Before reading any further, vanyk has done some research and corrected some information I posted down below, check it out if you're interested.

Hey, it's me again, I got curious because I don't know who that character is but apparently she's from an official touhou book, and other series, mangas . More info:

https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Hieda_no_Akyuu

It also seems that event is quite big, I know she is dying because of this person again:

https://x.com/richard_effendi/status/1820799484927815749

And there's going to be a wake on the 24th of August 2024, 16:30 JST (info from the twitter post above) idk what wake means im gonna search it up, ok I searched it up, here u go if u don't know:

https://foxandweeks.com/the-differences-between-a-funeral-and-a-wake#:~:text=For example%2C a wake is,death of a loved one.

According to this post, the reason she'll pass away is this (I'm sorry I haven't read the lore from the book, so I think the reason is from this source here, oh wait, the reason why is also in the touhouwiki link I just put up):

https://x.com/DragoDX2/status/1820812472384909349

So yeah, are you guys going to be there? I probably would be back to school by then.

Rest in peace, Hieda no Akyuu.

I will give explanations here.

First of all The Child of Miare cannot live past 30 years, because long before Hieda no Are made a agreement with Yama to begin the reincarnation cycle and keep memory from previous lives. So she could make the Chronicle how to defend against youkais and to make humans safe.

Hieda no Akyuu was born on the seventh month (Fumizuki) on Season 109 (lunar calendar used by youkais (and tengu)). As it was calculated long before by Japanese Touhou Wiki Fumizuki begins on the 7th of August and ends on the 6th of September (recalculation) (but to be honest this may be not accurate, but here we will think it is accurate). Season counts years from the time when the Great Hakurei Barrier was made, which started 60 years cycle. From here we know that PoFV happened on Season 120 and events of PoFV happened in 2005, so Akyuu was born in 1994. Also we know that Aya publish around 4-5 issues per month and the issue with info about Akyuu birth was the first in Fumizuki (but it may be a week number, not the issue number). So the article was published between around August 7th and August 15th. It was the date of release of article, but as we could see from manga it doesn't take a lot of time (around a day) to publish such news (but from here there are some thought that for some news it may take more time to collect data like for Hakurei shrine rebuild). So we may consider that Akyuu was born between August 7th and August 15th (but such calculations are not very accurate).

There have been a lot of memes about the death of Akyuu, but ZUN stated (sorry cannot find the source, maybe this) that Touhou has "Sazae-san time" time, so nobody ages and nobody will die. But fans are interested if ZUN will kill Akyuu because of her lore or he wouldn't because of "Sazae-san" and not to make Akyuu fans sad. That is why a lot of people talk about it.

First off, thank you for being an active member and always bringing interesting touhou content to the forum and the community. Your research is very impressive. I don't know how you found all of that.

What you said is why it shows that it is always important to show the source of anything you found. But I don't know how Icefairy knew it was a wake when in the picture that they retweeted, at 16:30 just shows question marks "??????????". So that is quite....odd.

Also when you talk about the time and issues and stuff....it feels kinda complex to me, idk maybe I'm dumb as hell lol.

lol, when I saw what was stated on touhouwiki and what was said on twitter why Akyuu will pass away, I thought that those two explanations what conflicting. But now that you said the actual reason, it's all clear to me now.

Thank you for your posts. I found a lot of Japanese posts by searching "Akyuu" (阿求), plus I knew there was some info about it on English and Chinese wikis (I love the Chinese version of Gensokyo Chronology article, because there are a lot of explanations and comments about how they calculate everything).

First of all I don't know why Icefairy thought it will be related to Akyuu (I have not found any Japanese posts about this topic, but I may be wrong and there are some post about this somewhere (but I have not found them)).

I don't know why touhou_station decided to put question marks instead of declaration of Touhou Vote results in the image on their twitter account. Maybe just to troll, maybe that is how they wanted to show uncertainty (of the results), maybe something else.

That is why I (try not to forget to) put sources for my statements, so everyone could check them.

I just wanted to show all the assumptions we make to calculate Akyuu birthday. I will try to explain more clear:

We have here two calendars: ours (Gregorian) and youkais' (lunar). What is important here is that all dates in Bunbunmaru are in lunar calendar. Years in lunar calendar are called Seasons.

Events of PoFV happened in 2005 in spring. There is a news article about events of PoFV in Bunbunmaru which was released some time later. The Season there is 120, so Season 0 (lunar calendar) was in 1885 (Gregorian calendar).

The article about Akyuu's birth was released in Season 109. 1885 + 109 = 1994, so we know a year when she was born.

The month when the article about Akyuu's birth was released is Fumizuki (lunar calendar). After some calculations (which I will omit) we can get that Fumizuki starts on August 7 and ends on September 6 (Gregorian calendar), so 31 days long.

But there are around 4-5 Bunbunmaru issues per month and the issue about the Akyuu was the first. 31 / 4 = 7.75, we will assume it as 8. 7 + 8 = 15, so the article was released between August 7 and August 15. We can assume that the isuue was released quickly, so Akyuu was born in 1994 between August 7 and August 15.

By her lore she cannot live past 30, so she is supposed to be dead by between August 7 and August 15 in 2024.

I hope this explanation is bettet.

Wow, I didn't expect that you would write an explanation just for one person (me) to understand more clearly. I appreciate that, thank you! I do understand it very well now.

Going to be honest I’m more interested on whether or not this is going to actually impact Gensokyo in a story sense as she is a pretty notable figure and whether or not ZUN would actually follow through with doing it.

Speculating on her death day isn’t really that interesting until ZUN makes it official on her death and if that had any impact to Touhou as a story.

I don't think it will give a really big impact on Gensokyo itself if Akyuu dies (well, Kosuzu will be really sad about that). But I think it may give some impact on the human village. He is making a new printwork, maybe he would give some information about it there.

I agree, but there is a chance that he would just avoid this topic.

Update:

Guys, they admitted it, they lied, that was surprising, but why did they lie? Oh well, so that's that

https://twitter.com/richard_effendi/status/1821886649661321351

So like vanyk said, it was actually the popularity poll vote result or something. I kinda don't want to vote man, feel kinda lazy. Last time I post about the poll was last year, but after I posted it, I went straight to being busy, lol.

Does anyone wants to vote ?
