Piracy in Official games could be a thing, but how about some fangames? It's bad too?

Hello, so long no seeing this site, uh? Im here to start a new topic with a question

I always think about this question since i was starting to play some fangames. And now there is already so many discussions of this before but this is a bit different because how fangames works.

Piracy in Touhou Proyect Fangames can actually be not good?

But in my opinion, i actually got an awnser for this question...

It depends on the fangame you are gonna to ilegally install.

So one of the games i have installed was "Dangerous Patchouli, Moya no Tabi 4", and i think it's one of the games i think it's reasonable to install like this (as far i can say it softly).

DangerousPatche-sanMoyanoTabi4.jpg.899fd0bec716fb618f8b732d992554a0.jpg       One of the most cute and go foward metroidvanias i have played.

The thing about this is that, this game is made by a group known as "UTG Software" and realesed in a Comiket from Japan. First thing is that... yeah, OBVIOUSLY im not going to Japan to get it for sure (Or going to a Wierd Japanese site to get the game's disk). It not only be hard but also it would cost even more to do, so nope thanks... Or maybe i can go their official site and see if i have luck, some fangames have their official sites to download the game, MegaMan Maker is an example i could remember first.
Fortunately, while exploring Nue Operation BigBurn's files (Another of UTG Software game) i have found their official site... All right, let's take a look, may it has more game to explore!

                                                                                                                                                                                                   (It looks like this)

                    image.thumb.png.89d4e919c665c80f6eff3bde6181aaf8.png

                                                               ITS COMPLETLY CONTENTLESS!

I'ts actually kinda odd, it says that they gonna update the site, but it's still like this since 2021 (Not that far to be honest) The only thing i can say, is that there is, which i guess is a personal Twitter/X account from the leader of the group (I guess). There is no much to say here more than it's completly casual Twitter/X account.

But there is still some more games who perhaps it have even worse situations than the anothers. Just gonna say the only one who i think there is no excuse to "no purchase it because it hard to get" are literally every Steam game (I don't have Steam so I didn't bother to search there). I you have enough money and want to play a fangame, GO get for it legally!

May i can get most of the game if i manage to get a mastercard. I'm still a little man but it only take me less than a year to be a 18'er so who knows.

But, what do you think about this, Fangames who are hard to get are fine to be pirated?

Piracy generally stems from 2 things: the price and the accessibility of the pirated product. In this case you ran into the latter reason because had they provided you with a good service that got you to the game you were clearly willing to purchase you would have.

Of course, you must keep in mind that I am a European (is it now a European or an European?), and I encourage you to come to your own conclusion.

A good rule of thumb to know whether people in general would consider pirating a product, whether that be a game, a book or a music disc, is the service. If Nintendo put their legacy games on a modern console and/or let people who own the legacy systems buy the legacy games, chances are people would buy those games instead of pirate them illegally.
The price is also a factor, but that is because games are a very cheap type of luxury for the middle class most of the time... So when that class can't afford the game, like in Brazil where games on average cost a quarter of their minimum wage, of course they're going to pirate it because people are not going to pay that much for a small luxury.

A combination of the two reasons would be people pirating movies. Netflix mostly stopped people from doing that because it was a relatively cheap platform that had a very large catalogue of basically every single movie under the sun. Then the streaming boom happened and those movies were now scattered around places, with each area being locked behind a monthly subscription paywall which, as you've likely already guessed, caused people to pirate movies again.

You then also have the case of companies no longer providing support for the older games and making anyone that just wants to play those games pay for another game that has the older game in it in order to maximize profits; which in my opinion is companies overstepping their bounds and should be pirated, not bought, in order to send a message to whatever greed-infected being thought that was a good idea.

Those are the good ways piracy is used, there is also a gigantic amount of rotten apples who just want free games without the hassle of actually working in order to buy them, but it is safe to assume that none of us belong to that group. I personally find that the work that has to be done in order to buy a work to be a part of the satisfaction of the work.

I also pirate games if I'm unsure of whether or not the price they charge is worth the value I get out of it, with whether or not I buy it being dependent on my own judgment (largely favouring the company). But those are the reasons that I base the ethics of piracy on.

For me it's a mix of accessibility and quality, IE I'm American and speak English, couple that with the prebuilt PC I bought doesn't have a CD drive and I've no reason to go uber out of my way to buy the games when it's far easier to just download a prepatched version here.

it quite literally depends on how available the games are in the west. this is why the official games are so pirated because while a few newer ones are available at steam, they are arguably overpriced and do not come in english, you can tediously install the english patch but this also doesnt mention the older games that would be lost media in the west if not for pirating. same goes for fangames. if a game isnt 80 dollars or not in any other languages or is not available readily on platforms like steam itch etc than yes it is justified
