i know two versions of how it might have started(both involve bad apple) 1. so the first version i know of is when making badapple shadow art videos of stuff was a trend someone made one for UT then UT fans saw original version and though touhou stole it 2. UT fans basically listened to original bad apple and thought touhou stole their "yellow soul theme" idk which one is true though
