Hi everyone. For those who care, the reason for my general absence from the forum recently is because I've been busy with schoolwork and catching up on some things I needed to do for quite a while (like the topic of this post, improving!). I've also experienced somewhat of a creative block as to what topic to talk about, so that's another reason. I'm not sure if I'll be as active as I was once I joined, but I'll try to at least reply to quotes and stuff. So, mindset. The most underrated aspect of every game that has a skill ceiling of some kind, and the one people overlook the most simply because it doesn't exactly involve your mechanics. "What is the point you're trying to make with this topic, kid?" Quite simple, I want to give you some examples of situations where having a bad mindset about something is severely detrimental to your performance and general enjoyment of X activity. Let's say you're playing a game, such as Touhou. You're struggling to fight a stage 2 boss, and constantly ends up receiving a game over. After some time, you'll start thinking in 2 ways: 1: "the fuck is wrong with me why am I so bad RAAAAAAAH" <-- The bad mindset. 2: "the fuck am I doing wrong lemme recheck, oh ok I should've moved this way etc etc" <-- The good mindset. You've probably got into one of these situations, and more often than not, people tend to go into the first situation. What this does is simply train your brain into immediately reacting in such way that you believe you're flat out trash (which sometimes you indeed are) and you'll never improve, etc etc. Do it enough times and you've basically engrained in your memory this form of thinking and it'll bring you down since you won't feel motivated to keep pushing the envelope and develop your skills further because your brain is always so damn negative about it. Now, if you were to take the good route, you'd analyze what you did wrong and what you can do to avoid this same mistake next run, and potentially break through the wall you've been struggling so much with. It then does the EXACT same thing as the previous scenario does, but instead of bringing you down, it brings your confidence up because you're trying your best to improve and learn from your mistakes. This, is what makes you a good player. There is something interest called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (comically abbreviated to "CBT"), which is basically a therapy in which you enforce your mind to change your way of thinking instead of reacting immediately to a certain situation, when you could have a positive outlook on it. Let's say someone you know passes by you on the street. You greet them, but they don't respond. Why is that? Some people will immediately take the depressive route and start saying things like "oh, they surely hate me" "have I done something to annoy them" "am I even loved" (ok that last one is kinda exaggerated but still) That's the result of a constant negative outlook about things, which can sincerely break people's will to even be around you sometimes. If this person I quoted above had simply thought something like "oh, they haven't heard me probably" or "maybe they're worried about something and aren't paying attention", it would have been a lot less negative overall and you wouldn't be let down so hard. I know this seems like I'm giving some really extreme examples, but I'll tell you: there are people who think like this. Maybe even some people close to you. This was supposed to only be about games, but it really applies to every kind of activity you want to be good at, be it sports, drawing, making stories, gaming, the works. Having a positive mindset about things ensures you'll always strive to better yourself and improve in a healthy manner, by analyzing your mistakes and correcting them, instead of just lashing out at yourself and those around you because you can't seem to get something right. I honestly don't even know why I made this topic, I'm really running out of things to say All I can say is, stay safe everyone, and please, please, if you're struggling with bad mindset or general negativity, try your best to think differently. Or, if it's that bad, visit a therapist, seek help to someone. Just don't suffer alone.4 points

As someone who plays splatoon with in a rank worth a damn (A Rank), mindset is huge. If you go and play after a bad day, odds are you will get frustrated and not improve. If you go in on a good day, you may improve because you aren’t predisposed to that negative mindset already. As someone who struggles with this kind of thinking, I try to stay away from certain games that would cause that mindset on worse days( which is definitely why I don’t play the bullet hells much ), as I’ll feel way worse. So yeah, mindset definitely determines progress.3 points

Oh, I love HELLOHELL! It's probably one of my favorite MSs of theirs since I started to actually catch those MSs as soon as they were released (which would be since May 2021 and VENTEN...). You truly are a man of culture Oh, I would definitely feel jealous about that too, so I can understand your feeling1 point

I've been listening to them for ~3 years and I really like them! While StackBros (who I'm 90% sure at this point is actually stack's brother, which in hindsight seems kind of obvious), Stack, and ACTRock are all great arrangers, what gives Akatsuki Records it's charm is definitely stack's voice. There's a lot of incredible Touhou vocalists (Some favorites of mine being Denki, Chata, Merami, IZNA, 556t, Ranko, Okogeeeechan, Fujiko, and Shuuzou) Stack is still my favorite. A friend of a friend got to shake her hand, and I'm pretty jealous. I also bought the album set they released around new years, and it came with a calendar and a freaking coloring book, which is awesome. One of my dreams is to go to Reitaisai some day, and while I'm there I'd love to shake stack's hand too.1 point

Here's a fun and intriguing topic. When one has put the effort into deciding upon an online alias, it's natural to wonder about the origins of the other names around you. Most often, a username is inspired by some life experience, personal interest, or inside joke, and thus can function as an amusing glimpse into someone's personality. Even the more impulsive choices reflect something of the user's mindset. In my early internet days, I used the moniker of "Thomas the Traveler," inspired by the triple T acronym I had adopted as a postscript (actually stands for "Truth Told Today"). For less interactive accounts, I utilized an old childhood nickname "Yozia;" this is still in use in a few places, such as my Bandcamp profile. As I became more active online, I wanted something that sounded more like a proper name; "Hisuag" was a bizarre misspelling applied to me at a job, and the situation was memorable enough to occur to me as a humorous possibility. As for "Ken" . . . I actually don't remember. Mayhap it was another instance of someone getting my name wrong (which happens fairly often).1 point

19. Diao Ye Zong - The Second Performance: Curse Deity Well I love this circle so I'm tempted to just give an 11 and be done with it. I really like that approach of storytelling they have with their music. This song itself in particular might not be one of my favorites but I love the combo of sounding kinda innocent for a bit and then bringing in some dark chord in there. And it does have a great rhythm to it, very jumpy you could say. Like a frog. Yeah. Ah what the hell, 10/10 20. C-CLAYS - The moon which was swallowed to a wolf Suika jumpscare. Gonna agree with Drunken here in that the energy is pretty much consistent all throughout, and so there's a lack of punch. I know it's not something noteworthy anymore but idk, the mixing of traditional instruments with synth sounds still gets to me a bit. It's good background noise, 7/10 21. UNDEAD CORPORATION - Kushinada-hime Dude got got by the previous Suika jumpscare. Undead Corp is a circle I don't listen to a lot, despite me usually being on the side of metal. Maybe that needs to change. That said this song in particular don't really do much for me, to the point where I don't really know what to say about it. It's nice, it flows well, it does what it needs to do and then it ends, and that's fine. 7/10 Sorry for the delay again, busy with stuff that I shouldn't plug in this thread.1 point

5 months since this started Diao Ye Zong - The Second Performance: Curse Deity Ah yes the greatest of all. As expected from RD the lyrics has a significant meaning. his expertise also extends to creating the perfect feeling for said story. tbh I have trouble commenting on this since it's too perfect. so i just end this here than random rumbling. no im not lazy at all noo,,, yeah... n.. yeah. 9/10 if not because i listened this 2147483647 times i would rate 10. Suwako story is always interesting. I was so close for submitting another Suwako story at the start, but in the end i didn't. Could've flawlessly fit in this round. C-CLAYS - The Moon which was Swallowed to a Wolf what does the wolf has to do with Suika? Opened quite nice actually, though the first transition to original theme is quite sudden I'd say. The track did a good work on keeping the energy balanced for the whole track, and also because of that it has lack of... punch(?). 8.5/10 nice party what does the wolf has to do with the party? UNDEAD CORPORATION - Kushinada-hime Oh i just listened to this album a while ago, the album is about old folktale and the origins of the demons and youkai. undoubtedly one of the best album from Undead Corp this song in particular is about The slaying of the Yamata no Orochi, in which Kushinada or Princess Inada took part in the story. The lyrics might be hard to understand without context but it makes total sense when you know Japanese mythology. I would dare to say that the original melody doesn't quite fit with the story it's telling. The original theme feels a bit too festive for a battle story. nonetheless still a great arrangement. 9/10 did we have another Undead Corp last tournament? i forgor. i should start collecting curse themed music1 point
