Nice chapter as always, I can already feel the homely aura oozing from that cozy house... Alright so I know I'm a bit late today but it can't be helped this time, feeling a bit unwell since yesterday, it's not like I didn't have the time but I was so dizzy that I couldn't read anything at all but on the brighter side I get to slack off today, meaning a free Monday review yay! Let's get to business now, shall we? Everyone went first and chose the "rope trick" option and to be honest I'm glad they did, it made me remember some old cartoons like Woody Woodpecker when he fought that Indian guy back in the good old days. Still, it's not like we would lose the opportunity to show off, right? Gensokyo is all about showing off after all. Good to see you around, my ally! So, I had to read this 2 times before understanding that you are not proposing to raid Kourindou lol. However, I must ask who was Ryunosuke again? I'm pretty sure his name was Rinnosuke and I just wanted to say that maybe he has a Yu Gi Oh deck lying around somewhere, or perhaps you are talking about Fortune Teller? If that is the case then I agree, he is dead and sealed at this point so it's improbable to find him around, unless we use the logic in forbidden scrollery that when you read a book, the author is always watching over you, even if he is dead. This is a good question, people often don't think about this but I believe that the common agreement we use nowadays is that the barrier affects language in some way to make communications easier between parties, for example, it was stated in forbidden scrollery once that Tengus have an "ancient language" that most Tengus wouldn't be able to read today, which implies that the Tengus have their own separate language, Kappas are probably similar in a way, not to mention that some youkais might not originate from Japan. Considering that, it's not far-fetched to assume that Yukarin and the sages messed with the boundaries of languages or something related, the only hole in this theory is that it doesn't affect written works at all, maybe it's purposeful to not destroy anyone's culture. Regardless, Yume has the final say about this, I'm just theorizing things It's a good read, especially if you want to know more about how myth works in Gensokyo, and what some characters think about it, the fortune teller is completely unremarkable though, he briefly appeared and was promptly shot down as soon as he did. His work, however, is commendable even if his abilities were not suited for a fight face to face, his capacity to gather information went above and beyond, a shame he was not able to see the bigger picture due to his resentment and ended up painting a target on his back.2 points

Post is up! A longer one, but after reading Kymoh enjoying the cozy vibes of the last, I thought it fit. I also tried to make this one a little longer as an apology while I wait on a copy of Forbidden Scrollery...or money to buy it. I promise, there is a very specific reason why Oscar isn't having trouble understanding the others. I can't recall if I thought of this at the start of writing this or as he ran into Team 9, but its a not something pulled from nowhere...not completely at least. So! Creepy abandoned house up ahead. Real spoop hours have descended. Will our heroes find anything helpful? Will they leave cursed? Will they die horrifically? Was Fortune Teller Old Man Willard the whole time?! Find out next time!2 points

A few months ago, I was starting to feel like my professional writing was growing a bit stale. I was writing a lot of the same things, and it felt very routine. To shake myself out of this rut, I started an ongoing fan fiction where the audience would choose what happened next. The Gensokyo Survival Guide. It seems to have made an impression on a handful of people, whom I am very happy to write for. But there wasn't really a place to receive feedback or ideas. The handsome and charismatic Gri has suggested I make an OoC, but my life was hectic at the time and I struggled with where to put it. So, I am dropping it off here. :) If you have any comments or suggestions for the fan fiction, or any other projects I may undertake as Touhou fan fiction, feel free to leave me a message here! Whether its a review of the story so far, ideas for what might come later, or just complains that Team 9 has taken over the thread, I am overjoyed to hear you took the time to read my silly adventure. @Gri1 point

Yup, very nice and relaxed chapter this time :) In fact I'm struggling to put into words the overwhelming bliss I felt, when I re-read it after I took a refreshing shower and got cozy; For a moment I even felt like I was Oscar -taking a bite of tempura after days of starvation- total paradise ...And I'm not exaggerating haha Anyways, I chose that option too. Going to a library and reading books sounds boooring, and visiting Reimu or exploring the forest again seems straight-up dangerous. I guess it would make more sense to visit a library and study the new grimoire and some japanese... but oh well, I wanted to choose an option that sounded more interesting. Also Mr.Mota, I believe Ossy won't be meeting Ryunosuke face-to-face. Re-reading the ending, it looks more like Mystia was suggesting searching his old shop. Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding you :) Also also, I'm left wondering how language works in this story. We know Oscar doesn't speak japanese, and I bet his friends didn't simply notice his red hair + green eyes and start speaking English for him haha... So the Gods automatically inserted the language into his brain like an isekai? But why can't he read?! What?!?!1 point

And the readers choose the option I threw in for a laugh. Don't worry, I already have some plans for your chosen branch. Though this may be more of a long-term goal. I haven't gotten beyond the first couple Touhou games (RIP desktop), but my understanding is the Dream World is inhabited by one person (who isn't a dream doppelganger), Doremy. Which is a lot of information most characters don't know, much less Oscar. We still have options though. We can meld the Fantasy World, World of Fantasies etc from the 98 era into the Dream World. Locations with little detail and many superficial similarities, which would tie more characters and entryways to the Dream World. Orrr...time for more OCs. Which I think you'll find more exciting~ We're about to start the next chapter. Hoping to include a 'character sheet' for Oscar when I do, which will give you a rough outline of his skill at each reaction. The next chapter will be focused on Oscar establishing himself in the Human Village. Earning money, starting a business, making friends and enemies, and trying to find out what happened to him. We'll see many faces, some friends reunited or met for the first time. But he will be reuniting and meeting enemies as well. Not all threats however are monsters running wild in the woods. Some can doom you with a few words. Keep your new friends close, and your favorite friends closer. Next, a question for you guys. The GSG I've been trying to walk a fine line with, showing comedy, mystery, wonder and even horror. Its not really meant to be an action or romance game, with what action there is being quick and deadly, and romance (in future) being fleeting yet meaningful. I am curious, would you all be interested in more fanfiction from yours truly? I've characters I had planned for my failed revival of Eientai who I think I could make a story around, which you may enjoy. Though each has very different vibes. I think there's only interest enough for one or two. But if enough people think they would enjoy a second story, I would be happy to write it out when I have time. A pest of a Youkai is newly born in a pit of Sin. But his heart burns with a fire few have ever seen! Driven by his noble spirit, he sets out on a merry quest across Gensokyo in search of true love! With justice in his fists and truth in his heart, can he smite evil and uncover his truest of loves? A story set in the future, around two matured spirits of the past. An unlikely dark knight saves the life of a pale lady. Tying the two together in a tale of young love, gothic opulence and rock 'n roll. Yet even as he seeks her favor, can he prove himself? Not merely to her, or her family and friends, but himself that hard-headed maid? A visiting vampire, on a spirited trip away from her prairie home. Eager to take in the sights, enjoy the ambience, and relax on her first vacation in 250 years. Unaware she is about to become involved in a silent war between an untrustworthy hag, and a childhood rival. A lost dreamer awakens in a world of fantasy. With a mouth that does not speak and eyes which do not open, can she can she traverse this mysterious world and set her roots in Gensokyo? Or will her bizarre powers and strange mannerisms sew chaos around her? Lastly, would you all have a preference for where I'd export this, if I ever work this CYOA into a full on fan fiction? Anywhere you'd recommend?1 point

Greetings. I don't really have much to add that Kymoh hasn't already said for this week's chapter, other than "great job". It's cool to see Kimiko again, and this scene helps establish that Oscar isn't safe just because he got in the village. It's a bit the same for the scene with Keine, but Keine is more suspicious of him that outright hostile. Trying to impress a group of people with one big introduction + magic might have worked, but I doubt Oscar would want to try that again with the stern Keine who doesn't seem to buy his bluff. A simple introduction will do (Keine might react favourably if she learns who Oscar "friends" are, or she might be more suspicious if she learns he came from Muenzuka. No sure if Keine knows about the significance of this location in canon, but regardless it's a dangerous place and any "magician" coming from such a place could be bad news for the villagers) I don't agree with this. Sure, a long entry might turn off people who haven't started reading the series, but once they start reading it and taking an interest, I don't think they'll mind. If anything, longer entries can spend more time to describe the characters feelings, the small actions they do, and smaller details about the environment (all of which contribute to build the ambience). Better entries means more chance to keep people hooked.1 point

On Youkai in the Human Villages In spite of its name, there are a number of Youkai who live inside the Human Village, or visit for its services. As the Village is well protected by the Myouren Temple, Otherworldly Ventures Extermination Division and the Incident Resolvers, most of these Youkai are benign and relatively friendly. However, their presence is feared and hated among many Natives who see them as intrusive or possibly dangerous. As such, most Youkai attempt to disguise themselves, or obfuscate their lack of humanity. Youkai can normally be found around the Myouren Temple, with Buddhism being a draw for them. Likewise, a smaller number may be found around the All Souls Chapel and the Outsider Quarter in general. Drawn either by the promise of religious acceptance or a sense of kinship with those not ‘pure’ enough for some villagers’ liking. In general, it is discouraged from naming these Youkai or drawing attention to them in public. While some Natives are accepting of them, others will find their presence a source of alarm. In the event of suspicion falling on one, they are advised to seek shelter at the Myouren Temple, All Souls Chapel or the Hakurei Shrine. If however you suspect a Youkai of being malicious, it is best you alert the Incident Resolvers listed in the back glossary, or contact the Extermination Division. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Chopsticks weren’t exactly a tool Oscar was used to. In fact, he ate the majority of his meal by hand rather than just with the chopsticks. Still, the clatter they made as they struck against the plate was pleasant. As pleasant as the warmth in his now full belly. For a few moments, the world around him didn’t matter. It didn’t matter he was poor, in a strange place, or had to sleep on a smelly old mattress. He was fed and surrounded by the closest thing he had to friends. Most of all, he was happy. “Ahh…” The stage magician sighed to himself. “Ahh…” The figures around him echoed, as though in agreement. Cirno lay with her back on the stool, limbs splayed to all sides. Wriggle leaned one elbow on the counter. Trying to pick at her teeth when she thought no one was looking. Mystia looked very satisfied as she idly crunched on a deep fried green bean across the counter. Daiyousei rubbed at her petite belly with both hands, eyes closed. And Agappa… ...Was picking up crumbs to eat with her chopsticks. As the day’s heat roiled all around them, the six of them sat in the shade. Savoring the weight in their bellies. Each of them had other things to do, he was sure. By the sounds of it, the four of them were normally in bed at this hour. They’d all made a lot of dishes for Mystia to deal with. And he had his own growing list of tasks to work on. But for a few moments more, they could all revel in their common happiness. It was Mystia who broke the silence, taking their dishes one by one as she brought them over to the sink to be washed. The warmth in the atmosphere was still there, but reality now seeped in around it. For a moment, Oscar pondered to himself. “Hey Mystia...do you need some help with the dishes?” “No, its fine.” She hummed back. Glancing back towards him with a smile. “After I’m done with them, I put them in a basin full of soap. That way they’re easier to wash when I get back to them in the evening.” ...It seemed across time and space, no one ever wanted to do dishes. Not even the mistress of the Night Sparrow Dining Hall. “Well...I guess I should go to check out the Fortune Teller’s home.” A familiar weighty silence dawned once more over the group. As sinister and pressing as any mention of Kimiko or Agappa-chan. As usual, it was Cirno who replied first. “Great! Maybe he left some nasty hexes around! I’ll freeze them with a wave of the hand.” The energetic fairy waved one hand overhead from where she lay with an adventurous grin. A moment before she slipped from her chair with a cry. Wriggle, resigned to not getting the tempura out of her teeth for now, let out a sigh. “I’ll come too. I don’t want you to get lost again like last night.” “Then let’s go!” Cirno said, standing up, one arm thrust into the air. “Dai-chan, you coming?” “I...think a cursed youkai den is too much for me.” Daiyousei replied, looking unsettled as she did. “I think I’ll go back to Heida and get some sleep.” “You and Osu-san are so brave, Cirno.” Mystia rejoined with a smile. One that made Wriggle’s brow furrow in displeasure. “I’m tired too. I’ll go with Daiyousei back to the temple.” Oscar’s eyes next went to Agappa. The figure in her bright yellow raincoat said nothing. Only nodding in reply. “Then we’re off! Adventure awaits!” The irrepressible ice fairy cheered. Before boldly leading Oscar, Wriggle and Agappa back into the village. Indeed, so determined was she that it took him half an hour to realize she had no idea where they were going… Cirno was saved the act of admitting her failure when the sight of a homestead, not far from the main road, came into view. It was similar to its neighbors. Not a replica like so many homes in urban or suburban America were, but its distinctions would have been subtle. Were it not in such a state of disrepair. The paper doors were shedding, the roof tiles falling. Weeds sprouted around a fallen stand in front of the building, and ugly stains were flecked onto the sign overhead. Purity seals were placed over the entrances and windows. Faded from many long months in the sun. The building simply sat there, like the corpse of an animal on the side of the road. Its bleak windows staring like empty sockets down at the four… =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= How do we get in? = "Here girls, let me show you what a 'rope trick' is." = "C'mon, let's try the front door." = "The windows are too obvious, and high up. Maybe there's a cellar entrance of some kind." = "Life has many entrances, if you know how to make them."0 points
