Character colour change

I just found out today that you can change the colour of the playable characters in both Touhou 3 and 7. I personally really like Marisa's colour change in touhou 3, the white outfit really suits her.

Wow, I didn't know those games had that, Marisa looks like an angel with those colors :O

 

I understand touhou 3 would have that for two-player mode, but why does touhou 7 have it? (I have not played pcb before)

I also wonder if the color limitation of the PC-98 had an issue with different character colors.

I think these was just a neat easter egg that ZUN added, i'm guessing that this was pretty easy to colour swap since the sprites for the older games weren't that complicated.

 

In touhou 3, you change the colours of the playable characters by pressing X while having them selected. In touhou 7, you change their colours by holding Shift and pressing Z on the keyboard while selecting them. From what i know, these are the only games with these feature. If anyone can correct me on if more Touhou games allow this, please tell me.

That's so cool! I didn't think it would be hidden like that. Maybe then, there are other hidden colors in the other games...

All the touhou games seem pretty simple in terms of gameplay, so I never would have considered easter eggs like that.

By the way, I'm not sure if this counts because it's not a "hidden feature," but the fighting games let you change colors. At least, 12.3, the one I played, has this feature.

I'm assuming the other 2-player games (touhou 9, 19) also let you change color? Not sure about that though.

 

I like that 12.3 gives a LOT of options for colors. Orange reimu and orange okuu look awesome :)

Touhou 19 doesn't have a option for changing colour, probably since changing all the sprite's colours in a game with more complex sprites would take too much time. touhou 15.5 also has a option for changing colours but unlike 3 and 7, it isn't a easter egg.

Yeah th9 also lets you change your color as well. I think it was either left shift or left control before you start to play. Its how you can differentiate between two of the same characters in an mp 1v1
