is so Shoujo looking and I guess it’s what makes the difference between Touhou PC98 to 10 era and Touhou modern era. ZUN kinda gave up this Shoujo style for a more generic and flat style, it’s style very cute but I don’t feel this Touhou vibe through his new arts. I totally agree, this is a very powerful and charismatic looking art, it’s really sad that the other characters didn’t had a full screen art too. For me the best thing with Sariel is her little animation during the fight, she looks calm but strong… I don’t know how to describe this feeling in a better way ^^
