  1. So.... Hi i'm just someone who (around the time of late middle school/early high school) found random clips of Memories of Phantasm and said "woah it seems really good! What is this?" Then i started to dive down into the music and then one day i said "I want to learn more about this thing called "Touhou"!" And from there it became my favourite series and i became a passionate fan of it. Thanks to this wonderful site, i had the possibility to play the official games and not only did i do a Normal 1cc of every game i played (currently trying to complete Touhou 16) but i became a fan of shoot'em ups too! Also, Touhou made me start writing stories about the series, especially after i read other's fanfictions and fell in love with them too. So yeah, sorry for the long post or for the (likely) spelling mistakes (as English is my second language, i hope you can forgive me), but thank you Moriya Shrine for existing and i hope i can try to discuss the lore and the philosophy of Touhou with other people :)!

  2. As someone who has essentially planned out an entire shmup game, I’ve got a few ideas. For now, I’ll outline one from one of my OCs. Violet Raha: A satori youkai with the ability to manipulate senses and sensory information. Though not as heavily shunned as satori and Koishi, she has a friendship with each and acts as an errands runner for them every now and then. She wears a purple dress and has short bluish hair. She wears a black ribbon in her hair that has an eye on the middle. Her third eye connects and floats around her in one closed circle, unattached to her. She also holds a rapier she uses as a hobby to keep busy. Now with her character set, next is the card idea I had. As a stage four boss, she will have three cards. I however only have the idea for one currently, relating to her ability. To manipulate sense, she creates a “psychic wind” which then effects the target when hit. Thus, her final card mirrors that ability. Psychic Wind: Suffocating Darkness - A card where Violet uses her psychic wind to blind the player. This card starts with her firing a undodgeable wave, where it temporarily blinds the player. As their vision comes back, the pattern is set up and fires as soon as the player can see a little. It has two waves of lasers, one on left and one on the right. They shoot diagonally down, crossing over to create the holes the player must stand in. The blindness essentially is there to make the holes harder to find, as you have less time to read the directions of the lasers to find the holes. After wards, a wave of seeking lasers come and fire at the players, converging on their location when they appear. After this wave, it repeats phases. On average, you should have to do the darkness phase twice and seeking lasers once.

  3. Sorry Hikiko Hime, but there is official material that shoots holes through your theory. But first, the reason why the Hakurei shrine is a rundown place is because Reimu is trying to fix it up. Her ability to float has allowed her to walk across a river unknowingly without getting her socks wet because the fish jumped to allow her to walk across as the three fairies noticed when they tried to trick her into getting her socks wet. To add to that, Kasen Ibaraki made sure Reimu knew she was fighting someone because she bet on the opponent and knew Reimu would likely lose if she did that. Thus it can be assumed that the more Reimu tries to do something the worse that something gets done. The shrine is also in a perpetual state of poverty (Sounds like a game title: Touhou Kanraiden ~ Perpetual State of Poverty) because Reimu does her best effort to not be poor. There are frequent (enough) events at the Hakurei shrine that it would be weird if the "overly curious" as you put didn't get into at least one gathering at the Hakurei shrine. From the annual Spring flower-viewing held at the shrine to the parties to the one time Kasen presented her right arm as a museum piece in the shrine itself; I would actively disbelieve any attempts made to say that the Hakurei shrine is not a social gathering place for Gensokyo. Especially because Immaterial and Missing Power's incident revolves around there being too many parties at the Hakurei shrine. Yukari is also not the only one who can freely travel between Gensokyo and the outside world, Kasen Ibaraki can too. Yukari even laments on Kasen not taking what are essentially sterilization protocols causing western dandelions to invade Gensokyo, overthrowing the Japanese dandelion. Okina can too, but likely because of doors on the back of humans in the outside world rather than any backdoor boundary shenanigans (pun intended) and likely sterilizes like Yukari in her land of the back door. Reimu is also a lot more powerful than she lets on, as her last word of Imperishable Night, Fantasy Heaven, is stated by Marisa to both be something she can keep up for until the enemy is defeated and that she can do that technique whenever she wants. Something she can also do in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and Hisoutensoku. So it would be a stretch to say she can't deal with any potential unshackling of the true power of the Hakurei shrine's Kami. Though I do agree with the thesis that Gensokyo is the Kami of the Hakurei shrine as I see no issues it poses or can pose to already established canon that I happen to know of. For as far as I'm aware too, the Hakurei shrine does not have a special building to keep the holy object safe, suggesting that the object in question is either an ethereal thing or too large to steal; both of which fit Gensokyo to a T.

  7. Looks like I am back at the Shrine, but not with something I would have liked to talk to as one of the "rare instance of CvN coming back to the Moriya Shrine". However, as I do not think this will be visible anywhere else, I will just do it here: I have been using Pinterest for many years now (probably at least since 2019), but in recent times the platform started to have a lot of issues with the filtering of content. I wanted to express my own point of view on the situation on the dedicate subreddit, but surprise, surprise, my thread has been automatically removed the second I clicked "Post". And since no moderator actually answered since my original attempt at trying to contact them, I guess my second best option was to post in a place I am familiar with and perhaps would have helped make the situation a little more visible. Therefore, buckle in, this is going to be an experience of all times... (the original thread can be found here) I am a monster... ..at least in the eyes of Pinterest. A bit over a couple week ago, another user was talking about the issue of Pinterest reporting art for being... well, art. (second attempt at posting this thread; first time it was automatically removed, and I am still trying to figure out why) In the past month, I have started my own collection of art. Paintings that are usually found in museums, art galleries and the sort. But as I was adding new content to the gallery (either saved from other users of the platform or uploaded from Wikipedia), I ended up getting drowned in content violation reports. To be fair, it is partially my fault, as about half the collection represents nude paintings, and Pinterest really has been on the offensive recently against such content. However, if checking out the content guidelines posted by the guys themselves, it says very clearly that "[...] nudity in paintings and sculptures and in science and historical contexts is OK".* I did get quite a of reports, but the account is still running. For each violation report I got, I sent an appeal. In about 80-85% of the cases, Pinterest changed the status from "adult content" to safe. At some point, the whole board in itself was put under Limited Distribution, but following an appeal, it became perfectly safe somehow... The closest thing to that kind of content I have put was a painting by Courbet, and that was AFTER the reports started flowing just so I could take a piss on this whole situation. And it's not like I was posting outright porn images/videos and/or hentai like other users used to do (speaking of which, why did there use to be so many accounts with seemingly Indian-sounding names that were done solely for that kind of content?). I remember that, among the people who decided to follow my content, one of them was a gateway towards all the content to the kind as he was subscribed to thousands of accounts posting porn. My rule of thumb on Pinterest has been, at least until earlier this year, that "you are always 2-3 accounts away from finding porn". Recently, I have not received any new content violation report, so I guess they might have just given up? Or at least gave me a break. At least the attacks on classical art have ceased for now, but I still do understand why would they go after something anyone could see if they went to an art museum/gallery. That EU transparency report sure must have scared the shit out them... And since still on the topic of content rating, following all those reports, I have a single question: how did "La perle" by William-Adolphe Bouguereau end up being rated safe, while "The night accompanied by the geniuses of study and love" by Pedro Américo remains "adult content", I have no idea... (on a similar note to other people that got stupid repots, I also had a few for stuff like a painting depicting the battle of Dybbøl as "graphic violence" - and which Pinterest refuses to put back even now after appeals, and an the image of two tank miniature figurine kits, also blocked for "graphic content" - this time however, they did have at least one neuron left and put it back) UPDATE since the original attempt at posting: the period of calm is over. Reports are coming in again, and I am facing more and more the situation of a post having been reinstate after appeal, but getting reported again not long after. tl;dr - not even art is safe anymore With this in mind, I am not very sure what to say about the use of the platform. I am not really going to get out of it due to the sunken cost, and the fact I have worked for 3 years to build a Touhou fanart archive worth of over 26K images at the time of writing this thread. But in case the platform might decide to go more harsh and outright ban me, I am preparing contingency plans: mass download of all images, along with backups of the website through Internet Archive/Wayback Machine. I hope next time I can come back with something more positive. *Directly quoted from the community guidelines, "Content safety" section
