There's something I never really understood about these Mommy and stereotype videos, like how I don't understand these "what your favorite character" or "thing" says about you kind of content. For I know it could mean absolutely nothing, these kind of videos could just be classified as clickbait (as Canaranjo pointed out) so I don't pay any mind to it. Besides, I haven't watched all the videos by Suwawako so I can't make statement on how I feel about the entire thing other than apathy. As for the meme videos: they were a byproduct of a trend seen within the Touhou community to express there... interests towards the characters. But than it evolved into something more meta but even than it became stale after awhile. As with alot of memes and videos of Touhou on YouTube it all overstays it's welcome and becomes repetitive and dull. There's no creativity or edge behind them, just memes and shitposting. That isn't to say there can't be fun to be had with making fun of certain fans but unless someone has the courage to do such a thing then I wouldn't get my hopes up (as cynical as that sounds. That's about it I guess.3 points

Episode has been announced Again, it has been presented as the series finale. And in a way, I would feel extremely glad if it just ended here. The series has been going for ove a decade now, it was becoming a bloated mess the more it went on. To me, the series felt quite rushed towards the end. Especially when out of 12 minutes of screen time, almost half, if not half of the video is the intro & outro segments, the episode recap and the teaser for "next time". Which leaves you with a bare 6 minutes aft actual show, in which they both need to rush the story and bloat a lot of time on a single boss if they are a Stage 5 character or higher. Also we shall not speak about Mokou's extra story. That was basically an arc within another arc at how long it was (3 episodes). But I will let you take a look at the video itself first, then we can come back and debate it.2 points

Basically what the title says. I personally (among MANY others) learnt about it through Bad Apple. Specifically, I was scrolling through the playlists of a YouTuber called GD Colon and found one called "haha weeb". I got interested (as at the time I started watching a lot of anime) and checked it out. It was full of Japanese songs, one of which was Bad Apple. If I remember correctly, I learnt that Touhou was actually a video game series through either the comments on the Bad Apple video or from Megapig9001's video explaining it. I got this video recommended after watching the original Bad Apple and then another video titled "Bad Apple but the lyrics are describing what happens in the video". Luckily, I keep a lot of stuff (more like I am data-hoarding) so I got all the dates of the events so if anyone is wondering: 2021/11/13 - First time listened to Bad Apple 2021/11/19 - Watched "Bad Apple but the lyrics are describing what happens in the video" 2022/01/06~17 - Went through a Bad Apple phase where I watched a lot of these videos with bad apple played on literally anything 2022/01/23 - Downloaded Touhou 61 point

This is a brief return, albeit in a lite form, towards the old reviews I used to make towards different bits of Touhou media created by the Western side of the community. And what better pick for the 1st April but stereotypes associated with Touhou characters and the people who like them? (DISCLAIME: stereotypes are just that, stereotypes; it does mean they universally apply, or that all people who like x or y are in a specific way). The history of the Western community talking about stereotypical associations within the fandom does not seem to be so old (at least as far as I am aware, but I might be wrong as I have only been around for 2 years). Therefore, we have to start with the first person who has put it in video form, that one being... 1) Beastmaster Zeman On the 27th December 2020, a video titled "What your favorite Touhou character says about you" made its debut in many people's YouTube feed. Made as a satire, the video covers characters from Touhou 6 to 17 (latest game at the time), while mostly skipping annex official content such as manga and music CDs: Despite the fact that most of the time the video is throwing a lot of cheap jabs at fans of specific characters, there are still a few quotes I have noted on the side: "Reimu - you're pretty basic" "Marisa - you are slightly less basic, but still pretty basic" "Cirno - you're fucking Heavy main, aren't you?" "Koakuma - you don't have a girlfriend" "Patchouli - fucking nerd" "Sakuya - you are so basic on levels I cannot even describe" "Flandre - you spent more time in the fanon than in canon" "Alice - you are a square" "Youmu - you like this character despite her being a cuck" "Keine - yeah I don't I don't know what happened, but I ended up fucking my teacher" [zoom on the chest area of the Keine fanart used] "Eirin - the joke here is that you're a Hanzo main" "Aya - you have a strong sense of political opinion" "Yuuka - you want to be stepped on" "Eiki - you complain about other people being lazy, despite being lazy yourself" "Nitori - [deep fried] - I'M CALLING THE POLICE" "Sanae - you wanted to like Reimu, but she doesn't have tits so you upgraded her and she became this" "Suwako - for today's sponsor, PearlDrop" "Parsee - again, who?" "Yuugi - the person that liked Yuugi punched me in the face and shoved me in this locker" "Satori - your search history probably has a lot of Touhou hentai in it and I do not want to look at it" "Orin - you are a decent human being. She has a character design that is pretty decent, and her story is pretty decent as well. Good job." "Unzan - YOU'RE A FUCKING CHAD!" "Byakuren - tits" "Nue - you like Nue because she looks like your very first OC" "Tojiko - you guys insist on making this character fucking thick" "Seija - you know that one kid in your class in kindergarten that would always eat crayons? Yeah that's you" "Raiko - you're that one kid at guitar center that can't play the drums, but decides to ruin everyone else's day by playing the drums" "Kasen - you read the manga you fucking nerd" "Sumireko - [long silence] GET OUT" "Seiran - you thought Reisen is too mainstream" "Sagume - oh yes write more fucking Wattpad fanfics about Doremy and Sagume" "Junko - you have a god complex" "Hecatia - you want to fuck a god complex" "Joon - you're a gold digger" "Nemuno - reject humanity, return to monke" "Aunn - I think of you to be quite the chad, my friend" "Urumi - i should just put a picture of Urumi's tits in the fucking thumbnail and I'll call it clickbait" "Mayumi - fuck, I'm out of ideas... I don't know, you like dildos?" "Keiki - all you do with your life is play Minecraft" 2) The XG3E era At the beginning of 2022 (7th January), another stereotype was born, or at least was greatly brought up in the attention of the public. I will not add too much in this category, as the video speaks for itself. It became a significant point for the Touhou community in the west for at east half a year, for the better or the worse... 3) Suwawako and the Touhou Stereotypes series A third iteration of the idea of "Touhou stereotypes" was born on the 16th August 2022. The then-rising channel of Suwawako entered the world of talking about fanas and what characters they are associated with, and we ended up with a series of 7 videos. Actually, the release of the final video was one of the main reasons for which I delayed this thread. Overall, the series was a major improvement over the video from Zeman. It started strong, but through time it seemed like losing steam the more it went in. However, it is still worth perhaps giving it a brief view, without taking things so seriously. Here is a brief synopsis: Part 1 - covers Touhou 6 and 7, along with the CD and manga-exclusive characters Part 2 - covers Touhou 8 and 9 Part 3 - covers Touhou 10 and 11 Part 4 - covers everything from Touhou 12 to 13.5 Part 5 - covers everything from Touhou 14 to 15.5 Part 6 - covers the characters from Touhou 16 to 18, with a teaser at the end for a final video going into the retro era FINALE - covers the PC-98 era characters The videos: I am not so sure if I should go into extracting stereotypes from this one, but probably the one association that caught my attention in the whole series was that for those who like Akyuu from Part 1 of the series: "Historians. Akyuu fans share a bit between Kosuzu and Yukari fans. They are likely historians that enjoy reading the history of their interests, whether it be stuff they learn in class or history of freaking Fumos for goodness sake. Akyuu fans probably know it all. They likely watch the lost media channels like blameitonjorge, LsupersonicQ and Sakura Stardust. Finding and documenting the obscure is an occupant favorite pastime. They are pretty mature considering that Akyuu in universe is... [shows image of Akyuu's age at her manga debut back in 2006]. Oh, oh no... These people are very rare to find, likely due to them searching for lost media or reading books with their Kosuzu fan friend or something like that. And if you're probably an Akyuu fan you probably have read the Forbidden Scrollery which isn't exactly that well known to newer fans" I am extremely surprised. Finally, a stereotype that actually sounds positive, and one, give or take my personal bias, is actually quite accurate. As someone whose favorite character is Akyuu. I am pleasantly surprised to say that I am actually fitting into the description for most of the part. I really like studying history, I am quite curious for more obscure stuff, and right now I am trying to document in a (currently 50 pages long) research about the armored units, acquisition policies and equipment used by the Romanian armored units through the interwar and Second World War era. Sadly, I still lack a Kosuzu friend, but at least I also do have Kosuzu in my personal top 10 2hus. Well, with all this in mind, I will just leave here my updated Touhou sorter. It is open to any discussion, and I really wonder what do you think about any of the stereotypes mentioned. Or maybe you have some of your own stereotypes, which might be even more interesting.1 point

Knowing all that would definitely have boosted my rating up to 8.9 or even 9. Also goes to show that, even if you can read the lyrics, there's sometimes more to understanding them.1 point

yoirone - Misty Morning There are some epic arrangements of this track out there, but I thought this laid back style suited it better. It also stands out from my usual options. 5crow3 - Beloved Tomboyish Girl Based on the translation results, I think the title's supposed to be a pun, but I can't be sure. I was trying to be careful with picking for this one; as one of the more heavily memed tracks in the series, options range across every imaginable style and mood, making the decision of what to use decided too easy. I went with this one because it managed to incorporate a humorous tone without being entirely structured around it (being coupled with Oriental folk makes this an ideal arrangement for the associated character imo). Boberon (a.k.a. Bob NL) - March of the Chinese Warrior I had a very specific tone in mind while searching out this remix. I wanted something full, but relatively low energy, perhaps somber. I should know better than to entertain such expectations; they inevitably make the process more difficult. Regardless, this fits pretty well; the instrument quality is rather subpar, but that's always been an issue with this artist. What I wanted to avoid was something high energy (rock, metal or techno) or anything folk (felt too obvious).1 point

I first discovered touhou through Bad Apple and Marisa stole the precious thing! It wasn't until I finished Luna Nights years later, that I wanted to get involved with the community and try out the official games. Then I played SA for the first time and I fell in love with the characters and music even more. I haven't stopped enjoying the series since then!1 point

I got told about touhou from a friend when we played osu together, and that's why I never even knew what touhou was, even though I had listened to covers and songs from the games themselves. I later had my first "touhou game" be Touhou Luna Nights, and back then I didn't even know the names of the most important characters in the franchise (namely Marisa and Flandre, etc) but had interest in the story the game offered + the personality of the characters. A while later I finally got th06 (EoSD) and played it for a while. I just got destroyed, as I should be, and abandoned the game shortly after. I did not, however, lose interest in Touhou as a whole. I kept playing touhou related games, kept listening to songs, kept watching touhou content, etc. to this day. Been about 3 or 4 years since I first found out about it, and it made quite a big impact on my life. Way too lengthy of a response but honestly I don't really care1 point

For me, lost word was definitely my tipping point into the series. I had kinda heard of touhou from tumblr posts I read about, so I tried to check it out but had no luck because I had no computer to run it on. Well, around October 2021 I decided to look on the App Store and ended up with lost word. Now, the point I define as me getting into the series was March 15 of last year, as thatβs when I first played EoSD and ended up loving it.1 point

For me, it's a weird story. I have been aware of the "Ran Ran Ruu" video since ~2008. Then, playing Ys and Etrian Odyssey, some people mentions that Touhou too had a good soundtrack. All I knew at that point was that it was a bullet-hell game. Then, more recently (late-2021), I no longer got hyped on the newer Ys games (and Trails), Etrian Odyssey died with the 3DS, Atlus didn't released anything interesting except cheap Persona5 related stuff and an underwhelming SMT5. My backlog was getting pretty empty, and by coincidence, there was a sale on Steam for XSeed, the localizer of the older Ys games. In that list of games, there was a Touhou fan-game, Scarlet Curiosity, which was a clone of the older Ys game that I liked a lot. It seemed a bit "less-refined", but I decided to give it a go, knowing it was a fan-game (I was planning on trying the real Touhou game after that game). While clearing that game, I got into the Extra dungeon, and in there, the Extra boss was waiting. Her theme's remix was a heavily different from her original theme, so it took a good 1m30s before I finally recognize the music: the same music as the Ran Ran Ruu. I was mind blown, and I knew exactly what happened: I somehow managed to avoid ANY reference to the original theme during all those years, which means I could have known about Touhou MUCH earlier. I have never been much of a "meme-guy", but the "Ran Ran Ruu" meme always stuck with me for some reason. Also, I knew about IOSYS because they did an Etrian Odyssey song about "FOE" (yet again, somehow completely avoided their other songs that are Touhou-related). It was fate at this point, I HAD to play the Touhou games. I searched "Touhou game" online, and quickly found this site (which I learned was a piracy-site later, but since most Touhou games can't be bought anyway, it didn't matter. Today, I bought almost all the main game of Steam), then downloaded Touhou 6. I got beaten pretty badly on Normal, and thought the Extra Stage was just something I would never tackle Fast-Forward to today, I cleared all games on Normal and Hard with all shot-types (including PC-98 and some spin-off). Currently, I am doing Lunatic, and cleared 1,4,6-10 and their Extra stages (all shot types for the main games, just one for the Extra). Currently at 11, where I only cleared the main game with ReimuA and cleared Extra with ReimuB. It was quite the trip.1 point

I like them cause they made my personal favorite and the best(imo) 2hu doujin circle composition ...and likely the most badass too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb5E9668ISo- "The Spirit Puppet"1 point

For me, it's been quite a long story. And literally one that would be way too long to write again in here. Therefore, why I have put it as a thread in my early days at the Shrine, and will just link below. To cut the story short, it was in the second half of 2020, and involved a chain reaction caused by me discovering Rhythm Heaven first, then from there evolving into Touhou. However, the thread has the full story of what actually happened...1 point

Funny you should mention that... Well, I have figured a way to get back spoiler tab access, so now I shall proceed with what I was going to say. Normally I would wait until the end of the tournament before talking about songs, but there's something I want to talk about right now.1 point
