Sorry to pop in unannounced... over 20 posts and I had completely forgotten about introductions! As you can see my username, I go by Kymoh. How is it pronounced? Dunno. I've had this account for several months now, but it's only been recently that I've started to become more active. Hopefully I don't lose interest :) Anyways, a few basic points about me: -Discovered touhou 1-2 years ago. Still a casual fan. I know the most popular characters (like those in Bad Apple MV) but not much else. -Bad at video games in general. I've played Touhou 4, 6, 12.3, but haven't beat any of them at 1CC easy ugh -Adding to that, I like video games involving building fighting vehicles (Space Engineers, Terratech, Sprocket, Robocraft) -Favorite character: ?? I like Orange from Touhou 4, but she's not well-known so I often say Reimu. -Favorite color: Orange lol -Hobbies: Making games, dancing, playing games Now you know a bit about me :) Feel free to ask any questions!1 point

I've joined this forum for the following reasons: 1. I am a chronic lurker, however this forum seems much simpler and smaller than others I browse, so I wish to utilize it in order to get more comfortable with posting. 2. Despite haven been a Touhou fan for 2 years, I've yet to directly engage with the community whatsoever. I've always felt that the essence of Touhou was in its community, and thus I feel that being so detached from it has greatly diluted by appreciation for it. 3. I generally just don't have many people to talk to. I departed from my previous online friend group a while ago, but I've grown much more reserved than when I first met them, so my efforts to attain a new one have been impeded. My primary interest is in philosophy, with history as a close second. My interest in philosophy, to me, is simply a reflection of a very holistic range of interests. I could say that I'm interested in biology, mathematics, and engineering, but I don't feel I have enough real knowledge or motivation to learn these subjects to really state that. Rather, I deem them a subject of my "philosophizing". When it comes to philosophy itself, I'm particularly interested in ethics and society, and occasionally dabble in epistemology and ontology. My only real hobby is thinking way too hard about everything ever, and then barfing it all up in incomprehensible walls of text with no regard for the reader whatsoever.1 point

When you peruse any of the download categories, you might now be able to see files from their subcategories without having to visit each one directly (main Downloads page excluded) Created the Articled drop-down menu in the top menu and moved some articles in there Related to the point above, we now have an article for a Touhou Link List (github link) so that you can find more Touhou through your source for all things Touhou Whatever else might have happened in over half a year of no one posting a site changelog1 point

Final Fantasy VII remains one of, if not the, most legendary video game releases of all time. I say "legendary," because while other titles may be more iconic, influential, or even prolific, I can't think of any that are held in such high esteem outside their general fandom. Well beyond the playerbase, there is an almost reverent familiarity with the characters, important moments, and music of this game. Uematsu was once again in charge of this soundtrack, which was adapted for the PlayStation system, but may have begun composition with the SNES still in mind. While the instrument sampling is more clear, it still retains an artificial sound that must be worked around to achieve the desired effect. Genre variety is more obvious, either because of the aforementioned sound improvements or possibly due to further experimentation by Uematsu. This works in the game's favor, allowing better tone and mood capturing through the music, but also weakens the soundtrack's cohesiveness as a collective work. For this reason, I think I prefer FFVI's OST, even as I acknowledge FFVII's as being the more technically superior production.1 point

Typically, I'm weary of showing my age on forums due to possible (even if unspoken) guidelines concerning age, but this forum seems to be lax on that. I'm currently in high school, and my biggest complaint is the sensory assault of it all. This is exacerbated by current meme culture resulting in my classmates incessantly reciting stupid ass brainrot terms such as "gooning", "edging", "rizz". Every day, all day. Man, that shit causes total psychic death. I'm currently awaiting a set of earplugs to spare me from their torment. Another one of my major complaints - in American schools atleast - is that the conditions are seemingly completely hostile to life. Half of the rooms have no sunlight whatsoever, opting instead for strain-inducing fluorescent lights, others have barely maintained vents which stink up the room with the scent of brain damage. I often contrast American schools with Japanese schools, I envy how open and organic they feel. Relative to the complaints of OP, these would probably be deemed trivial by most, but the sensory assault of school greatly affects me. It completely destroys my ability to do any sort of mental labor either during or after school, and results in weeks of stifled intellectual/creative activity; the sensory assault of school typically leaves me in a delirious state of mind. That being said, school for me is alright in pretty much every other domain. My school is orderly, I've never experienced bullying, and although I have a poor social status this was self-inflicted rather than imposed onto me. Given the sample of classmates, I've decided that social aspirations aren't for me. I've dedicated this period of my life to self-study while I sit in the waiting room for college.1 point

While it may seem hasty to follow up FFI with Final Fantasy VI, I only get five features total for this month, and there's a lot of ground to cover. Uematsu returns, this time composing for the SNES (though not for the first time), the sound system of which supported instrument sampling. I've had difficulty in the past appreciating the style of music made for this system; many composers would attempt to replicate an orchestral sound, but fail to balance the layers, seeming to prioritize instrumentation over tone. I suspect this was a consequence of system limitations being better than ever before while still unable to match ambition. In my opinion, the best soundtracks composed according to their limitations, adopting a unique style for the system. That being said, FFVI has surprised me in that it seems to do both. Many parts of the soundtrack are clearly inspired by cinematic orchestral arrangement, but succeed where other attempts have failed by keeping the melody clear and the atmosphere consistent. At other times, arrangements utilize a wider range of options for the system, incorporating and even relying on sounds that are very un-orchestral to achieve their tone. Perhaps in the several years it's been since I last tried this soundtrack I've become more acclimated to its sounds; regardless of the reason, I appreciated it much more this time around. I should also note the strong usage of leitmotif throughout the soundtrack. I don't claim to be especially skilled at recognizing leitmotifs, but there were enough obvious ones here to alert my attention. Every main character has a unique theme, and many of these motifs are integrated into other pieces, presumably for the relation of events to character arcs. I don't normally hear the technique used on this scale, and I'm not sure I'm capable of representing it here, but it impressed me nonetheless.1 point

kaguya: “i suspect it’s…” *the three of you stare at her, waiting for something to finally answer her question* ibunde: “answer! answer!” kaguya: “…” *she kept silent. there’s nothing. nothing* kaguya: “.. i don’t actually know!” kuyara: “seriously? that’s what we waited for?” kaguya: “what? that’s the name of the group-“ ibunde: “WHAT ITS THE NAME OF THE GROUP?!” kuyara: “they need some better naming” you: “yeah.. come up with some originality.” *the two girls nod in agreement then turn back to kaguya* ibunde: “so who are the members?” kaguya: “i have no true idea. yukari yakumo might have an idea” kuyara: “is that so? that sage?” *you kept silent knowing the two don’t know where she is actually* ibunde: “hey… might as well look for her! kuyara, come on!” *the two girls started to leave through the gate. until suika, yuugi, and kasen came through the gates, all drunk. suika drunkenly approached you while kasen and yuugi part ways into different areas of the village.* suika: “aha.. i have this syringe here.. i don’t know who should get injected and no idea what to do… AH!” *suika collapses on the ground and slept there but she slipped the syringe and it landed on your arm. kaguya holds you steady then she notices the ibunde and kuyara on the ground after the three oni burst through the gates.* kaguya: “you humans okay, though?” *the syringe has the effect into making one drunk. so you start to feel like passing out* ibunde: “kaguya! what’s going on?” kaguya: “the oni crashing it all again. try to ignore it.” *…and then you passed out* [part 4 soon!]1 point
