  1. Mon makes the most sense to me to be the currency of Gensokyo. Even though Yen would have existed for a few years before the barrier would go up, there is nothing backing up the worth of fiat currency afterwards. I believe the inhabitants would be more familiar with the Mon due to its longer circulation period. Also, there's an Ability Card in UM that clearly depicts Mon in it: There's also the golden tiles in UM that represent a currency for buying and trading Ability Cards. It's likely just meant to be an in-game sort of thing only, but I like to think it could be used in a fangame or something since it now exists as a type of currency in canon. Muenzuka is pretty much where outside world things turn up. From what I've read, objects from the outside world, especially tech, is kind of worthless. Rinnosuke found and identified Smartphones, and sold them at his shop as fancy paperweights in AFiEU. I don't really think there can be a smuggler ring given the microscopic list of characters who can freely pass through the barrier, and even less who'd actually care about that sort of thing. The only character I can think of who would might be interested in that is someone like Mamizou.

  2. Approved. The hungry girl is welcome. Definitely looking forward to seeing her reaction to the...unique qualities of the food.

  3. Name: Yuyuko Saigyouji Age: Dead(Ghost) Sex: F Species: Ghost Abilities: Manipulation of death, Manipulation of departed souls, Poetry Occupation: Head of Hakugyokurou Personality: She is very cheerful and friendly. In fact, her playful, good-humored personality, otherworldly beauty, and courtesan charm can have a disarming effect. She often makes bizarre and apparently nonsensical remarks and sometimes seems to overlook the obvious. Background:( I think this part will be obvious) Yuyuko, upon hearing of the Dreamy Cafe, decided to head to the Misty Lake alongside Youmu inorder to try out the food

  4. The first answer is actually relatively simple, as it’s one the locations’s purpose. Muenzuka is a spot in gensokyo where it’s very close to the border, so many things kinda just fall into gensokyo. This is where characters like rinnosuke, yukari, and many of the more treasure hunting types go out there to get strange goods. And as for currency, I imagine it’s a currency that’s “fallen to fantasy” so it’s likely either an older form of yen since Japan used it for awhile(iirc, yen was used in Meiji 18, when gensokyo was created), or an older unused currency.

  5. Jokes in the title aside, I had a question for the lore nerds. My understanding of Gensokyo is that things from the Outside World, while rare, do exist. Sometimes people come through with modern luxuries, like phones or packaged foods. And there are plenty of Humans and Youkai who farm, cook, blacksmith, do news reporting or any number of other services. My question is...is this trade of outside goods strictly goods which come through people who fall into Gensokyo? Or are there humans/youkai who occasionally go to the Outside World and bring things back with them? How do they trade for goods? I've never seen Gensokyo referenced to have its own currency. Given Zun's fascination with pre-Meiji Japan, I don't think it would be weird to see people use Mon or Ryo. Or would smelting gold be too impractical, and using outsider yen or dollars be easier? Or are most things exchanged through a barter system? Idunno. I thought it would be fun to talk about though!

  6. Finally home again. @MoeNwe and @Saathi, you two can jump in when you can. Don't let yourself be pushed by Juunimeta and Yankop's posts if you think you can only post now and then. Just join in when you can. You'll either be able to join them, or I'll throw plot hooks for your characters specifically. With Dreamy's first post out of the way, I think its time we work out what's next. I said before that if there was a tie, I would decide one or two RPs we could run. As it turns out, there was a tie. A four-way one. While I am glad all my ideas got some attention and love, it doesn't make narrowing things down to one or two ideas you all will love easier. So, a quick chat about what you'd like to see out of the game we do end up picking seems in order. Prepare yourselves.

  7. As Aya declined an order, the arm of the stranger girl dropped to her side dramatically. It was hard to tell on a face like hers, but she almost seemed to be scowling. Before slowly, she sunk behind the bar once more. There, she remained silent, until Aya called for a drink, some sort of pink bottle, marked with a trio of Yen. A single arm lunged out from behind the bar, shooting a thumbs-up from behind the counter, before the proprietor emerged again. As she emerged from behind the bar, walking purposefully towards the two, Kosuzu and Aya could get a better look at the owner. She was short, though not unusually so for a human. Beneath her long braids and the calm expression of her face, she wore a magenta dress, with a dark purple corset around her waist, and a jacket tied at the neck. Around her waist was a checkered length of cloth like an obi, which matched the tights she wore over a pristine set of buckled shoes. Without a word, she placed the bottle in front of Aya. It looked like a pretty standard Japanese soda. Probably strawberry. Its small size (compared to American sodas at least) made up for by its unique taste. The fun sound of a colorful marble bouncing inside added a playful element to the drink. But as Aya looked the drink over, it was hard not to notice something wrong. Bottled soda like this may have been a novelty in Gensokyo. But now and then, one would see a drink from the outside world. But while the bottle looked familiar, the label was definitely not written in any language of the outside world. The chaotic jumble of lines and curves vaguely resembled Katakana. But the way the logo looped around the label and onto the glass itself resembled no other bottled drink. Were one to turn the bottle around in one’s hands, the lettering just seemed to continue on, with no other writing visible. No manufacturer’s information or nutritional guide. Just the nonsensical name on the drink, looping around, until coming back to the front of the drink. Where the writing was different from when Aya first looked at it...

  8. AND HERE COMES BLONDIE, WITH THE STEEL CHAIR!!!!!! AND ITS A SMOOTH KNOCKOUT ON YUMEMI!!!!!! Day 31: Chiyuri Kitashirakawa Chiyuri is a neat character. Of course, she has the obvious steel chair meme, which immediately makes her mildly entertaining. Her design is generally kinda weak, and she is the weaker part of the duo with yumemi. Her lore isn’t as interesting, but it’s nice to see her as an additional part to yumemi. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have much to do without Yumemi showing up again. Overall, a neat character that’s a bit weak without another and has a funny meme.

  9. BAM. Dreamy Café is posted, open and ready to go. We'll start slowly, but it won't be long before conversations start and plot hooks begin to fly. Remember to take the game at your own pace. There is no rush, so getting into a chat with Marisa or an eating contest with Suika will have as much attention as foiling incidents, or investigating the cafe's secrets.

  10. @Yumetou I've updated the character sheet Name: Kosuzu Motoori Age: Unknown (younger that Akyuu) Sex: Female Species: Human Abilities: Deciphering books Occupation: Librarian at Suzunaan Personality: Sweet, considerate but also cowardly. She is worried about a lot of stuff even when she realizes that it sounds too stupid to be true. Background: She has known Reimu and Marisa for some time and she also likes to hang out with youkai like Mamizou Futatsuiwa despite Akyuu and Reimu saying that they shouldn't be trusted. She works part-time at her family's business, a book rental shop at the human village called "Suzunaan". She is good friends with Akyuu, due to their shared interest in books. She likes collecting books, as well as youma books, a rare book written by a youkai. She claims to have the biggest collection of them.

  11. Name: Alice Margatroid Age: somewhere between 18 - 20 Sex: Female Species: Magician Abilities: Doll Magic Occupation: Puppeteer Personality: People usually say that she's a cold person. (What part of her is 'cold', huh???) But it seems that she shows quite some hospitality to those who gets lost in the Forest of Magic. As she was once a human, she's pretty considerate of humans. Background: (Start of I'm going to put my headcanon here) Alice was a human learning magic who (somehow) found her way to Makai. By the time Mystic Square incident happened, she's become a half-youkai. (Consider that she can use the Grimoire and also called Reimu 'human', but can't see Yuuka when she followed Alice) It was some times after that incident that she became a complete youkai.
