Touhou Crossovers & Cameos

you know with how long touhou has been around, it's made me wonder like any other long running series that

seeing a character from this series appear in another work is still pretty weird at times.

so i thought i make this thread of all the weird crossovers and cameos that touhou has appeared in that i've seen, whether it be written works, youtubers, animations, anime and everything in between, if you want feel free to add your own suggestions to it i want to see some weird stuff.

to start would be the very first instances of seeing a touhou character ever would be......yugioh of all thing and a ecchi manga about horny monster girls wanting some D but let me explain both sides and let you figure things out.

see with the yugioh one, we have a yugituber named.....well Rata otherwise known as rank10ygo named after rank10 trains which are just trains that run people over or something in a childrens card game, that's insane.....why didn't digimon think of that. anyway jokes aside the specific video has him talk about the signer dragons from the anime "yugioh 5d's" or more specifically when he starts talking about a card called black rose dragon

BlackRoseDragon-OW.webp.aadfbbce918b5aee51ce91c3552a1497.webp

now here is where he talks about how when the card is summoned it nukes the field, leading to him comparing black rose......to at the time someone i did not know at the time but i would find out is a character by the name patchouli knowledge (it's also revealed he has the RARE HONG MEILING FUMO) . as for the monster girls, i already mentioned this in another thread (touhou fanservice) where i brought up these two picturesFFbFnOJVcAgEC5w.png.f416e67f9c45aee6a276ab55f935f629.png

k8israeyyde51.jpg.059d756d66fe6250b73483f98c1f5a10.jpg

in the manga "Monsutā Musume no Iru Nichijō" otherwise known as "daily life with monster girls" we see various cosplayers dress up as touhou charcater, again as with the yugioh reference i didn't know who these were so i left it alone, although this shoutout got quickly overshadowed by the metal gear reference later in the chapter......well unless your into a harpy wearing a slime to look like okuu getting molested by said slime. eventually i found out about the franchise and over time got myself to fall in love with the characters like meiling, suika, junko and others, the world and i'm even trying to play the games inbetween my job and my youtube channel hobby, but that's the basic jist let's get down to some more examples i've seen over time

Cirno News Network talks about bad apple is most likely the most well known but i might as well leave it here for completion sakes

another more hilarious example of touhou showing up on the news is when......well just look at the pictureT29kUZt.thumb.jpg.7a57f59003565a4cb6e15281a123b0da.jpg

never change suika.

in the world of crossovers, currently the biggest ones is putting the remilia and yukari/satori in pokemon due to newest games being called pokemon scarlet and violetd3c.jpg.97f1fc0648fd0750b1031d55ee3e87f8.jpg

or even deeper  a full on pokemon romhack where all the pokemon are replaced by touhou characters. maybe your a fan of dark souls and want to see something like that, well peter aix has that for you with his touhou souls videos where Hakurei Reimu fights ornstein and smough......but they are actually clownpiece and junko, or have her team up with remilia to fight the flandre watchers or........yuyuko using a swordfish as a weapon of mass destruction against a giant youmu (no i'm not kidding)

so now i turn to you, the people of moriyashrine, what are some of the wackest, weirdest and insane times you seen touhou show up in any other media or a fun crossover you really liked, hope you get your responses

Dunno if these fit the crossover as being defined here, but I was looking to see if there's a Touhou version of spy vs spy being done before, and behold, it has!

Though instead of Touhous appearing in that universe, it's the spies are replaced by Touhou characters, but I suppose that's kinda the case with Touhoumon, so I suppose that counts.

And I've also been working on a Touhou/Twilight Zone "crossover" series recently which primarily is about Touhous in Twilight Zone situations, although if you're familiar with the latter, you'll probably recognize more than them just being involved in dark situations:

I've actually had in mind myself to do more crossovers, such as Touhou x Addams Family, but I think I should probably not try to get my hands full when I've only just started Gensokyo Zone and barely have any views on that one...

There was also a Chang'e and Kaguya crossover picture I drew over a decade ago (I think Chang'e did end up being in Touhou, however) and it was pretty fun to do so, as well as the many other touhou crossovers I drew back then that have been lost to time...

Twilight zone, that is a name I have not heard in a very long time, cool though. Wonder if your going to give akyuu glasses just so you can pull off the last man on earth episode.

I just remembered the fact that of all things call of duty of all things referenced touhou

I love the Twilight Zone! My first ep of Gensokyo Zone sorta referenced that episode towards the end, even though it primarily isn't based on that episode, and I've been trying to avoid duplicate episode references. I try not to change Touhou's characters much so that the crossover can work well without much modifications, although I've thought that perhaps doing a straight Touhou adaptation without other changes might not be such a good idea, so I've always tried to do something slightly unique.

We can't forget the fact that Toby Fox is a fan of Touhou, meaning Undertale will be filled with Touhou reference! I've researched about it for a while.

Starting of with Music: I've caught on a few numbers of music while watching playthroughs of Undertale.

Megalovania: Sans's Theme awfully sounds a lot like Mima's Theme: Complete Darkness from Touhou 2.

Flowery Theme: Your Best Nightmare's 2:56 to 3:00 is similar to Koshi's Theme: Hartmann's Youkai Girl from Touhou 11

While 3:13 to 3:17 is the start of bad apple from Touhou 4: stage 3 theme.

I'm definitely sure that Undyne The Undying Theme contains Zunpets.

Undertale Ost: 098 - Battle Against a True Hero - YouTube , Starting from 1:55

I'm 607682101_Screenshot(36).thumb.png.8a5adb4c40dcad39ede6120ce6dd1330.pngtruly sure that 80% of Aserial attacks are Marisa inspired. The Stars, the lasers, the double spark.

Asriel Dreemurr - All Attacks - YouTube , reference for attacks.

That seems like Magic Space "Asteroid Belt" From IN.

Looks like a "Master Spark" inspired attack to me.

Ok, this one seems familiar, that's because I died to Utosho

a lot: "Subterranean Sun".

Doesn't this remind you of Benben's Music Sign "Double Score"

from DDC?

Not sure about this one but looks like something Marisa would

use?

In the Ps4 version, there's a dog shrine which resembles the Hakurei Shrine.

Small thing I noticed is that Aserial will call out the name of the attack like "Aserial is readying Chaos Buster" something along the lines of that. Like the Spell Card system we have in Touhou. She is the only character that does that in the game.

Papyrus is a resemblance of the ice fairy: lives in the snow biome, not too smart and fan favourite.

Asgore spear looks like Remilia's red arrow thing. (no offense) The Tsundere Plane wears a very recognizable hat of a Gensokyo sage. Yakumo Yukari. (Apologies for no photos, I'm running out of time, I've got to attend a class)

That's all I can think off. Pardon me, if I get anything wrong. I haven't study Undertale in a long time. Well sometimes, Touhou too.

Frisk seen as the PS4 exclusive "dog shrine". It looks like the

Hakurei Shrine.

Man trying to write this post was a pain, but I'm gonna try to make this to make this as consistent as possible without making it an absolute clusterfuck, originally I was going to include various YTPMV's/Nico Nico douga videos but since that was pretty time consuming I've decided not to include them just to trim the fat for this post, so I'll be focusing on parodies instead. Might sneak in something here though.

So let's start with crossover parodies, starting with this one:

While making this post I decide to take the time to watch this and HO BOY was it a fun trip, the amount of parodies in this is amusing, I learned about it when I discovered a Touhou parody of Metal Gear, specifically the final boss in Metal Gear Solid 4 (which I will not spoil) and I was... perplexed to say the least. Still go check this out if you haven't already, it's worth your time.

Much to my surprise I've also discovered a Touhou Walfas parody of John Carpenter's: The Thing which in all honesty I like quite a bit (since after all I am a fan of John Carpenter's works).

Right here:

I want to bring up one of my personal favorite games ever: Live-A-Live.

When I found out that Live-A-Live had a crossover with Touhou I didn't know what to make of it at first but since I'm starting to get acquainted with Touhou I still think I want to play it sometime this year, it looks pretty interesting so I'll give it shoot whenever I can since I absolutely love the original game. Not much else I can say about it, thought it would be worth mentioning.

There's also a ScarletFace Scarface parody:

There's an MMD that pokes fun at The Ultimate Weapon cutscene from the secret theater from Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence right here:

Then there's Misuki Yuuya's art, which in all honesty: IS Fucking incredible.

They make Touhou Parodies of various things, such as: Fist of the North Star, Metal Gear, Action Movies, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and so on.

If you love stupid, over the top shit with buff men like me then you'll love their works.

Artist: https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/4971/artworks

Last thing I want to bring up is this:

I think it's better if you watch this for yourself instead of me explaining it.

I could go on and talk about other things like the GTA: San Andreas Touhou mod or Mazeran's Dark yet brilliant art of Touhou characters in the style of Persona/SMT (which I'm a HUGE fan of) and some other MMD's (Spotty Len and Haroonneet mostly) but then this post will drag on longer then I would like it.

Hope this was entertaining yet informative enough for you to read.

It's been a while, but I have a few more interesting ones:

1) The Bread Boys had a surprising amount of Touhou cameos in their recent videos, one of which being an interaction between their official merch plush toy and a Yuyuko Fumo

2) The other one I would like to talk is about a musician I got used to as he was doing completely different stuff until recently, Please excuse my lack of professionalism, but did Stringstorm (famous as a creator of Warhammer 40K themed songs) just...make a Touhou original song? holy shit

This one came completely out of nowhere today, and looks way too good to be real. Am I surely not dreaming?
