Pinky Cat Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) Alright, as part of research to create a timeline for fan activity within Western Touhou Fandom, I discovered a some neat info about a lost Touhou circle called Distant Union. Distant Union was a circle in the United States that published physical Touhou fan books alongside pdfs online. This was paired with an online store site called Doublepuma Store. Distant Union appeared to be active from 2013 to 2014. https://web.archive.org/web/20141221052720/http://distantunion.com/works.html https://web.archive.org/web/20130520135541/http://doublepuma.bigcartel.com/ https://doublepuma.com/doujin/ The members involved within the circle, going by the their work’s credits, included Leo Modesto, Rubin, Jelajade, Siegmund, and DL. As for who these members were, they were all artists that did Touhou art and were all once active on Tumblr. Leo Modesto is now called Lina, who was the creator of the Ask Udonge blog. https://askudonge.tumblr.com/ https://www.tumblr.com/rabbitlegs Rubin is an artist and was also the creator of the Ask Kogasa blog. https://www.tumblr.com/ask-kogasa https://rubindraws.tumblr.com/ Jelajade is an artist who now works on comics. https://jelajade.com/ https://mspabooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=12197 Siegmund is an artist. https://x.com/SieggyStardust https://web.archive.org/web/20130607110831/http://fluffychainsaw.tumblr.com/ DL is an artist. https://dlanon.carrd.co/# https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/4632687 Works Update: All of their works can be downloaded on: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/works.html The spoiler below describes secondhand accounts on the works before the discoveries of Distant Union's works themselves, so it has been kept for historical usefulness. Spoiler Raiders of the Lost Ask Box by Leo Modesto can be found on Lina’s Art Gallery https://www.udomyon.com/art/pool/view/16 The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 1 and The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 2 were collaborative fan books, though only their cover images remain thanks to Touhou Tuesday. He mentioned he loved the scrabble story and the story about Wriggle and Yamame in The Gensokyo Menargerie Vol. 2. https://web.archive.org/web/20130514141854/http://doublepuma.bigcartel.com/product/the-gensokyo-menagerie-vol-1 https://www.facebook.com/TouhouTuesday/posts/553218481414641/ https://www.facebook.com/TouhouTuesday/posts/after-a-lot-of-moving-around-i-was-finally-able-to-read-my-copy-of-gensokyo-mena/555081991228290/ Over My Hot Youkai Body by Jelajade appears to have no record online left, so this work has become completely lost media. Lina’s Art Gallery has two other Touhou pools called One Awkward Visit (2013) and Youmu's Birthday (2013) which were both stated to be published in a fan book, likely in one of the Gensokyo Menagerie volumes. https://www.udomyon.com/art/pool/view/17 https://www.udomyon.com/art/pool/view/18 Connections It appears that Touhou Tuesday had some connection with Leo Modesto as there are podcast episodes and Facebook posts where he advertises to his audience to buy Raiders of the Lost Ask Box and The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 1. I have seen your list of Touhou links, it is great. I hope your researches on Touhou fandom go well. Thank you for your post. Your researches on Distant Union are really impressive. I have not heard about this circle before. You found a lot of interesting information about them. I can only congratulate you. Distant Union's lost media is added to the first post.

I am really sorry for this. Moriya Shrine does not have the latest version of the game. The updater can be downloaded here (took here). Denist Posted August 26, 2024 Posted August 26, 2024 Found some info about Sanae Shooting, namely a trailer for the game itself and a couple more things. The site with the demo version has a Falsh player element. When trying to play it using an emulator, it gives an error. The error shows that the player had a link to a video from Niconico embedded in it. And the video itself is gameplay by the game developer. Here is the video itself and a link to the channel: https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm13131369 https://www.nicovideo.jp/user/925893?rf=nvpc&rp=watch&ra=video_information The author also has a page on Pixiv. Denist Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Hi, I want to share my findings again. https://gensokyo.club/ - there are several saved pages. Here is one of them: https://web.archive.org/web/20230603190106/https://gensokyo.club/main/all Most likely it was some kind of forum or something like that. 東方] ハルノカケラ (the first ever Touhou 3D animation (2005) - found this video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePuDoSKPrq4 東方秋神録 ~ Every day of Autumn - are you sure you found the game? There is only a demo version on the site and I can't download it. I tried to go to other versions of the page, but all to no avail. And a little about Sanae Shooting. In addition to Pixiv, the author has other social networks, such as Twitter. They can be found in the author's blog: https://web.archive.org/web/20131211064653/http://tofuyasanae.blogspot.com/ 1

There are a lot of torrent mirrors of demo version of this game from Comiket on btdig. The game was discontinued and only demo version exists. But you can listen to ost here. vanyk Posted August 29, 2024 Author Posted August 29, 2024 Hello. There is a little summary of changes in list in July and August. First of all I want to thank again Pinky Cat and Denist for helping with this list and finding new info: Fan books by Distant Union, The Crowd Shooting, Sanae Shooting, gensokyo.club and other media. Other lost media: Roka Enzaki's channel was deleted with a lot of Touhou Styled Music. Sadly, Suika Ibuki channel hid all videos because of copyright strikes. Added a lot of info about lost fan anime: Touhou Hakureisou, Danmaku!! Animated Series, Meteors of Triple Dimension. Added more info about Nikenme Radio streams and Which Came First, Hakurei Kannushi's Games or Beer? (I want arts from this one) Thanks to the document by Mad_Dog_of_Fujiwara and her lore den (it seems like they are the only ones who gathered info about these in one place). That's all for now. 1
Denist Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 (edited) Hi, long time no see! This time there will be very few, and very dubious, but still finds. 1: Touhou on nicktoons??? I found a video from one guy, where they supposedly show a fan animation of touhou on Nicktoons. At the same time, he called the video lost media, and in the description it says that he downloaded it from some remote site. Honestly, it looks very much like a fake, but I decided to share. I would not pay much attention to this, if the same video was not posted on another channel. Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0b0efh64Qg https://youtube.com/shorts/NYxQemsnqMw?si=8ZuClr7hvzQ689rC https://youtu.be/mXhaZbv-m1s?si=DYYf8jT8BmMesIu5 2: KKHTA P*rn... Someone drew p*rn art based on KKHTA. It got noticed on Reddit. However, after some time, the author deleted the art. All that remains is a part of the art itself, its saved page on the Wayback Machine, which only shows a white background, and another version of the full art. Here are the links: Reddit post - https://www.reddit.com/r/Touhou_NSFW/comments/o37qx5/kkhta_sanae/ Original link to the page with the art - https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/81905628 Saved page - https://web.archive.org/web/20210619040807/https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/81905628 Another version of the full art - https://rule***34.us/index.php?r=posts/view&id=4766899 Don't ask me how I found this... Looks like those videos are fake, because I have found no mentions of Touhou on Nicktoons on sites from 2010 (the claimed year of publication) to 2014. But I added it anyway. 2 hours ago, Denist said: 2: KKHTA P*rn... Never thought about adding such stuff, I know there is a lot of lost media like this. Pinky Cat Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Updated my original post with links to scans of the NEW HORI-ZUN books. Also, I have just discovered the existence of NEW HORI-ZUN 9. According to KirbyM's C77 post, this book was a preview version of NEW HORI-ZUN 1 with the addition of scribbled on notes and pictures by Marisa. This book was given out for free at C77 for those who brought NEW HORI-ZUN 1. It also appears that the C77 distribution was the only distribution for this book which seems valid as a bonus for those brought NEW HORI-ZUN 1. This also means that this NEW HORI-ZUN book can be considered "lost media" in the purest sense since there were no reprints for this book. There are some online secondhand listings for the book, but it appears they are all out of stock. Good luck to anyone who can track this book down. KirbyM's C77 Post: https://walfas.org/?p=982 1

Pinky Cat Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 Apparently, I am on a roll with my research as I have just accidently found all of Distant Union works in one fell swoop. This is the link: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/ As for how I came across this link... I started by putting random words into Google like site:tumblr.com "touhou" pdf. I noticed the askudonge tumblr account and clicked on the link since its Google description said "But it's now a free pdf!". It turns out this is a pdf of Raiders of the Lost Ask Box, and I was about to click off of the pdf since that fan book was already uploaded on Lina's Art Gallery. But then I saw the url: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/raiders.pdf I asked myself: How could doublepuma.com still exist? I thought that website was unavailable? Of course, I now know that I was confusing doublepuma.com with doublepuma.bigcartel.com. But I didn't fix my mistake there as I soon saw that the url looked like a web directory, so I decided to up in the directory by removing the pdf part from the url. Spoiler I certainly did not expect to find the homepage for Distant Union or that every single work of Distant Union could be downloaded as a pdf straight from this website. Fun Fact! Did you know that my visit was the first Internet Archive crawl into the page? I would know since I run the Internet Archive extension to save pages that don't have an archive for this exact reason. This led me to believe that no one from Distant Union ever actually posted the link, since the front page for doublepuma.com just leads links of Lina Ciari's works, that haven't been updated since 2020. No one would naturally find doublepuma.com/doujin without someone linking them naturally to this part of the website. So I did another google search for "doublepuma.com" to check on how people were posting links to this website. Did you know that that Plus on Block, another Touhou work by Lina Ciari, was featured on the 26th broadcast of Touhou Station? Found that one because it was submitted with the link: https://doublepuma.com/doujin/pobdigital.pdf Also, a moral of this search is to always use a Nitter instance as a part of the internet research process. It turns out that Lina Ciari already posted a pdf link to The Gensokyo Menagerie Vol. 1 on their Twitter account this entire time. It was the only Distant Union doujinshi that got posted publicly so this search was not a total waste, but it is a reminder to always look into Twitter as people post on that social platform far more than any where else. 2

Goodness me, how I wished to have Nitter become active again when I decided to look into the development of Kubinashi Recollection. But anyway, I been looking at your Lost Media list @vanyk, and I think some formatting changes is needed. Rediscovered lost media can be separated to its own category. If one of the goals of this thread is to find lost media, then it should be easy to look at the Lost Media list and figure out which lost media needs research. My other concern is the inclusion of 日陰サバイバン (Phoenix Wright x Touhou game) or as HakanaiBlue's English translation calls it, Shady Trial. I can't see how this work be considered lost media since it can be easily be found on DLsite, which is also the main method HakanaiBlue recommends to buy the game. Simply put, I don't see how this media could be considered lost at any point in time. 1
